Chapter 238: Chapter 238

I shrugged and looked at the two women watching me with greedy eyes. "I’m not letting you have this, so instead. How about we kill those." I pointed to the massive horde of Stage One, Two and Three zombies heading towards us.

"How did they get here so quietly?"

A command type crawled in the centre of the Stage Two zombies, larger than the ones I had seen before, the exposed brain almost twice the size.

Much like Stage One, it lacked combat abilities.

But with the simple flick of its tendrils, the zombies moved like semi-intelligent humans in a peculiar formation.

"See, don’t they look more dangerous?" I chuckled.

I took something from my inventory that I prepared for Tang Wei, a specially modified shotgun that wouldn’t hinder her close combat abilities.

"W-What’s that!?" Tang Wei’s eyes sparkled, her love for shotguns something I learned back in the mall. "It’s strange... I’ve never seen a gun before."

"It’s a modified Sawed-off shotgun, the recoil and kick are much higher and shells are loaded here..."

I showed her an example, shells slotted into the left chamber beside the trigger... for a professional like Tang Wei, I thought realoading in this manner would help her during close combat.

Her hands slipped along the barrel and grip... "It’s so hard, and thick...." Her eyes narrowed in delight, the gun could probably clash with my gauntlet’s sword and remain undamaged. The metal and wood used to reinforce the shotgun are strong enough to resist a Stage Five Brute’s destructive power.

"I’ll make it up to you, John."

With Tang Wei excited over her new weapon, I looked back at the enemy.

The Stage Three lingered behind the group, watched like beasts with traces of intellect.

Meanwhile, the command type sent the brutes to form a wall, with blade types in between the gaps and speed types on either flank... "I fear the day they learn to use guns."

"John! There’s no way these bastards can do that." Li Ya huffed, stepping to the right, she spun her halberd and slammed it into the wet mud. "Come on!"

"Well, I’ll take this side." Tang Wei’s hand slipped across my crotch as she passed, her sharp eyes glancing at me like a lioness. "I won’t forget this gift."

The subtle changes in Tang Wei made me curious, but it wasn’t the right time to care.

"These gauntlets are cool, but fighting several monsters is annoying."

I flicked them with a low metal creak.

With a hiss of air, they folded into themselves and formed bracelets, though not as tightly. It was convenient since the material appeared to be a flexible alloy.

At first, I used a spear, then these gauntlets, but what’s next?

My thoughts drifted to all the weapons in my inventory...

One thing stood out, so I tapped the screen.

There was nothing special about the silver longsword, with a black leather grip and solid pommel. I flicked my wrist, the blade skill gained from using the gauntlets helped me.

I stepped forward, considering the benefits of learning several weapons.

Switching between spear, sword, and gauntlets might be pretty helpful... In the future, I could add more types of weapons.

The zombies grunted and groaned across from me, their eyes pale and dead.

However, the eerie atmosphere that emanated from the command-type zombie as it looked at me with its yellow eyes caused the hairs on my neck to stand up. The bloodlust in those lifeless sockets wasn’t something an ordinary human or even a Stage One or Two should possess.

"It seems that the blue zombies are definitely the most dangerous..."

A sense of intellect and emotion existed in those deformed, murky eyes that unsettled me.

"I thought you would never ask, leader." Tang Wei huffed, her right hand holding a standard military blade, the other a high-calibre, modified Sawed-off shotgun.

"... Hmph." Li Ya still reacted strangely, sometimes she came close and then ran away whenever I tried to connect with her.

My foot twisted, digging into the mud with a low squelch.

The moment I pushed off the ground, I rushed the zombies with explosive speed. They matched me almost perfectly, as if playing a game of chess, the line of Brute’s took formation and flew at us.

"Haaaaa!" Li Ya shouted, her body disappearing for a moment, but it was just a trick of the light—the moment she reappeared from behind a brute, dozens of zombies died by her halberd.

The low howl of shotgun shells firing signalled Tang Wei’s entrance into combat.

With a burst of speed that rivalled Jiang Roulan, she dodged between the brutes and blades, as her hand flipped the shotgun around in the air before catching it.

Her body bent back like an elegant dancer as a blade swished past her nose, then suddenly her shotgun went off, blowing the creature’s leg out from under it.

She laughed as her dagger cut through its neck, with a graceful yet ferocious beauty to the woman who always seemed sweet and quiet. The zombie’s blood splashed across her face, but... she looked like a demoness dancing in the rain.

"Well... shall we dance, boys?"

I held the longsword, curious about what weapons I could use and learn since nothing could stop me...

[Blade Mastery Level 3 --> Level 4]

The knowledge of swordfighting entered my mind like a slipstream of movements, stances and combat tactics.

With my heightened physique, strength and power... I cut through the air with a heavy slash that tore through the Brute’s chest. My foot sank into its stomach and dragged out the sword, causing blood and bile to explode across me. Then, with a fluid follow-up in midair, my blade cleaved the skull of another brute in two as I passed it by with a tight spin.

"Damn, this is amazing!"

I laughed, watching the two women slaughter zombies effortlessly, not one zombie got close, or even had time to raise an arm before we killed them all.

A blade flashed past my nose, then a giant fist slammed down the moment I avoided the blade. "Shit! Li Ya, Tang Wei! FOCUS!" The command type was now active, its body humming with a blue aura, as the zombies moved faster and more coordinated, launching a deadly assault of Stage Three zombies.

They moved together and attacked in sync...

A Blade Type and a Brute dashed towards me at once, while Hunters ran at Tang Wei and Li Ya. The air whistled, and I felt my skin itch—their attack power increased exponentially!

"Shit! Don’t get cocky!"

That attack almost cut off my nose! Fuckers...

If I didn’t have the special skill Urban Predator Instinct that allowed me to see their movements a fraction of a second before they attacked.

My head would be rolling on the floor.

System, analyse the skills and danger of that evolved Command Type!

[Affirmative. Leave it to me, John!]

Since it would take time, I could only focus on the battle... "Li Ya and Tang Wei might struggle..." I stepped back to avoid a brute’s charge, lifting my blade to deflect the attack of two blade types.

The sound of metal grinding against my sword caused goosebumps, so I pushed them back.

These creatures were much stronger now.

The Stage Three zombies approached the abilities of a Stage Four.

If the command types can boost the attributes of other zombies this much, then...

’Humanity is fucked...’

I cut along the muddy ground, rain pouring from the sky as I struck. The instant my blade cut an arc through the sky, it caught the flash of lightning and shone with a luminescent silver light.

The zombie’s blood burst into the air like red flower petals.

My blade cut through three brutes before I spun around in a forceful spin. Tang Wei remained focused on the hunters, her shotgun a blur as she reloaded, spun it and fired with precise movements.

A warning shout left my throat as I watched two stage three brutes leap towards the woman.

She didn’t reply, only deflecting two fists that almost smashed her face, then slid along the muddy, wet ground with blood dripping down her cheek. "Fuck!" She cursed in a strange language... I didn’t know, but it sounded like a Western dialect.

Despite the struggle...

Somehow I could feel my heart racing, not in fear or worry... but Excitement.

When did fighting strong enemies become so exhilarating?

My blade tore through another zombie like hot butter—the filthy blood no longer smelled disgusting or made me sick. Instead, it was intoxicating.

The more I killed, the more I desired to do so.

’Is this how a monster feels?’

A flash of purple crossed my vision as a long halberd cleaved a brute into two.

"Hey! I could use a little help here!"

I snapped out of my strange trance and saw Li Ya surrounded by Stage Three zombies.
