Chapter 81: Chapter 81
Kaya’s POV
I shot up gasping for air, my head a buzzing mess and my heart thumping fast like it has just run a marathon. I tried to adjust my breathing, blinking fast as the blurry world around me suddenly taking up a better shape.
Light Blue walls coming to vision, as my headache cleared slowly. I blinked again as if in a haze, eyes trailing around the room, it was very large which made me think it was definitely not my room.
My eyes came into contact with a shadow by the window, the suns raise blocking his face from view.
"Azian?" I whispered loudly my eyes squinting to see the form.
It moved only slightly, its voice low, "A-are you okay?" He asked, he seemed concerned and worried but I couldn't tell because I couldn't really see his face that was hidden in the shadows.
"Yes, I'm fine" I replied wondering what he meant.
He sighed deeply, a small whimper escaping from somewhere, his voice a blubbery mess, "Y-you've been asleep for 2 days, Kaya"
My eyes widened at this information glancing at the large bed I was currently in, it's velvet covers rolled up to my waist, a single lamp by my bed stand.
I couldn't remember anything as of how I got here, but strangely I didn't even care, my gaze turned to the worried defeated position of the boy hidden in the darkness, he seemed to be scared, scared that I was not okay.
I could read this all, by his stature, by the trip in his voice, the space he had left between us so I could barely see him, which sent a pang of pain deep within me, I pulled on my best smile, "I'm okay" I replied softly into the dark, "c-can I see you Azian?" I requested my voice shallow, it was then I realized it was cold in this room, though the sun’s rays was budding through.
He seemed hesitant for a few seconds before he took a step out of the shadows. The wind was knocked right out of me, it felt like I had forgotten to breathe in that instant, as his face came to view, behind him a shimmer from the ray that hit his two large golden wings causing me to squint, covering my hand over my eyes for a second. He stood their shirtless with a pair of pants.
"Sorry, I can't pull them back in" he whispered as his wings fluttered, ramming against the window pain., he winced a little, but stood in place, rolling his shoulders back, but his gaze remained glued to the bed, not at me.
My fingers were shaking slowly, as I pulled them away from my face, he didn't seem to want to look at me, his fists were gripped in a tight hold, and his angelic face seemed to be holding something back.
I pulled the velvet blanket off me and he gasped suddenly his eyes rising a little higher as if about to protest I stay in bed, but he still didn't meet my eyes. He kept his gaze just beneath my chin.
I wondered why he was babying me, I could walk quite well, and that I knew. With a heave I pushed myself to the side of the bed. If he didn't want to come to me, I might as well go to him.
I put one foot over the side of the bed, a sudden wave of drowsiness seemed to be on edge but I pushed past it sliding my other leg over. With one grunt I stood to me feet proudly, wiggling my toes in the soft rug beneath me before taking four over confident steps towards him.
I wasn't ready for such a movement, it felt like my knees crumbled as they gave out beneath me causing me to yelp as I tumbled down.
The only thing I heard was the sudden sound of a hurricane, and a series bangs my eyes watching Azian tear across the room, his large wings destroying everything in its path, then suddenly feeling his hands gripping tightly around my waist holding me up.
I blinked twice as I stared into Azians gold eyes a bare inch away from the ground, as he held me up, hands wrapped around my waist his breathing deep and ragged.
I looked past them to the wrecked room behind him, failing to understand how he had gotten from the other side of the room to here in under a second.
The culprit wings fluttered behind him, his left wing suddenly twitching slamming itself into the mirror that hung at the side of the wall, successfully shattering it.
Azian shut his eyes momentarily shaking head, before looking back at me, "sorry,” he said in a low whisper, "I really can't control them."
My breathing was heavy as we held our gaze, everything seemed to fade into nothing, like nothing else mattered, he lifted me up gently, carrying me up like a baby, as he took steady steps back to bed, our gazes still locked to each other. His was soft and caring, yet behind it there was some sort of regret searing like rain clouds.
He placed me back into bed, rolling the blanket sheet back over me, I tugged his arm, before he could pull away, his sad eyes seemed to understand what I wanted, sitting by the edge of the bed.
His large wings, sprawled behind him, but one misbehaved fluttering up, its sharp edge scraping the ceiling before collapsing next to it's other.
Azian clenched his jaw as I chuckled lowly, "you really can't control them can you?" I asked.
A smile grazed his lips, slowly, "the first time it was easy, but for the past two days, I just lost control over them," he replied.
I moved toward him, slowly his eyes widening when I was merely a breath away, "can I?" I asked.
His eyebrows hunched in confusion, before realizing what I was meaning glancing at his wings before nodding, I reached out to touch them, "be careful their sharp" he warned as they fluttered up, further damaging the ceiling.
