Chapter 62: Chapter 62
She picked a comb and pulled it through her hair. It was so hopeless, she felt like crying again and she longed for the comfort of Bryan's arms, she wished she could lean on his powerful shoulders and tap from his strength. And the worst thing was that if he it in contact with him, she would get that comfort, that strength to lean on. He had offered tenderness the night they had been together, albeit after he had forced her to submit without reserve. She didn't understand why but it had always been that way between them.
It would be so easy to submit. So easy and pleasurable. A tiny voice forced itself into her consciousness. Bryan wanted her now but how long would it last? Especially now that she was pregnant again? Six months? A year maybe? And that was being optimistic. If she allowed their affair to continue, wouldn't she be hurt all over again? And would she have the strength to recover a second time?
She groaned, covering her face with her hands. Was she such a fool that she was longing to make such a mistake again? When she was alone, it was so easy to promise herself that she wouldn't become involved again. When she was with Bryan,it was a different ball game altogether. Her body and her heart turned tritor and she didn't have the strength to fight herself as well as him. Which was why she would continue keeping out of his way. She would avoid him like the plague.
She let out her breath in a long shaky sigh, fighting the treacherous longings she could feel inside. If she was pregnant -- the complications were too enormous to think about. She would have the test before even daring to think about it. There was no point in piling up problems unnecessarily.
Gabriel made a pot of tea and some toast. She sat down on the kitchen table, pale but in control of herself. Gabriel poured the tea into two cups. 'Have something to eat', he said staring at her
Sharon looked at the pile of thin toast and felt sick again. 'I couldn't '.
'You should eat something. You are as thun as rake' Gabriel reproved frowning.
'I'm not hungry', she said firmly, sipping the hit tea, enjoying it.
Gabriel ate some of the toast himself watching her the whole time. 'We shall go and see Ralph, he will tell you one way or another'.
'Ralph Taylor was one of Gabriel's closest friends, a doctor with general practice near y.
Sharon nodded, grateful that Gabriel was not asking any questions. 'I suppose it's the best thing'.
'It is', He stood going into Deborah's room to see if she was awake and found her stirring. 'Come on, let's go now and get it over with'.
'Where are we going?' Deborah asked as she woke.
'No where actually, love. it your mum complained of some stomach ache and we want the doctor to find out what is causing it's, he explained.
'Is she pregnant then?' she asked innocently and Gabriel exchanged glances with Sharon.
'Who told you about pregnancy?' he asked because Sharon was dumb founded not knowing what to say or what to tell her of it was found out that she was indeed pregnant.
'I have seen alot of women with protruded stomach which means they are going to have a baby but mummy's belly is not big. it I would love to have a little brother or sister who I can play with. My other friends have bigger and smaller brothers and sisters except me and they keep asking me about my dad. When will dad come back from his trip mummy? Is he not taking too long?'
Sharon felt the sting of tears in her eyes. She did not blame her daughter, not at all.She had seen other happy families and in the real sense theirs should have been a happy one too but Bryan was not interested in such commitments. it in the pleasure her body gave him and now it was possible that she had got herself into the same ness as before and she was just weak and helpless and did not know what to do. If the test results were positive, would she hide it from him again?
'Do not worry about that. When the time comes your dad will come home and you shall meet with him. Right now, I need to find out about this stomach ache. Come into the kitchen for a cup of tea and some toast, uncle Gabriel Made it for you'.
She scrambled into the kitchen to have her light breakfast and Gabriel looked at Sharon GIn.
'I respect your decision to keep this away from Bryan. it don't you think you are being inconsiderate to Deborah? In trying to punish Bryan, you are denying your daughter alot of things such as her father's love and care'.
'And how are you sure he would be happy to know that she has such that would hamper his movement and lifestyle?'
'I wouldn't until I find out and the same goes for you. You can not be here and decide what someone's reaction would be. She is his blood. The blood will definitely call him home to his responsibilities'.
'I do not need his money. I gave managed so well so far without his help. Gabriel, I am in no mood for any arguments now. You are starting to sound like David. Maybe later I shall give it a thought but now isn't the time'.
Gabriel kept quiet, thanking God that at least there was someone else wise enough to speak to her about her daughter's paternity.
Deborah finished her food, Gabriel helped prepare her and then they were on their way.
Sharon was a mass of nerves as they drove to the surgery. She wanted it to be a false alarm but Ralph Taylor in his quiet pleasant way, confirmed the worst. She was pregnant with Bryan's child
