Chapter 14: Chapter 14

Angel took a glance in the cell block opposite his. Wolfe curled up on the cold concrete floor, leaving his bed untouched. He recalled the other Were was brought in shortly after him. Like the rest of them, he had been hopeful that they would find a means of escape, but after nine years, he gave up and became withdrawn until Antonio Rufus started making them mate with captured female wolves.

The guards would bring them from another cell block every Friday night, labeling them ‘gifts’. And there were times he would mix them up with human females. But they stopped bringing in humans when the death rate started piling up. A lot of the male Weres have been locked up for far too long and have fully embraced their animalistic side. Such Weres had totally lost touch with the real world and control was alien to them.

After that, they only bring in humans they want to be killed.

Wolfe had formed a bond with one of the she-wolves and every time she was brought in she only allowed Wolfe to touch her. Angel knew it wasn't going to end well and when Dan got wind of it, he had the cells on lockdown, drugged the she-wolf and brought her down into the pit. He strapped her to the wall and raped her repeatedly while Wolfe raged and watched. When the guard came to untie her and took her away, she was dead. They had literally let him watch her die. He had never been the same after that. He grew violent and always threatened to kill Dan every time he saw him. They stopped letting him out and even had a contraption made to encase his head in. Just to restrain his jaw.

"We will get out, Kurt. Antonio Rufus is beginning to give me more responsibilities without supervision. And now with this thing with Nadia, I might be able to use her to get us out of here."

"Use her?"

"Yes, Kurt."

"Don't become one of them, Angel."

"You have to pick a side, Kurt. I want out of here and I will use every leverage I have!" he said through gritted teeth. Kurt sighed. "Not a word of this to anyone, Kurt," he warned. The other Were's eyes flashed with anger at his words.

"You are really a piece of work, Angel," he growled.

"I am not dying here in this shithole. I am not," Angel snarled. Kurt gasped. Shocked when he saw Angel snarled again, baring his teeth and he could see the extended canine teeth.

"How?" he asked in awe. Angel did not pretend as if he did not understand what he was inquiring about.

"My mate," he replied simply without further explanation. Kurt grinned then.

"Maybe now I believe we do have a chance," he said with gusto.

"Keep it down, Kurt. This is between us two," Angel cautioned. Kurt nodded, beaming with smiles.

When Angel lay on his bed with hands folded behind his head, he directed his eyes to the sidewall, settling them on the clock. It was a big digital one, mounted up the concrete wall for everyone to see. He noted it was 3 a.m. He was glad for a lot of things that night, one of them was escaping the cry of pain and anguish that sipped through the walls every night.

When it first started, he thought he was having some kind of persistent nightmare, after that he figured he was going crazy like some of the Weres but recently he found out the humans Antonio Rufus kidnapped and trafficked shared a boundary wall with them, and so did the she-wolves. Their cries were enough to drive one insane. It was a constant motivation to never give up. He had every intention to get every single captive under Antonio Rufus's thump out. He just never figured out how. But now with Nadia, it just might be plausible.

Angel didn't know when he fell asleep. He woke up to Wolfe whimpering and a loud bang of a cell door. He sighed and sat up, cradling his head in his hands. He felt different today. He felt strong and well rested. The reason for that flooded his mind and he imagined her lying in her bed naked. His body stirred.

The sound of a loud thud made his head jerk up. His eyes settled on Kurt who was standing by the iron barred entrance of his cell, looking towards the entrance the guards normally took. They carried in an unconscious male.

Angel sniffed and knew instantly the boy was a Were. He stood up and walked to stand by his iron door. The guards unlocked an empty cell, carried the man inside and threw him, unceremoniously, on the bed. Then they marched out and locked the cell door.

One of the guards looked in his direction and grinned. Angel tensed up as he recognised him as one of the ones that were to return him to his cell the night before.

"We have one more weapon against you now, wolf-boy," he said, chuckled and started to walk away with the rest of the men.

"What was that about?" Angel heard one other guard ask. He gripped the iron bar tightly, waiting for the response with bated breath.

"You should have seen Miss Rufus hexed him yesterday. He obeyed her like a babe in the woods," the guard replied, laughing. The rest joined in as they milled out.

Angel let out the breath he didn't know he was holding, for a minute there he feared someone had seen them together.

"Angel!" Kurt called and he snapped his face in his direction, his eyes glowed darkly. Kurt cursed.

"Let go of the damn bar before you crush it and expose yourself!" the other Were snapped. Angel blinked, lowered his eyes to the hands holding the iron bars and let go at once. He saw he had made a slight dent in the rod already and he let out a string of curses.

"You have to be careful, brother. I don’t think it is that noticeable – not by human eyes of course," Kurt said. Angel started to pace about his cell, strolling like a caged lion.

"Take a calming breath, man," Kurt coached.

"What's happening?" Angel heard Blaze ask from the other side of Kurt’s cell.

"Nothing, just Angel having his normal panic attacks," Kurt said.

"What did they do to him?!" Blaze growled.

"I'm fine, Blaze!" Angel said loud enough to calm the younger man. Blaze was a much younger Were brought in about five to six years ago. Angel often thought he was the most unfortunate of them all. Almost everyone preyed on him. He even heard that Daniel molested him. Although the boy would not talk about it, his uncontained rage was an obvious giveaway – always bubbling under his skin. He was quick to anger and got punished a lot. But that didn't make him change. It was almost as if he wanted them to kill him and get it over with. But Angel and the rest of the gang were able to get him a tad amenable and were even the ones that gave him the name, Blaze since the boy could not remember anything about his life before he was brought there.

Angel noticed the young man was rather protective of him, and he felt the same about him, he didn’t like it though. He knew it would be used against him somehow and often cautioned him at times to keep it contained.

"Are you sure?" Blaze asked and his voice carried in the expansive space.

"Yes, brother, I am," Angel replied.

"Who are you, people? Are you all Weres?" a hesitant voice asked with disquiet from the newly occupied cell and they all directed their gaze to the newcomer. He was about six feet tall with jet black hair and matching coloured eyes. He was lean -- too lean as if he had been starved from wherever they brought him from.

"Yes, we are Werewolves," Kurt answered. The young man looked like he was going to cry and then shook his head.

"They kidnapped you all too?" he asked again.

"Yes," Kurt answered.

"Don't worry, the white fur beast would come to get us all out," the boy said, nodding to himself in assurance.

"Great! Another deluded fool!" Blaze thundered.

"What is your name?" Angel asked.

"Freki," the guy replied.

"I am Angel. Who is this white fur beast?"

"He is an alpha with primal Wulfblood! He is one of the true clan,” the young man said with pride, Angel swore his chest swelled with the declaration. “he is going about rescuing captured Weres and taking them to a mountain up North. Most people call it the frosty island. Nobody knows where it is though. He kept it secret, protecting our kind."

"That's pretty specific for a deluded fool, Blaze," another voice he recognised as Aztecs’ sounded from somewhere in the block.

"A trap then? Perhaps he was brought in here to sell us some fucking pipe dream!" Blaze yelled.

"I will never sell out my kind!" the new guy yelled back. The entire cell went quiet.

"Tell me more about this Wulfblood white wolf," Angel urged. He could feel Kurt's eyes on him. He knew Kurt knew the only other surviving wulfblood was him, and he had thought he was the last of his family. If the new guy was truly not deluded, then they had found an ally and someone who could help them break out. Angel turned and caught Kurt’s gaze. The other guy let out a meaningful sigh. Angel understood that now they have a plan.