"it’s okay" I replied softly placing my other hand over his. He relaxed his wings flapping one more time before they relaxed, coming up behind him like a bat.
I slowly reached out to touch them, in complete awe of them. They were soft, very soft completely throwing me off, as golden feathers appeared, shimmering underneath my touch.
The way they sliced through everything, one would think they were metal or some sort of golden material, my fingers trailed one feather and it shivered underneath my touch, his wing unfolding itself as it stretched beautifully shimmering under the suns golden rays.
"They've never done that" Azian whispered causing me to look at him, his hot breath fanning my shoulder.
"Never done what?" I asked curiously my fingers still feeling its golden feathers. He bit his lip not saying instead he reached his left arm across to his right wing, he barely touched it when they suddenly jerked as I pulled my hand back, and watching as its golden feathers disappeared replacing themselves with what seemed like a plain sheet of golden metal.
My eyebrows furrowed when I saw this looking at Azian in confusion catching him clenching his jaw in pain as his wings changed, I breathed out nervously as he looked at me, covering the pain with a small smile.
I reached out to touch his wings, feeling the hard golden scales that plated over them, so very sharp a sudden movement might slice my hand off. My eyes traveled to the conjunction where a horn was sticking out spotting the point where his wings had cut themselves out of his bareback. The skin around it was a bright red and looked quite swollen and truthfully very painful.
"I can't put them back in" he replied seeming to have read my thoughts.
"But they can retract?" I asked concerned. He nodded, "they did at first, but they haven't since...they haven't in a while" he finally said.
I threw my arms around him hugging him, he looked like he needed a hug, not me I swear, I didn't hug him because I felt like it, and his pain seemed to be echoing inside me, nope..it wasn't that. He hugged me back tightly wrapping his hands around me, pulling me into his lap, his wings seemed to behave at the moment as I blinked the tears away.
"Kaya" Azian dragged, his large hands rubbing my back. This was for him, not for me.
I stared at the bluish reddish skin at his back, glancing at his wings, "just go back in" I whispered, can't you see you're hurting him?
I closed my eyes, stopping a tear, before I felt Azian grunt, slowly, gently shifting me his arms, causing me to open my eyes, widening them when I saw his wings jutting back through his body, his horn was first to decrease in size, as they slowly retracted, fluttering till they reached about the size of a birds before completely disappearing through his open slits, which proceeded to close up right before his eyes.
It was only then I realized Azian was holding on to me a little tightly, only relaxing when he finally healed himself in, sighing lowly as he buried his face into my hair in satisfaction, "thank you" he groaned.
Thank you? Had I done this?
It took a second before he pulled away stopping right in front of me, his face a hairs breath away from me, he looked a little sad, shy and guilty, "Are you angry with me?" He asked softly, he seemed to be holding his breath, he suddenly looked like he had done something as bad as stealing a cookie from the cookie jar not being smart enough to not get caught.
I chuckles softly wondering why I would be mad at him. What could he have possible have done? "What?" I asked
He looked at me with a sudden confusion which morphed into concern, "Kaya don't you remember?" He asked.
What was he talking about? "Remember wha-?" my sentence was cut short as it all came back to me in a second, my eyes widening as I pulled away from him, my hand to my throat, feeling it's way to the side of neck and shoulder, panicking as I remembered the pain from the burn that had skimmed through me like I had thrown into an erupting volcano after Azian had bit me.
Don't you know that Dragons don't share?
He bit me! This sudden realization was soon voiced out as I pulled back from him, " you bit me!" I yelled at him accusingly, my hand still at my throat, eyeing him horror, who does that?
"Kaya calm down" he eased reaching out for me but I swatted him away annoyed, "Don't touch me!" I snapped looking at him in shock.
I strangely couldn't feel any pain on my neck, and if felt smooth but a bite as painful as that had to have left a mark and a nasty one at that. The pain that had soared through me in that moment felt like he had taken a chunk out of me.
I pushed past him scurrying to the edge of the bed, only to get pulled back by the leg, "Kaya, you can't walk" Azian eased pulling me to him, wrapping his arm around me protectively, "Let me go" I grunted out, "I need to see what you did!"
"There isn't any-"
"I want to see!" I yelled back, regretting it immediately when I saw the hurt look in his eyes. He nodded softly, standing up, he bent to my level lifting me up, without another word, causing me to feel worse.
Why was I feeling bad? He deserved it. I assured myself, but it didn't work my spirits falling as he took me into the bathroom, seeing as the other mirror had been smashed through.
He put me down before the bathroom mirror and I turned practically to see the damage that was done, pushing my bushy hair to the side rapidly, as I took a small peak, my heart beating faster.
