Chapter 28: Chapter 28

There is always an end but also a new beginning

Elle's POV

Here I am on my death bed writing my last bit of the unbelievable adventures. I do not regret anything from my life, as I could not have asked for something better then what I had. No ordinary human had the opportunities that I had, so I am honoured and grateful to be this lucky. Even though I am feeling weak, I am still happy.

I want my handsome sons to grow up strong like their father. Both of them have so much in common, but they are not able to shift from Ragnons to human-like we can, at least for now.

I remember the first time I laid eyes on them I realised that that was the third time that my life would change for the better. Both of them have completed my wish list. They came from love, were brought up with love and will one day express the same love they received in their childhood when they have their own family. I bless them with a lifetime full of health, love and a tuneful of adventures.

Elijah has been the best partner I could ever have. He is a gentle, caring, loving husband and father to our children. I remember the first time we met, I could feel that he was the one. The connection was built in an instinct and since then we never left each other's side. Always and forever till death do us part.

My husband is still as handsome as he used to be thirty years ago. The Ragnons have a life span of about a thousand years and they celebrate a birthday every nine years. They never grow old even if they are over nine hundred years. Their skin remains young and their muscles intact. Thanks to Elijah I have received that gift too when I was turned with that bite, but that didn't stop me from getting sick. My human side was still within me.

I fell ill a few months ago when I was picking up some flowers, enjoying some alone time. I could suddenly feel myself getting dizzy and fainted. Elijah as he was watching me from the window, came to my aid and took me to hospital. Unfortunately, there is no cure for my illness so I have to embrace death. I can feel it now. I cannot move a lot, my heart is slowing down and I can hardly breathe.

Elijah's POV

I am so saddened by Elle's death and I cannot seem to feel happiness anymore. The love of my life, my strength, my weakness is gone forever. She died young even though her DNA has made it possible for her to be half Ragnon. She could have lived for a thousand years as she deserved to.

I was with her till the end but I couldn’t bear to look at her like that. She has turned into her human form as soon as she fell ill. Her pale soft skin and her beautiful eyes were slowly losing their strength.

The smile I could not resist was fading away along with her happiness. With one last smile, she told me that she loved me all her life. She was buried on planet Rignau in her favourite spot amongst the flowers that she so much enjoyed picking each season. Every morning, I still walk to my kitchen window, imagining her walking amongst the flowers, smelling them, one by one like she used to do.

Since her burial, which was held a few days ago, I have noticed a lot of butterflies gathering around that area, like it is her sending a sign that she is still with us in spirit.

My life is nothing without her but I have to stay strong for my children. What I can say is that she gave me a life full of adventures. We travelled to a lot of planets, she showed me life on earth. We went to Nora and Jack's wedding which was great fun and discovered that humans surely know how to enjoy their short life.

I decided to propose to Elle a few weeks after Nora and Jack's wedding and we invited them to come to visit the planet Rignau to celebrate our engagement and help prepare for our ceremony. I remember how they both were shocked when they found themselves on another planet. Their eyes almost ran out of their sockets. They both burst to laugh with excitement.

Elle gave me her secret diary to write the last piece of it myself for her. She wanted me to give it to our sons as soon as I finish the last bit of it. I wish my children had more time with her.

Our two boys are twenty-three and twenty-five in human life. They inherited both of our traits and were born and live on planet Rignau.

Neil, the youngest was born with turquoise eyes and very pale white hair. Like his mother, he loves adventures and exploring.

He fell in love with Jade, Jack and Nora's daughter, as they grew up together. They made sure that every few weeks they meet up either on Rignau or on earth and plan some good adventures together.

Zack, our firstborn, has blue eyes and orange hair like his mother's human side and is very energetic and loving. He is dating Jordy, also human and they met whilst they were in a library choosing books to read. Now Jordy is living with us on Planet Rignau so Zack does not visit Earth as much as he used to.

Elle was pleased to know that they were happily settled and loved to spend time with them all especially on her death bed as she knew that she would never see them marry and have kids.

