Chapter 93: Chapter 93
After the four returned, they didn’t go back to the countryside anymore; they had lunch and took a temporary rest in a place arranged in town.
Since there were not many rescue personnel following them here, only about twenty people, most of the team went to clear the road to the countryside. Those staying in town squeezed into the homes of several town leaders.
Tian Xiang was arranged to stay at the secretary’s house.
The secretary’s wife heard that she injured her head and was very concerned, personally made her sweet water to drink, and urged her to lie down on the bed and not to walk around.
Tian Xiang’s head indeed felt a bit dizzy, so she lay down and slept until after four in the afternoon.
She got dressed and went out, seeing Meng Cheng’an sitting at the table whispering to the secretary’s wife.
No one knew what they were talking about, but Meng Cheng’an’s face was a bit red.
The secretary’s wife smiled at her and said, "You’re awake. Your boyfriend has been waiting here for a long time."
The word "boyfriend" made Tian Xiang blush as well.
The faces of the two young people were too thin; the secretary’s wife laughed heartily and found an excuse to leave, giving them some space.
Tian Xiang: "Didn’t you sleep?"
Meng Cheng’an: "I did sleep."
But couldn’t fall asleep; when I closed my eyes, all I could think about was her.
Tian Xiang looked at his face; the injured part began to bruise, and there was a dark spot at the corner of his mouth.
Meng Cheng’an turned his head away, "Don’t look."
He must look very unattractive now.
This guy was being a bit sensitive.
Tian Xiang: "Your face might not heal before going back to the city."
Meng Cheng’an: "How about you? Is your head still dizzy?"
Tian Xiang: "I feel much better. If I sleep well tonight, I should be fine."
After chatting for a while, they went out of the yard to the health clinic.
The few team members staying in town were eating together at the clinic’s cafeteria.
After two days of treatment, some lightly injured patients had been discharged, so it wasn’t too busy.
At night, the cafeteria cooked cabbage with pork and glass noodles, as some farmers’ pigs died and the meat was distributed here.
Meng Cheng’an didn’t eat meat and gave all the meat in his bowl to Tian Xiang.
Both were in a relationship now, so Tian Xiang didn’t hold back.
The health clinic didn’t have a designated dining area, so they all sat in the hallway lounge. Inevitably, Meng Cheng’an and Tian Xiang’s interactions were noticed.
Not bad, she found a boyfriend on this trip, not a loss.
Some were not so pleased, like Lu Feng and Tian Chuying.
After dinner, there wasn’t much to do at the clinic, so everyone dispersed for a break.
The next day, mid-morning, the clouds that lingered for over half a month finally cleared, and the sun came out.
Great, the snow on the roads can melt, and the disaster situation can be declared over.
Near noon, a dozen rescue personnel from Red Fifth Street returned to town, and the three team leaders discussed going back to the city. The supplies couldn’t be stranded here, so they’d leave them in town and have people from the other two towns pick them up later, ensuring mutual supervision.
Finally about to go back, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
After the small meeting, Tian Xiang raised her hand, calling the food factory leader and Li Huai over for her to report something.
Li Huai looked at Tian Xiang with confusion.
Tian Xiang called the two aside, "Let’s discuss this at the police station."
What issue would require going to the police station?
On edge, they called Lu Feng and Tian Chuying to the police station, where Tian Xiang revealed the matter. The two leaders were speechless and angry.
Especially the food factory lead, who angrily slapped the table.
Lu Weihua was from their factory; such an incident was an embarrassment to their food factory!
Tian Xiang: "I don’t plan to resolve this privately. Lu Weihua escaped temporarily, so for now, we’ll wait until we return to the city to report it."
The food factory leader looked at Tian Xiang, wanting to speak but hesitating.
Privately resolving it would be best, at least to protect the factory’s reputation, but given the determined attitude of this young girl, it seemed impossible.
So it would wait until they returned to the city.
They ate lunch in town, worked together to unload the supplies from the truck, and prepared to leave.
Opening up snow-covered roads and unloading supplies took time, but returning home wouldn’t be as complicated; departing at noon meant arriving by night.
The men sat in the back, and several girls sat in the front. They stopped in a small town midway, using the restroom before continuing forward.
Now returning, no one felt tired. Instead, spirits were high.
By dusk, the three leaders asked if they should rest and eat something; everyone said no, they’d eat once back.
The vehicle moved ahead, and after 10 PM, they finally returned to the city.
The three leaders had asked earlier where they’d be dropped off, to see what was convenient.
Most of the people this time were from Red Fifth Street, all heading in one direction, except Tian Xiang and Tian Chuying lived on Sanli Lane.
Perfect, the two could go together.
Seeing that both their surnames were Tian, Li Huai asked if they were relatives.
Both remained silent; no one responded despite his repeated questioning, so he stopped.
Soon, they arrived at the bridgehead.
Because the big truck couldn’t enter the small road there, it could only drop them off here.
Tian Xiang and Tian Chuying carried their belongings off the vehicle.
Although it was late at night, there was company, but they were both young girls, so Li Huai felt uneasy and was about to ask if anyone would escort them when Meng Cheng’an, carrying things, naturally got off and stood beside Tian Xiang.
Li Huai looked at the golden boy and jade girl couple and said nothing.
The vehicle started and continued forward.
Meng Cheng’an picked up Tian Xiang’s bag, and they were ready to walk.
Both their bikes were in the factory’s bike shed, so they had to walk back. Fortunately, it wasn’t far, roughly a ten-minute walk.
They paid no mind to Tian Chuying, who stood by the side of the road watching the delivery truck leave.
Tian Chuying’s intention was clear: she hoped Lu Feng would come down and escort her.
Unfortunately, he didn’t say a word and stayed on the truck.
Tian Chuying looked at the departing truck and then at Meng Cheng’an nearby, burdened with bags, feeling jealous and sad, with red-rimmed eyes.
Despite getting off at over ten, they arrived at the courtyards near eleven.
Except for streetlights, everything was pitch black at this hour.
Meng Cheng’an directly escorted Tian Xiang to her door.
Tian Xiang knocked on the door, and soon Hu Honglian’s voice came, "Who is it?"
Hu Honglian exclaimed, "Oh my, why did you return at this hour?"
Sounds of lights and getting out of bed quickly emerged from inside.
Outside, Meng Cheng’an said, "Then I’ll be going."
He had safely escorted her.
Tian Xiang: "No rush. Sit for a bit, have some hot water, and I’ll borrow a bike for you shortly."
Returning to the settlement from here without a bike took at least half an hour to walk.
Meng Cheng’an quietly asked, "Won’t that be awkward?"
His first time visiting, and he brought nothing!
Tian Xiang paused, understanding his concern.
She didn’t know those customs either!
"Consider it colleagues for now; I’ll discuss with my family later, and then make a formal visit."
