Chapter 71: Chapter 71

Nadia stood by the window to her room watching Angel approached yet again by another she-wolf. Tiana had told her they were gammas somewhat like the pack securities, brought from their original home as a result of construction going on over there.

It had been close to two weeks since they got back from Moscow and every night he took his bath, changed his clothes and left. She had no idea where he went to or with whom he spent the nights and she was about had it. Tiana had told her he intended to move to the island because of a project he was supposed to oversee there and he hadn't discussed it with her, not to mention letting her know if she was going to go with him or if he intended to abandon her here.

He wore a black top like the rest of the Alphas over equally black pants.

His beard was fuller now and his hair longer. He looked really good and she wasn't surprised females were drawn to him. When the lady raised her hand to run her fingers through his hair, Nadia turned away and walked inside the bathroom. Amelie and Isabelle had invited her to join them for a picnic in the field and she had decided to join them. There seemed to be some kind of celebration going on and she was tired of isolating herself. She had kept to herself for the past few days because of Angel's behaviours but she was tired of feeling sorry for herself.

If Angel was going to keep flirting and ignoring her then she would let him know she wasn't so pathetic that she would be waiting in the corner for him. An inner voice reminded her that she was the one who told him she didn't want him and had wanted to reject him even but she ignored the thought.

Her bruises were all gone now and her swollen face had gone down too. She packed her hair up to show off her beautiful face and cut her shirt into a crop top and her Jean just slightly below her ass. It was freezing outside but she discovered she could walk around without a winter coat like the she-wolves now. She didn't know if it was a result of her mating with Angel or because of her being a wolfless clan.

After applying little makeup from the collection Amelie gave her, she wore ankle boots and tucked in Tiana’s gift to the side before leaving the room, holding a jacket just in case.

As soon as she got outside, she could feel Angel's gaze on her but she ignored him, pretending not to notice him, she scanned the field for Amelie and Isabelle and saw them carrying a basket and heading farther into the woods. Nadia hurried her steps and followed them. She heard a whistle as she walked past some men and didn't bother to look in their direction. A gentle buzz of music was playing in the background. Snow drifted lightly in the air and the full moon was the main source of light. She inhaled lightly, enjoying the fresh air and feeling rejuvenated.

"Hey, let me help with that," she said to Amelie and Isabelle. The two women paused and turned to meet her gaze. Amelie's eyes widened when she saw what she wore. Isabelle looked over her shoulder and then back at her.

"Do you have a death wish?!" Isabelle said in a laughing tone.

"You are a brave one. I give you that," Amelie said, chuckling.

"What?" Nadia replied, acting Faux-naïf.

"Nothing. You look and dressed sexy in a pack full of lusty Weres and human males when you have an alpha mate and that always ends badly. Just make sure you don't get anyone killed. I’m trying to have the night off," Amelie said. Nadia grinned and relieved her of the basket.

The three picked a spot behind a tree and spread a thick blanket on the snow-dusted grass. Nadia noticed the place was recently cleared and wondered if it was a spot the ladies used often.

Tiana and Opaline joined them later and the five women sat there talking about Isabelle coming nuptial

"Congratulations, when is it?" Nadia said.

"In two months' time, we are hoping the construction on the island would have been finished and Amelie would have had her pup…" Isabelle explained.

"Oh, I'm sure the baby will come sooner than that,” Nadia said, glancing at Amelie's huge stomach. “How many months is it? Eight?" Nadia asked. Amelie smiled, holding her gaze.

"Would you believe it if I told you it's just been five months?"

"Five?" Nadia repeated in awe. “No way!”

"Yup. I have discovered the pregnancy circle for carrying a Were baby is different from ours. And you are right, the baby could come anytime soon and I would really prefer we were back on the island," Amelie said. Opaline and Isabelle reached for her hand.

"Don't worry, Amelie, it's going to be alright," Isabelle said.

"You have us," Opaline added.

"Thank you, ladies," Amelie said. "I feel so lucky to be part of this family," she added. Nadia swallowed, watching the obvious love directed at the human doctor. Indeed she was lucky, her mate loved her and they were starting a family. She felt a tad jealous of her. She wished she could have that too but with the way Angel kept drawing away from her, she was afraid they might both soon be strangers. All the things that had made her angry with him, seemed so insignificant now in this new world. But she was afraid she might never be able to remove that wall between them now. The ladies shifted their conversation to how the island would look when it was done. They all seemed excited and Nadia smiled as she watched them quietly.

