Chapter 356: Chapter 356
The White Tiger Beastman respectfully said, "Priest Si Yan, are you ready to draw lots?"
Si Yan smiled meaningfully and modestly replied, "Let the Priest from the Golden Dragon Clan draw first."
A smile immediately spread across Jin Yao’s face.
Anger flashed across the faces of the Beastmen who witnessed this.
"Just as I thought! I knew Jin Yao was up to no good. She was chatting with Priest Si Yan all this time just so she could draw first."
"Her previous results were so bad, how dare she try to cut in front of Priest Si Yan?"
"Don’t you know? She’s made a habit of snatching things from Priest Si Yan."
The Beastmen’s comments grew increasingly harsh.
Han Shuang’s and Jin Hong’s faces darkened.
Xue Lin whispered to Han Shuang and Jin Hong, "Actually, the Grey Parrot Sage has conducted many experiments proving that the probability of drawing any particular lot is the same, regardless of who draws first. Jin Yao really didn’t need to fight Si Yan for the chance to draw first."
Jin Hong said, "Jin Yao isn’t the type to fight over things with her own sister. There must be some misunderstanding."
Xue Lin let out a soft chuckle and turned his head away.
Listening to the Beastmen’s discussion, Si Yan smiled at Jin Yao. "Now, only the sixth and eighth lots remain. Whether you draw sixth or eighth, the probability is one in two."
Jin Yao said impatiently, "What’s ’one in two’? Don’t think you’re so clever just because you say things I don’t understand. I just want to draw first!"
The once-proud Dragon Princess thoroughly exposed her ignorance today.
Si Yan didn’t mind and made a gesture of invitation.
Si Yan stepped back. The White Tiger Beastman’s attitude toward Jin Yao was noticeably less courteous than it had been toward Si Yan.
"Go ahead and draw," he said indifferently. His tone clearly conveyed his impatience, as if to say, Just hurry up and draw. I really don’t want to serve you any longer.
Although Jin Yao had managed to draw first, for some reason, she felt particularly unhappy. This was especially true when she saw Si Yan step back, seemingly unconcerned.
Have I fallen for Si Yan’s trap again? Jin Yao wondered. Has she taken advantage of me?
Whatever, she decided.
Jin Yao carelessly picked a branch from the lottery bucket in front of her.
The White Tiger Beastman counted and announced, "The Golden Dragon Clan will ascend the sacrificial altar sixth!"
As the White Tiger Beastman finished speaking, the crowd erupted in laughter.
"HAHAHA! Look at that female! She snatched someone else’s turn to draw, and she only got sixth place!"
"She really shot herself in the foot."
"I’m dying of laughter! This is hilarious!"
Jin Yao lowered her head slightly, the Beastmen’s mockery making her uncomfortable. ʀᴇᴀᴅ ʟᴀᴛᴇsᴛ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀᴛ noveⅼfire.net
I must make these Beastmen who are laughing at me today pay a price! she thought darkly.
The White Tiger Beastman continued, "Priest Si Yan of the Delusional Domain will ascend the sacrificial altar eighth! The final position!"
The crowd immediately grew so fervent it felt like the venue was about to be overturned, roaring, "Priest Si Yan!! Priest Si Yan!! Priest Si Yan!!!"
The Beastmen cheered wildly, as if it were a festival.
On the nearby stands, a smile touched Xue Lin’s lips. Myriad Beasts City would go first, the High Priest seventh, and Si Yan eighth. This order isn’t bad, he thought.
Han Shuang’s and Jin Hong’s expressions, however, were quite sour. If Si Yan had drawn eighth and Jin Yao sixth on their own, it might have been somewhat acceptable. But Jin Yao had fought for the chance to draw first, only to end up with sixth. This was a real loss of face for the Golden Dragon Tribe.
The drawing order was now set.