Nothing. There was completely nothing. No bite mark, no teeth marks, nothing but my normal skin. I pulled away checking the other side, you know just in case I forgot which shoulder it happened to be but still nothing. It bare.
I looked up to Azians reflection in the mirror his now blue eyes starting back at me, "B-but...H-How?" I asked. I knew for a fact that had not been a dream.
He started down at me slowly, " I want you to relax, Kaya" he whispered brushing my hair gently to the side, he looked up into the mirror his eyes locking with mine, "Please don't panic" he said his hands slowly resting on my bare arm.
As soon as I felt his touch, a warm gentle burn began and my eyes widened breath hitching, when I saw it suddenly appear. A golden dragon tattoo. Its ink was not black but shivered a bright gold, its head began right beneath my jaw running down the side of my neck and its tail swinging on my right shoulder in beautiful curve.
In truth, I had never seen a tattoo with so much detail, I could see its scales glimmering and shimmering on my skin, its large horns prodded on its neck. Maybe I would have reacted normally if it was just a very well done tattoo, but it wasn't.
It wasn't just a tattoo.
I was literally about to run when it suddenly moved its head, Azian holding me firmly when I flinched "shhhhhhh, relax" he eased rubbing my arm as the dragon stopped moving as if it was also shy.
After a few seconds of standing still it moved again, shaking itself like it had just woken up from a deep sleep of some sort, its tail flickered to the right, allowing me to feel it's every motion with its warm gentle burn under my skin. It shook it's large head, the skin at the back of his head flaring up like one of those lizards I had seen in science, it's wings flapping as it curled down to my shoulder, sniffing then lied down, closing its eyes and disappearing.
I gasped out suddenly realizing I had barely been breathing through that whole ordeal, "what was that Azian?" I asked slowly.
"It's our bond" he began softly, "or do you mean that it's a dragon?" He asked again a little confused obviously.
I turned to him sharply, over whelmed "what do you mean bond?!" I asked my voice rising by the minute.
He raised an eyebrow as if accepting some sort of challenge, a slight smirk on the corner of his lips "Bond Kaya, You like me don't you?" He asked.
I huffed out at the sudden question, before shaking my head, "Azian I don't understand this! None of it is making sense to me? Why did you bite me?"
He rubbed my shoulder, "I claimed you Kaya, you're mine and I had to make sure you weren't...mistaken, for anybody else’s" he replied softly
"Yours?" I echoed, my voice hitched as I remembered, "But isn't Khloe yours?" I asked my eyes refusing to reach his. I didn't want to hear it at all.
He gently pulled my chin up, starting deep within me, "No, No she isn't" he replied with honest eyes causing my heart to thump louder, my eyes meeting his, hope filling each inch of me, "it's a long story, but I was tricked, it was never her, " he brushed a strand of my hair away, "it was you Kaya, it always had been"
My heart skipped a beat at his words, a bashful smile appearing as I turned to stare at the floor, a feeling inside me flooding up, making me feel gleeful, butterflies turning in my stomach.
Suddenly I felt something drop within me, completely wiping the smile off my face as I shot up to look at Azian, “But Legions my mate,”
The words barely left me when his eyes hardened to gold, "You don't belong to him,” He snarled dangerous low, "Kaya you're mine and I'm not letting you near him" he said lowly.
"Dragons don't share" I whispered back remembering. As soon as I said it his eyes softened to a blue as if those words had calmed him.
"Is that what you are? A Dragon?" I asked starting up into his sky eyes, his arms around me stiffened, "yes" he replied his eyes skimming my face as if gauging my reaction.
I shook my head wondering what I had gotten myself into, I thought Lycans were a mess, but Dragons! "I didn't know that Dragons were-"
"Handsome?" He asked grinning, his white teeth which were definitely not as sharp as I thought they would be appearing.
I smacked his shoulder with a chuckle, "human,” I replied, "I always thought dragons were just well...”
"Big beasts that breathe fire?" He asked cocking an eyebrow.
"Well yes,” I replied nervously.
He chuckled, "you would be right, we are that. However like werewolves and Lycans we can also shift to humans," he replied.
My eyes widened at this news, "you can turn into a Dragon?" I echoed.
His eyes fell down cast, "yes, at least I think so"
His answer seemed off but I was so confused, "Dragons? So they aren't extinct or something, how many dragons exists as in like. Are you guys just stuck in your bodies human type form and is that why we think you're extinct, and here was I thinking you were some sort of Angel or winged person of some sort, but a Dragon? I guess the large scaled wings could have been a huge giveaway but I would have never guessed not in a million years, I-I don't think Ally would have either, oh my, A Dragon, that's just-" I babbled on before Azians laughs brought me back.