I have decided to bring Elle's parents to live with us as they grew very old and they needed someone to help them out. Since their daughter's passing, they have lost their energy and their appetite too. They decided to write their will, and the house to my sons and I promised that I’ll always make sure to keep it within our family because the Zarogian tree had to remain a secret from other humans and safe from any harm.

Months have passed since Elle left us and nothing special happened for me to write down. I tried hard to gather myself but something kept pushing me back down. Every night I feel Elle's bedside empty and as I close my eyes, I dream of her being by my side, smiling at me like she used to.

Months later

Yesterday as it was getting dark I walked to Elle's resting place and stood there looking at her memorial plaque for the very first time since her funeral. I never dared to go, as I was not ready to face my pain, but I have managed to build up some courage. I knelt feeling the soil and the grass, thinking of how much I was missing her presence when suddenly I felt tingles all over my body.

For the first time in a long time, I unwillingly shifted into my human form. I felt confused and had no clue what my body was up to. I thought my emotions were controlling me. I stayed for a while there, quiet sitting down above Elle's grave when I felt something moving below me. I moved away and was shocked to see a hand emerging from under the ground.

Immediately I knew whose hand it was, but I couldn't believe it. I thought I was hallucinating at first, but then, I realised that what I was seeing was for real. At night I had dreams of her returning to me, but I never believed it would happen for real.

She tried to reach for something to help her go out from under the ground, and I rushed to push her up. She was full of dirt but sure enough, her body remained intact. How can it be?!

She looked at me with her turquoise eyes and blurted out "you....you saved me."

We were both shocked and it took us a while to realise that she was truly back "Elle! How can this be?!"

I hugged her tightly and cried with joy.

My body started to feel alive again as soon as it felt you close to me, and my heart started to beat again. She reached my face with her hands and I closed my eyes, feeling the soft sensation of her palms.

I felt myself shifting into Ragnon form and this time our bodies connected, creating a strong light coming from within us. I felt my body getting stronger and surely she must have felt the same.

"Always and forever," she said smiling at me.

Our eyes started shimmering like glitters and our hair being blown away from our faces. I could see her hair growing longer and it changed colour to a very vibrant red.

All the family gathered around us as they spotted us from the house and rushed to get closer. We smiled at each other and pulled each other into a hug. Suddenly the light slowly faded and our hair dropped down back on our shoulder. At first, everyone remained silent and in awe of the scene in front of them, but then they cheered and screamed with joy as they all came in for a hug.

I have found the will to survive and a purpose to keep living. She is my light and I don't know how she survived, but our connection remained strong even after her death, and that is what brought her back. Not only that, it seems like she looks younger and more stunning than she already was.

Elle's POV

Since I am alive again, I can continue to write my last bit of the book. I can't believe how I managed to survive, surely people from earth would never believe it. My parents are staying with me and they barely leave my side, as they are afraid of losing me again, but I have explained to them that I cannot die any more.

Belle thought I should go check myself up, to make sure that I was ok. The results came out that both Elijah and myself are unable to die. Also, we can withstand very heavyweight. I can still change into human form but my skin remains pale white like my Ragnon skin and nothing cuts through it.

Nora is considering to stay with us on Rignau. I love the idea as I won't need to travel to earth to see her, but she needs to convince Jack as he is finding it difficult to do a drastic change like that. Jade is living with us since she is getting married to my son Neil quite soon, so maybe her parents might be more convinced to stay.

Belle's POV

Finally, my brother is happy again. I was so saddened by Elle's death and so worried for Elijah. I promised Elle that I will take care of him, as that was her last wish. I have done my best from my side but I was finding it difficult to bring his spirit up. Thanks to the impossible she came back to us and once again brought us so much joy and courage.

All the Ragnons look up to her and tried to convince her and Elijah to be their Queen and King, but she kept refusing. She doesn't want any titles even if they live forever. She wants to be ordinary just like everybody else. Surely Elijah and Elle will never be forgotten for their uniqueness, their bravery and their will to make Rignau a better place for the future generations. Shaun, our best sculpture Rignau has, is working on creating two statues for Elle and Elijah and will be placed at the centre of the small city that we have wether Elle wants to or not.