Much later when they ran out of fruit wine for Amelie, Nadia offered to go and get it.

"Ask Cole or Xavier. See them over there," Tiana said. Nadia nodded and got up.

"Nadia…" Isabelle called before she rose to her feet. She paused and met the other Were grey eyes so much like her mates'. She swallowed. "Wear the jacket, please," Isabelle said. Nadia nodded. She took the jacket and her cup, wearing the jacket as she walked away, leaving the front open.

She sipped her drink as she walked towards the group of alphas, walking past both Weres and men, knowing very well they were all looking at her. When she saw that Angel was now standing with the other alphas her step faltered and she pretended to look into her cup, thinking perhaps she shouldn't go there and should just call out to Xavier to come to her.

"Hey beautiful, you need something?" a male voice said and she raised her eyes in the direction. The tall male was clearly human, she figured one of Ash's men. He wore a black fitted top with security written over the chest. His hair was cut low to his scalp, military style, and the leering look he was giving her made his intention pretty clear.

"No, thanks, I just remembered I was supposed to do something… Thanks anyways," Nadia said, giving the man a polite smile.

"Well, if you need anything. You can come to find me, I'm Gerald. Ash’s colleague," he said the last part with a raised eyebrow as if he wasn't quite sure he was doing well with the introduction. Nadia chuckled.

"I know Ash, thanks," she said.

"Alright," Gerald said as his face brightened.

Nadia didn't know what it feels like when a prey realised it was being stalked but she knew it must be similar to what she felt when she raised her eyes and saw Angel looking straight at her from where he stood. His eyes were dark and stormy, and from where she stood, she could feel the tension from the way he held himself very still. Nadia lowered her gaze and took the remaining steps to meet up with the Alphas.

"Hello, Nadia," Cole said as soon as he saw her. Nadia threw them all a shaky smile.

"Um… Amelie needs fruit wine," she said.

"I will get one and bring it over," Cole said and left.

"We don't get to see you often. Are you unwell?" Xavier asked.

"I was a little bit down but I am fine now," Nadia said.

"I don't believe we have met, I'm Darrow," one of the alphas said, smiling at her. Nadia noticed he didn't try to shake her hand and she gave him a subtle nod.

"At least now we know why Angel is keeping you away from everyone. I'm Wulfrun," another alpha said, and he offered her his hand. Nadia took it.

"Nice to meet you," Nadia said in a small voice.

"Oh, the pleasure is all mine," Wulfrun replied.

"Cut it out, man," Xavier said. Wulfrun and Darrow chuckled. Nadia flashed an awkward smile and gestured backwards with her hands.

"I should get back to the girls," she said.

"Wouldn't you at least acknowledge your mate?" Wulfrun said, "or did I misunderstand, you are claimed, aren't you?"

"Wulfrun..." Xavier snarled in warning.

"Why? Do you want a mate, alpha Wulfrun?" Nadia asked with a flirtatious flick of her eyebrows. The alpha seemed momentarily dazzled and he swallowed. Darrow cursed. Nadia leaned closer to him and said in a sexy, conspiratorial whisper, "You should discuss that with Alpha Xavier." She winked, and then drew back, and turned to Xavier. She stretched upward to give him a peck on the chin, drew back and said, "Enjoy your night gentlemen." She walked away, waving at Gerald as she walked past the human again. She knew she had lit a match in a room filled with explosives and she didn't give a fuck.

Angel watched her leave, feeling quite homicidal. The fact that he stood there without reacting was nothing short of a miracle.

"Okay so what did you do, Angel? Clearly, she is upset with you?" Darrow said. Angel shrugged.

"I guess I will find out when I go upstairs," he said.

"You should tame her, she is a wild one," Wulfrun said and Angel could perceive his lustful feelings in the words. He supposed Xavier could as well because his cousin glared at the other Were.

"Stop, Wulfrun. She is Angel's mate, you can not joke around like that," Xavier said.

"I know. I know. But damn man, she is hot…" Wulfrun said.

"I know you don't know me too well because we just met. Don't mistake my silence for approval to talk about my woman like that. If you do it again, there would be nothing to laugh about," Angel delivered as calmly as he could muster, raising his eyes to meet the other alpha's dark ones.