My cheeks heated up pulling away from him, "what? How did you expect me to react? I never thought in my eighteen years of life that I would meet a Dragon"
Azian just laughed a little more, stopping when he saw my embarrassment, "I'm sorry, I just never expected that,”
"Questions? You should have expected I would have some questions dropping something like that on me!"
He grinned, "That I did except, but not so much excitement" he replied lowly caging me between the sink and him, "to answer your questions, Dragons were thought to be extinct for some time, but we aren't anymore,” he saw my expression and chuckled, "it's a long story, believe me,”
I did believe him, but my thoughts wondered to something else, "So Dragons have mates too?" I asked
His smile dissolved as he looked at me, “some, not all of them,” he whispered back.
"So if I'm not Le-.." I clearer my throat, "His mate, what makes you think I'm yours?" I asked glancing at the floor, before quickly looking up, "that's if I am, that is" I added quickly, my heart beating like a riot against my chest.
He leaned in, his face ribbing against my hair, "I don't want to Lie to You Kaya, " he began, my eyes finding his, "there's a chance you might not be"
My heart fell at his words, my forehead leaning against his as I tried to not let it affect me as much as it did, "that's what they told me, " he continued my eyes shooting up to his, his hand trailing along my jaw, "and if you ask them, they would tell you the same"
He lifted my chin so he could stare into my soul.
"But I don't believe them, I feel you belong to me, and are above everything else, because in the end, you’re the last thing I think about every day, you're the one person that calms us, you're the one I need. I can't bear to do without. You. The girl that brings out the beast in me" he kissed my lips, then my jaw, causing my little dragon friend to momentarily shiver appearing in a second, then my forehead, before pressing his against mine again, "and you Kaya? Do you believe them?" He asked closing his eyes, my hands pressed against his chest.
I didn't have to think at all when I answered, "No, I don't believe them" I replied feeling his heart beat quicken underneath my hand. I closed my eyes feeling at peace, before they suddenly swung back open, "am I going to turn into a dragon now that you bit me!" I asked alarmed.
How would I explain that to Aunt Lily? Or worse Mom and Dad. I couldn't keep that from them!
I was taken out of my thought when Azian laughed, his eyes shining with humor causing me to smack him away.
This was serious! Turning into a beast! And Aunt Lily just hated them thanks to Legion, I would be sleeping outside! Scratch that! Where would I keep my Dragon self? Our backyard was too small! And eating? Meat?! Where will I find raw meat?!
"I can't be a dragon!" I screeched.
"Relax Kaya, you won't turn into a dragon" Azian replied in between chuckles, this caused me to turn back to his laughing self.
"Really?"
"That only happens with Vampires and even their mates are completely like them" he replied rubbing my arm soothingly,
"You're not lying are you?" I asked trying to be sure I wouldn't start growing scales in the middle of the night.
He shook his head brushing my hair to the side, he kissed my shoulder unexpectedly, our eyes meeting, "this is the closest you'll get from becoming one" he replied as my Dragon speared again, still in his sleepy mood on my shoulder, only turning his head to the side, his tail shifting to the left.
"He is cute,” I murmured as he disappeared again, suddenly wishing that maybe it wouldn't be so bad to have a dragon.
Azian nodded, "he is the symbol of our bond, your Dragon, Kaya,”
I hummed glancing at my bare shoulder, "what does he do?"
Azian Chuckled, “You’ll see, He will protect you to some extent, though he isn't as good as the real thing" he replied his eyes shimmering a deep gold
I nodded holding his gaze, one thing was bugging my mind at the back of my head, but I didn't want to ask it, afraid it would ruin the moment. I ended up blurting it out, "and Legion? What will happen to him? I mean he thinks I'm his m-"
"If he is alive, he'll try to take you from me, but I won't allow it,”
"What do you mean, if?" I asked my heart racing, I suddenly began to feel hot, really hot
I don't want to scare you Kaya, But Legion might be dead.
I started hyperventilating, "what did you do? What did you do to him?" I asked wide with wide eyes.
"Have read the stories of Dragons?" Azian began calmly, his fingers in my hair, “Big breathing fiery beasts that destroy towns and leave nothing, Mad dragons, those some even called Wicked, Greedy " he finished slowly.
My eyebrows furrowed, what had this got to do with Legion? What happened to him?
Azian sighed, "What if I told you there's another story they don't tell you, the cause of their rage? There is always something you never take from a dragon." He looked down at me," Legion tried to take you. So I put him down" he finished his eyes a golden flame.
My breath hitched and suddenly a fire, started burning deep within me, the pain equaled the same I felt when Azian Bit me, I screamed out in Pain as Azian eyes widened.
I heard him calling my name, but the last thing I saw was my reflection in the mirror, a bright Golden Dragon glowing Red from my shoulder. There was only one thought going through my mind before I passed out.
Why was our bond burning?
