Chapter 61: Chapter 61
Chapter 61
ASH
"I'm pregnant!"
My world tilts for some precious seconds, before righting itself.
Pregnant.
She's Pregnant.
Pregnant. . . with a child.
My child.
How come?
Unfortunately, my brain isn't able to comprehend what she just said. "What did you just say?"
Tears slide down her eyes and her shoulders hunch forward like she's carrying the weight of the world on them. I wish I can hold her in my arms and tell her everything will be fine but my brain - it's refusing to boot.
"How. . . is that possible?" The words are out before I know it but I instantly regret it when I see her reaction.
Her eyes spit fire, and her shoulders which were hunched, arch backward. She cocks a brow as she stares at me with pure hatred. "What do you mean how is that possible? It was made possible when you inserted your dick inside of my vagina wayyy too many times to count, so don't just stand there and act shocked, 'cause the baby I'm carrying, is yours."
I blink, severally, because she's never raised her voice at me - not once. I take a step back to better assess her - and wow. She's like a raging bull with flaring nostrils. It's a total turn-on.
Yeah, no! I shouldn't be thinking about getting it on with her right now.
"It's. . . have you confirmed it?",is all I'm able to get out.
She gives me a hard look borne out of frustration before bringing her phone out of her pocket. I watch as she taps on it and thrusts it at me. Wordlessly, I take it and stare, and continue staring. I can't look away from it. "Is that. . . "
"Your baby!" Her tone is brittle, but I don't care. "A sonogram of your - our- baby." Her tone softens this time around and I tear my eyes away from the screen and look up at her.
Tears shine in her eyes, and there's a vulnerability I've never seen before. She's letting me see it, giving me a chance to change my dumb attitude toward the new addition.
That's when it dawns on me.
She's fucking having my child.
My baby.
A life is growing inside her womb.
Something else is thrust into my hand and I look down at it dumbly. "What is this?"
"Read it!" She orders.
I nod absentmindedly. It's a letter - no - a pregnancy test, on second look. "You're pregnant."
"No, shit, Sherlock Holmes." She says.
I tear my eyes away from the paper and realize the tears have vanished. In its wake is a fierceness shining all over her face. "If I leave with my baby, you'll never see me, or her again."
It feels like I've been hit by a train. "It's a girl?" I sound stupid. No! I sound dumber than dumb.
"It's a fucking g-"
"Don't even associate that dirty word with my baby. She's everything pure and good and I aim to keep it that way."
Her eyes flash with determination as she stares at me. I'm wondering what's going through her mind when she takes her suitcase from my hand and is about to walk away from me when I see my life flashing past. With lightning speed, I move forward and stand in front of her. "Not if I can help it. You're not going anywhere."
"Why? Because I'm pregnant, or is it because you don't want to lose my child? Or is it perhaps because you love me?" She cocks her head to the side, daring me to say something she doesn't like so she can shoot me another set of skin-itching words.
I shake my head in denial. "It's actually because I love you, and-"
She throws her head back and laughs riotously. When she comes down from her laugh-induced high, she wipes the corners of her eyes and shakes her head. "The first time you told me you loved me was when your dick was inside of me, and now you're saying it again because you don't want to lose your child."
It's my turn to get angry. The feeling blindsides me as to what is really important - her pregnancy - but I can't do a damn thing about it. I sweep her off her feet and hoist her onto my shoulder. I know this posture isn't right for her because she's upside down and that might not be good for the baby - whatever - I'm past caring. If I use words, she won't like what I'll say, so it's best I shut up and act it out instead.
I swift-walk to the basement where I dump her unceremoniously on the bed. She looks stunned as she tosses her long hair away from her face and looks around. "Wha. . . where is this place?"
"Your new room." I take a look around - at the spacious room bedecked in exactly the same furniture and fittings as my room, the only difference is that beyond this room lies a fully- functional kitchenette and a fully-stocked fridge, with all brands and types of food. "This is where you're going to be staying for the meantime until the danger has passed."
Evolution takes place on her face and I gotta tell you - it's like looking at a hornet's nest. "So you mean to tell me that I'll be sequestered down here while you're up there doing goodness knows what, probably frolicking with women of all shapes and sizes under the guise that you're trying to clear the danger?"
So that's her problem. I sigh and swipe my hand down my face. "Wrong! I'll be staying here with you."
"Doesn't that make you a coward though?" Her eyes - they taunt me and I know she knows it when it hits the mark.
"I am everything, but a coward. You'd do well to remember that."
"If that's the case. . ." She scoots off the bed and stands in front of me like an avenging angel. "I'm not a coward either, and I'll stand by you to fight. I might not actively be on the forefront, but I could give you ideas as to how to catch your look-alike, but I'll be damned if I stay down here. . ." She sweeps her hand around the room in an arc. "And hide like a rat, no sir, I won't!"
I knew there was a reason I got attracted to her apart from sex. She's fearless in the face of danger, willing to go against the world with me, and who the fuck am I to say no to that? "Looks like you've got yourself a deal." I say smiling.
