Chapter 67: Chapter 67

Angel felt the journey to Ontario took far longer than the other time he had travelled with Antonio Rufus to the United States. He wondered if it was intentional and began to think it was when they got to the airport after midnight. About three trucks were already waiting for them. Hefty-looking ones with dark-tinted glasses that Angel was certain were bulletproof. And just like when he travelled with Antonio Rufus no official came inside to check them. Cole Miller left the jet and came back to give Xavier a thumbs-up. Shortly after, Xavier asked them all to disembark, telling them how to file into the trucks and who is going with who.

Cole Miller gestured to Isabelle, Amelie, Opaline and Nadia to follow him.

"Tiana, Ash asked to pick you up himself," Cole said, raising an eyebrow at her. She smirked. Opaline and Isabelle giggled. Nadia looked amused watching the display.

"Yes, Cole," she said simply and walked past him.

Cole sighed and gave Angel a glance, "You are coming with us. Please help the ladies into the first black truck," he instructed.

"Of course," he replied and led the ladies out.

"Kurt, Faelan, Odwolf, Amarok, Fenrir, Hrolf, Ralph, Ariston, and Berion, Jason is leading you out," Cole continued. And group by group they file out with military precision. Down on the tarmac, Angel helped the ladies down the stairs and when it got to Nadia's turn she hesitated before accepting his help but he caught the gesture.

The interior of the trucks was fashioned like that of limousines with two large seats facing themselves. He first helped Amelie inside then Isabelle, Opaline and then Nadia. He shut the door afterwards and waited by it for the others to enter their trucks. And within minutes everyone was already inside their individual trucks. With the setting and the level of luxury Angel saw so far, he understood what Xavier meant when he said Cole Miller was an integral part of their rescue.

The human, Ash and his team didn't come with them in Cole Miller's jet but Angel saw the hefty man parked another truck by the side and Tiana walked up to enter the passenger seat. He smirked to himself. Understanding that Ash was laying claim to his woman and just plain wanting it clear she was his to care for.

He hoped he would soon be able to do that with Nadia and take charge of their lives.

"Okay, that's everyone, let's get out of here," Cole Miller said, coming towards him with Xavier. Angel wasn't surprised to see Cole Miller going to the driver's side. Xavier gestured to Angel to enter the back where the ladies were and he pulled the passenger seat open. Angel climbed in and soon enough the truck went in motion. Looking outside the side window, he saw that Ash's truck was in the lead, followed by Jason's, then the ones carrying the other alphas. Cole Miller's truck was the last on the queue.

"Let's maintain this speed guys, and we are not stopping for anyone," Cole Miller's voice rang from the front and Angel knew he was communicating with the other drivers.

Angel could feel the tension in the truck. And what Xavier told him about their kind still being hunted resounded in his head. He understood why the women were kept with Xavier and Cole Miller and why each truck had experienced military personnel driving it. He sat straighter understanding he was on guard duty.

"Hungry?" he heard Isabelle ask Amelie but kept his attention outside the truck watching them speed past snow-piled grounds and distant lights.

"Boss, there's a police checkpoint upfront, accident," Angel heard Ash's voice coming from Cole Miller's earpiece.

"Slow down, let me lead, we will take another route," Cole Miller said.

"Hold on back there," Xavier said and Angel quickly reached out to grab the fruit juice Amelie was about to drink as the truck began to speed on uneven terrain.

"Jeez, thanks! Cole!" Amelie said with a widened gaze.

“Sorry, doc,” Cole said from the front.

Angel merely grinned, still holding on as the truck shook and sped for a while until the truck stabilized. He then drew back.

"You keep driving that way I'm going to have my baby in your truck, Cole!" Amelie yelled.

"Sorry, doc, just making sure we get back home with little drama, is all," Cole replied. Xavier and Angel chuckled.

When Angel directed his gaze at Nadia, he saw her looking at him. He held her gaze remembering the cease-fire moment they had a few hours before when she had slept in his arms. He had woken up to her slipping her hand inside his shirt and shifting the fabric upward so she could rub her cheek against his skin. It had been damn erotic and if they were alone, Angel thought he would have fucked her with no inhibitions. He watched her swallow gently and lowered her gaze. Angel reverted his gaze outside the window and saw they were surrounded by woods and tall layers of snow.

It took a while but soon enough they got on a private road with signage that read ‘trespassers would be shot on sight. Angel couldn't help chuckling.

"Let me guess, this is your property, Cole Miller?" Angel said.

"What gave it out?" Cole replied in a laughing tone.

"The obvious show of psychotic display of your hatred for company maybe?" Xavier said. Cole and Angel laughed.

"You don't like humans either, give me a break," Cole said. Angel grinned.

Nadia was enthralled by Angel’s relaxed mood in spite of the anticipated danger. Perhaps it was because, this time he figured he would be ready or perhaps it was because he was in the midst of strong, capable men. Whichever it was, Nadia was happy to see him this way. His smile and the sound of his laughter were like a balm to her soul. The warm gleam in his eyes made him even more breathtaking. And the rapid growth of his hair was masking the telltale signs of the horror he had endured in her uncle's estate. His strong jaw was dusted with jet black hair and so was his scalp. His lush lips were somewhat more pronounced and his eyes glowed with life. His charisma was lethal and when he smiled he was hypnotic. She wanted to touch him like she had the right to. And his eyes were daring her to do it.
