Chapter 366: Chapter 366
Si Yan looked disdainfully at Ming Ji’s abs and chest muscles before shifting her gaze away.
Having been played by Si Yan in such a way, Ming Ji had become cautious.
He was suspending Si Yan by her arms, so if Si Yan continued to feel like vomiting, she could only vomit on herself. There was absolutely no way she would vomit on him.
Dangling in midair, Si Yan said speechlessly, "Do you have to be so petty? I’m feeling terrible!"
"Keep wriggling, and I’ll let go."
Si Yan fell silent. She caved immediately.
She couldn’t fly, and if Ming Ji let go, she was certain to meet her demise.
After flying past a forest, it was unclear whether Ming Ji had become more stable in his flight or Si Yan had adapted. In any case, after Si Yan stopped vomiting, Ming Ji finally shifted her into a position that was somewhat more comfortable.
After passing through a cool maritime region, Ming Ji even took her to an extremely cold snow mountain. The climate of the snow mountain was harsh, and the freezing wind and snow were bone-chilling, causing Si Yan to shiver uncontrollably.
"So useless," Ming Ji said with a cold snort, clutching Si Yan a bit tighter in disdain, allowing her face to press directly against his chest to block the wind. He gloated, "If you hadn’t vomited on me, I could have given you a piece of clothing to shield your face. Now, I don’t even have a shirt myself, so you’d better find your own way to stay warm."
Si Yan was quite stingy. She lowered her head and glanced at his beastskin skirt. "Isn’t there still fabric here?"
Ming Ji instantly became angry. "Talk back again, and I’ll drop you!"
Si Yan cowered once more. "No, there’s no need, it’s fine as it is right now."
Finally making it over the snow mountain, Ming Ji started to fly lower and then landed in a small tribe at the base of the mountain. After such a long flight, Si Yan’s legs were weak.
Ming Ji dragged her straight into a cave.
"Where are we?" As soon as Si Yan entered the cave, her head was covered by a thick layer of beastskin.
She arranged the beastskin properly, wrapping herself up, then saw that Ming Ji had laid several thick layers of beastskin on a simple wooden bed ahead.
Ming Ji started to scare her.
"This is the Polar Lands. You saw it on your way down; this is a tribe.
"The Beastmen of this tribe survive in these extreme conditions, and to stay alive, they are very fierce. Si Yan, don’t say I didn’t warn you. Don’t mess with the Beastmen here; they get desperate enough to resort to cannibalism when starving."
Si Yan was speechless. A gust of cold wind blew in.
Ming Ji walked to the entrance of the cave and let down the thick beastskin curtain. He took a thick white fur coat, casually picked up a steel knife beside him, and said, "Wait here for me. I’m going out to hunt."
He had barely stepped out when he turned back. "If you want to know the truth, you’d better stay right here and wait for my return. Of course, if you’re brave enough to wander out alone..." Ming Ji revealed a sly smirk. "Perhaps your scrawniness might just end up skewered."
Si Yan was left utterly speechless.
When Ming Ji left, Si Yan immediately pulled a face at him. The wind up high was colder than on the ground, and she had indeed become terribly cold while airborne. After taking off her beastskin shoes, she quickly climbed into bed and burrowed into the beastskins, warming herself up within.
After taking a few deep breaths, she began to try using the mate contract to communicate with A’ye. She tried several times, nearly depleting her spiritual energy, but was unable to establish any contact.
Si Yan, feeling both cold and exhausted, slipped under the covers and fell asleep.
After Ming Ji left, he indelicately urinated near the entrance of the cave. By scent-marking, he informed the Beastmen that he, the infamous Ming Ji, had returned, daring them to even think of encroaching on his cave while he was out hunting.
Having taken care of that, Ming Ji then headed up the snow mountain. He dug up a ginseng plant he encountered and, after hunting a large Snow Mountain Deer, carried its carcass back. He had tried the deer meat here before, and it tasted good. That little rascal in the cave would probably love it.
