Chapter 103: Chapter 103

Sharon called Gabriel to know where he was and he told her that he was in her house getting the food.

'Get enough brooth as well. Bryan has woken from the coma and would soon ask for food and the best thing for him at the moment is brooth or something liquid'.

'What did you say? Did you say that Bryan is alive, as in woken from his coma?' he asked incredulously.

'That is what I said and I am very happy. Hurry up and get here and I shall tell you all the juicy details'.

Next, she called David.

'Devon was here and boasted if how she had succeeded in killing Deborah. Was she really able to take her from under your care?'

'Of course not. She was here but though she threatened me and some others with both a knife and gun, before she could even see my goddaughter, she was surrounded and ran off. That must be when she came to the hospital to threaten you too. But how did it go over there? She definitely did not succeed for you to sound so confident'.

'Bryan is awake. You can bring Deborah and I shall tell you all about it'.

Sharon was happy. Devon thought that she could not win because she was a coward but she had eventually won.

Gabriel got back with the things she had instructed him to and as if on cue, Bryan opened his eyes again.

'My man Bryan, you eventually came back to us mere mortals?'

Bryan smiled but it did not come out quite right but that was understandable.

Sharon quickly got out the brooth and started feeding it to him. He kept looking at her. 'How are my children?' he asked and Sharon understood what he meant.

'Dince I am alive, your unborn child is alive and kicking but I must admit that you gave us quite a scare. Your daughter is okay as well. David will be here soon with her'.

'Is that really ideal? Should she see me this way?' he asked not sure and Sharon remembered what the doctor had said about him being too proud to be a vegetable and realised it was true but thank goodness it did not come to that.

'She has missed you terribly as well as me because I have been here tending to you. She needs to see us to assure herself that she has not been abandoned'.

He considered this and nodded. Then he pushed the plate of brooth aside indicating that he was satisfied.

David came in then with Deborah who rushed to her mother and hugged her and ran to her father but stopped short. She was shocked at what she saw.

'Dad, what is wrong with you? Why is there a white thing wrapped round your neck and shoulders?'

' I fell down the stairs and thank goodness that I did not break my neck but a collar bone and another which pierced something in my neck but thank God it was not too dangerous'.

'But mum, you never told me. I would have been here earlier'.

'That's okay hon. Dad will soon get better and you are here anyway', Sharon said, patting her back. She rushed to her dad for a much deserved hug and out of nowhere, 'Was it that aunt that did this to you? Did she push you down the stairs?'

Bryan looked at them all and they shrugged, indicating that they did not know where she got that idea from.

'Don't tell me you are still remembering that aunt and her devilish ways? Because if you are, you have to forget about her'. he said lightly but there was a steel underlining his words and Sharon was surprised at the change. He was really catching on, thank goodness.

'Bryan thank goodness you decided to come back to us', David said, looking at him and seeing the magnitude of the injury he suffered from his fall.

He smiled this time.

'Sharon how did you manage it?' David asked and Sharon narrated all that happened. Bryan took over.

'I just kept hearing her voice calling out to me to stop lying helplessly while all I hold dear was taken from and my name and family wiped from existence. I didn't like the sound of it especially when I heard that Devon had already succeeded in doing away with my daughter. I was so furious that I fought the darkness around me with the last ounce of strength I had and thank God I did because the person in question was actually here wanting to do away with me and Sharon at the same time'.

'David, you said you had a visit from that person as well'.

They were calling Devon such names so that Deborah would not know the person they were talking about.

David told his story and they were all silent. The girl had indeed gone beyond redemption.

'Where is she now?' Both David and Gabriel asked.

'Where she was meant to be from the start'.

The doctors came in then to check up on his progress, gave him some drugs and injections. He fell asleep afterwards and they talked nonstop.

It took another week before Bryan was discharged to go home to his family but he would be coming for his injections or if the distance was much for him, he could register in another hospital and the doctor promised to advise the doctor on what to do.

'I shall ask my personal doctor to get in touch with you', Bryan promised.

'Better. Far better'.

As they were preparing to leave, the news came to them that Devon had committed suicide. She had used a rope she found God knows where and strangled herself. She left a note saying that she could not stay without Bryan and since he did not love nor want her, there was no reason for her to live.

Bryan felt weak. What was this Devin had done? Make him bear the guilty burden of her death?

They went to the hospital and made arrangements for her body to be taken to the morgue and they went sorrowfully home.

Where had they gone wrong? Was it too much to ask that they live in their love for each other? Or that she should get treated so that she could lead a normal fulfilled life?

'It is not your fault', Sharon tried to console him because she knew that he was tortured by guilt. 'You did all that you could for her but she was not ready for positive changes and she killed herself, you didn't kill, you did not put the rope round her neck, though she would have deserved it considering all she did to us, to you especially. You nearly died, you know'.

Bryan nodded but Sharon knew that he was not convinced but it would take a while for him to come to terms with her death. She was willing to help him overcome that unjustified guilt.
