Chapter 57: Chapter 57
Soon enough they got to the house. An average-height woman was pacing impatiently on the front porch. Even with the bulky winter jacket she wore, Angel could see that she was pregnant when she let out a relieved sigh upon seeing them.
Angel heard Xavier growl, “It’s freezing out here, Amèlie !” using his alpha voice.
“I was worried, love!” she replied, rushing down the flight of stairs to meet up with them. Xavier drew her into his arms with so much tenderness that made Angel smile. He need not be told who the woman was.
“Where are Cole and Jason?!” she asked as soon as she drew back from her mate, darting her gaze from one figure to the other.
“Sorting out the mess we created. They will join us soon…” Xavier replied. When Amèlie ’s eyes locked with Angel’s, her eyes widen in evident shock.
“We are related… I am Xavier and Isabelle’s cousin,” Angel answered her silent query.
“Oh, my God! I am so sorry for your ordeal …” she said with great compassion. Her exotic purple eyes gleamed with emotions. Angel thought she was stunning. Angel couldn’t help lowering his eyes to her stomach. He had never known or met a Were with a human mate before, and the fact that it had happened to him and his cousins intrigued him. He wondered how the mixed genes would affect the baby: if it would be pure human or were like them. The thought that Nadia could be very well carrying his child caused his heart to increase the pace. A frown furrowed his eyebrows.
Amèlie must have caught the gesture because she laid a protective hand over her stomach and said, “I'm carrying Xavier’s baby, with the way he is growing he should be here any day now.” She rolled her eyes. Xavier chuckled and pressed a kiss to her forehead. Isabelle too came to wrap her arms around the woman from behind.
“Oh, he could just be a little giant, considering his father’s size,” Isabelle said. Amèlie giggled.
“Please, stop scaring me, I’m already eating like a glutton!”
“I’m not complaining,” Xavier replied. She beamed up at him. "Let's go inside before we turn into popsicles, so we can meet everyone," Xavier added. Everyone grunted with approval. Once they were inside, Angel saw uniformed servants coming to welcome them as if they were dignitaries. Angel met Kurt’s gaze and the other Were grinned with pleasure as he accepted the drink offered to him by one of the servants. Angel almost chuckled.
"Okay, everyone, before you all go to the rooms prepared for you to freshen up, I want you to meet Amèlie . She is my mate and also the pack's doctor. If you feel any discomfort, see her about it," Xavier said.
Amèlie waved and said, "Welcome, guys."
"Thank you, Alpha Xavier. I'm Kurt." The older Were stepped forward bowing a little to both Amèlie and Xavier.
"We are glad to have you join us, Kurt," Xavier said. Amèlie gave him a warm smile. When he stepped back Odwolf stepped forward and said his name, following Kurt's lead. Amarok, Fenrir, Ralph, and Hrolf also introduced themselves. When it got to Blaze's turn, the younger Were hesitated and every eye turned to watch him. He swallowed and stepped forward and then said, "I'm Blaze…"
"No. You are Faelan," Xavier corrected, holding the younger Were's gaze intently. Angel thought the pup was going to cry. He nodded, working his jaw. One of the Weres gave him a friendly pat on the back. Amèlie went to take his hand.
"Welcome back Faelan. We hope you will find happiness with us," she said. He nodded, giving her a grateful nod.
"Let me introduce everyone else, here is Alpha Darrow---" Xavier gestured to a bulky tall Were to his left. He had a distinctive scar across his left eyebrow. The Were merely grunted. "Beside him is Alpha Wulfrun…."
"How many alphas are here?" Amarok asked in awe.
"Four now five," Xavier replied, glancing at Angel.
"I have never seen so many Alphas in one place and not at each other's throats," Kurt interjected.
"Oh, we were at each other's throats. Xavier is just stronger…" Wulfrun said. Angel chuckled when Xavier groaned. Wulfrun like the rest of the Weres with Xavier was tall and muscular. His laughter sounded rusty like someone who wasn’t used to the act, and his green eyes gleamed with jest. He also had tattoos at the base of his neck and showed on his exposed sleeves. Angel guessed he must be fully inked or perhaps just his upper body.
"No, we are not at each other's throats because we are all friends and make decisions collectively," Xavier corrected. Darrow and Wulfrun scoffed, giving him a dismissive wave.
"I'm hungry. And since Isabelle's human seemed to be bent on feeding us to death. I will take advantage before he gets his annoying ass back here," Darrow said and walked towards the left corner of the hall. Isabelle giggled and hid it behind a cough. The other alpha Were rolled his eyes before walking away. Wulfrun followed him. Xavier sighed.
"Okay everyone, here is Hallec, he is my beta…" Xavier continued.
"Welcome," Hallec said simply.
"Thank you," a few of the Weres chorused. Others simply nodded.
"Now here is my twin sister…"
"We know who she is…." Odwolf grumbled. Isabelle smirked. Angel saw as all the Weres stared at her in admiration. She was beautiful and strong. He doubted there was a man on earth, Were or human who could resist her charm.
"Welcome anyway," Isabelle said. Angel chuckled. "Let me introduce Tiana, she is a Gamma and my friend," Isabelle said.
"Hey," the tall, slim she-wolf said, giving everyone a subtle wave. Angel caught Ash shifting on his feet and discreetly looked in his direction. The human was openly adoring the she-wolf. He lowered his face to hide a smile. Thinking Xavier's group was an interesting mix.
"This is Opaline, she is the pack's healer and also my friend," Isabelle concluded, saying the term my friend in the form of a warning.
"So, they are all spoken for?" Hrolf asked, openly admiring Tiana.
"Yes," Ash replied from the door. Tiana suppressed a giggle. Isabelle cleared her throat. Angel suspected she did that to keep from laughing. The shorter of the she-wolves, Opaline, bit her lower lip, swinging on her feet left to right with a devilish gleam in her eyes. If anything Angel knew the next few days would not be dull for certain.
"Don't worry guys. We will be heading back home soon," Isabelle said in a conspiratorial whisper. Xavier cleared his throat loudly. "What?!" Isabelle said, giving him an innocent glance. Xavier raised an eyebrow at her and she gingerly stepped back and then winked at Hrolf who grinned widely.
"As you all know, our host is Cole Miller… I believe he and Jason will join us soon. Meanwhile, we all need to get some rest and then get ready to move. We will be leaving as soon as he gets here. Food is that way," he gestured, pointing to a double door in the left corner of the room.
"Thank you, alpha," Kurt and Odwòlf said. The others either grunted or nodded as they followed the servants.
Angel made to follow them but Xavier stopped him.
Angel met his gaze and saw that Xavier was looking at the rest of the Weres, and waited till it was just the two of them in the foyer before meeting his gaze.
“Follow me,” he said. Angel nodded.
Xavier led him up the stairs and along a wide corridor to the last room on their left and pushed the door open, gesturing to him to come in. Angel followed.
“Put her down, Angel,” he said. Angel sighed. Although he was glad to be relieved of her weight finally. He was apprehensive about the conversation that was about to ensue.