He processed the deer meat with snow water and then carried it back to the cave. The Beastmen here were fierce, and although they wouldn’t easily approach his cave out of fear of him, they would still steal if the prey was left at the entrance. So, after freezing the meat in the snow, Ming Ji placed it in a hole he had previously dug beside the cave. He put the portion of meat he wasn’t going to eat immediately inside, then covered it with grass and packed it with snow.
Back in the cave, having another person made it less lonely, warm, and quiet. He set the meat he planned to eat to the side and walked over to the bed to see Si Yan sleeping soundly and obediently. He habitually touched her forehead—it was not hot. Fortunately, she hadn’t fallen ill on the journey.
Then he took another look at her sleeping face. His own twisted with disdain. "So ugly. No wonder you can’t get by in this world where males outnumber females ten to one. With such excellent conditions, you only managed to take one mate. Useless."
Si Yan was woken up by hunger. She hadn’t slept well. She woke up with her hair sticking up wildly from static electricity and a grumpy expression.
It took a moment for her to react upon opening her eyes, and then she remembered that she was not in Myriad Beasts City.
Seeing no one in the cave, she wrapped herself in beastskin, donned beastskin boots, lifted the hide curtain, and stepped out of the cave.
The snow-covered mountain was a bright white, dazzlingly so. Si Yan shielded her eyes from the glare of the snow with her hand and saw a wooden shelter not too far away. She immediately spotted the man roasting meat there.
Seeing her come out, Ming Ji was not surprised at all. "Judging by how hungry you are, it’s about time you woke up. The snow water over there has been boiled. Have some first, then come over for some meat."
Si Yan sat down opposite the man. After accepting the meat he handed her, she asked, "Why did you bring me here?"
The man raised his hand nonchalantly. "Eat until you’re full first."
Si Yan pressed, "What is your relationship with the God of Night, Ming Jiu?"
The man raised an eyebrow lazily, an unchallengeable tone in his voice. "Let’s talk after you’re full."
Si Yan had no choice but to gnaw angrily on the meat, glancing at Ming Ji as she ate. It was as if she were biting into Ming Ji’s own flesh; a satisfying sense of revenge. However, upon chewing, she found it was actually quite delicious.
The little foodie immediately forgot about revenge, devouring the large piece of meat in a few bites, leaving her belly satisfyingly full.
After finishing the meat, Si Yan continued to glare at Ming Ji.
Ming Ji poked at the firewood. "Now you can ask me questions."
Si Yan glared at him, gritting her teeth as she asked, "Ming Ji, your relationship with the God of Night Ming Jiu, A’ye, Si Jie—what is it?"
Ming Ji lifted his eyes to look at her. "Jumping straight to such a core question."
Si Yan kept glaring at him.
Ming Ji pondered how to respond. "A’ye, that fox Beastman at your side, is indeed no ordinary Beastman. Hmm... Let me think about how to explain it. A’ye and I are two personalities of the God of Night, Ming Jiu." Thᴇ link to the origɪn of this information rᴇsts ɪn NoveI-Fire.ɴet
This was exactly what she had guessed before!
"Is A’ye truly the God of Night? Is he inside you now? Are you the secondary personality? Have you taken over his body?"
Ming Ji simply knocked her with a piece of wood. "What primary and secondary personalities? There’s no such hierarchy, okay? Besides, if we had to distinguish, I’d be the primary one. With Ming Jiu’s pathetic attitude, how could he be the primary personality? He’s not inside me."
The more Si Yan listened, the more confused she grew. "So where is he?"
"Didn’t you ask him to hatch eggs before you went away to compete? If nothing went wrong, he’s probably still hatching eggs. That Ming Jiu, putting on that act of hidden patience in front of you... I really can’t stand him."
Si Yan was completely bewildered. "What???" Is he insulting himself?
"Our situation is special. Our two personalities... because of some really boring reasons, have already separated into two independent entities. So now our situation is kind of like that of twin brothers."
"We are both very complete entities. I was more generous and let him have the name Ming Jiu. Since nine is the extreme number, I named myself Ming Ji."
Si Yan watched him poke the firewood in silence, feeling a desire to poke it as well.
But then she heard Ming Ji continue, "You don’t need to wonder which of us is the good one and which is the bad. Both of us are bad people. And we won’t accept being seen in a better light."