The first five to go would be Myriad Beasts City, Water City, Desolate City, White Tiger City, and the Merfolk Clan. The last three, in order, were the Golden Dragon Tribe, White Eagle City, and the Delusional Domain.
Si Yan felt many eyes on her. She looked toward a less crowded area of Beastmen and saw Xue Lin smiling at her. Even Bao Lin and her brothers gave her casual smiles.
Han Shuang and Jin Hong, however, glared at Si Yan with resentment in their eyes.
Si Yan ignored these two from the Golden Dragon Clan and then turned her attention to Jin Tong.
That simple-minded Jin Tong enthusiastically waved his hands, excitedly announcing to everyone, "Look, that’s my sister, Priest Si Yan! Priest Si Yan is my sister!!"
Jin Yang’s and the others’ faces grew darker and darker. Ever since Si Yan had called Jin Tong ’brother,’ the fifth brother, Jin Tong, had been on cloud nine. He bragged about it daily, wishing the entire world knew he had a sister.
It was too much! It made them burn with jealousy!
The four cubs, each perched atop an uncle’s head, waved excitedly at Si Yan.
"Mommy!!" "Go, Mommy, go!!!"
Then there was Bi Yao. His older cousins were biased; none were willing to carry him, and he was too short to see. Out of respect for the Beast God, flying was absolutely forbidden at the Priest Competition venue. Unable to fly, he could only sulk. Later, She Chuan had simply picked him up and placed him atop his own head.
Bi Yao, momentarily dazed, broke into a small, pleased smile.
Si Yan also waved back at the cubs.
Si Yan turned to look around nearby. The Crocodile Beastmen from Water City, caught peeking by her, immediately averted their gazes shyly.
A young Crocodile Beastman mustered his courage, stepped forward, and politely asked, "Priest Si Yan, would you mate with me?"
His cheeks flushed crimson as he felt several dagger-like stares fixed on him.
WHOOSH! A scale flew past, leaving a thin, bloody line across his blushing cheek.
His excitement instantly turned to fright!
Si Yan felt awkward and helpless. These Beastmen are too direct, she thought. In her previous world, a man proposing marriage to a beautiful woman upon their first meeting would likely be considered insane.
"I’m sorry," she said, rejecting him in the most straightforward way possible. "You’re an excellent Beastman, and many females will like you. But I can’t be one of them."
The young Crocodile Beastman looked instantly disappointed and retreated sheepishly.
"You’ve really got guts," his companion said, a mix of envy and jealousy in his voice. "But I’m so jealous! You actually proposed to Priest Si Yan!"
"Priest Si Yan is so beautiful. I’d willingly be one of her Beast Husbands if I could. Too bad I don’t have the nerve..."
It wasn’t just Water City; the desert Beastmen from Desolate City were also sneaking glances at Si Yan. They quickly averted their gazes, a bashful flush appearing on their otherwise fierce cheeks.
"But this is honestly the first time I’ve seen Priest Si Yan up close. She’s so beautiful!"
"I’ve never seen such a stunning female. Her skin looks so tender, like you could squeeze water from it."
"I thought she was gorgeous even when she was pregnant. Now that her cubs are born, I think she’s even more beautiful!"
The Priests from White Tiger City, the Merfolk Clan, and Myriad Beasts City also greeted Si Yan one by one.
The High Priest, Bai Feng, looked proud and aloof. His gaze swept past Si Yan, lingering for a moment on the Priest’s scepter at her waist. A faint smile touched his lips before he looked away.
The White Tiger Beastman announced, "Next, the Priest Competition begins! Let us invite the Fire Ape Priest from Myriad Beasts City and the other two Priests to the sacrificial altar!"
Si Yan moved to a position closest to the sacrificial altar and looked up. This spot is great, she thought. It’s convenient for watching how the other Priests summon the Beast God.
The gecko on Si Yan’s head was sunbathing, its belly exposed. "This Fire Ape is actually not too bad among ordinary Priests," it commented.
