Chapter 55: Chapter 55

Amy had forgotten what it felt like to work in a tech company.

It was a lot more tedious than one would expect, but it was what she had to do to make ends meet, especially when it was served to her on a platter of gold.

It was finally time to go home, and she was more than ready to retire.

She packed up and left the building. She was about to board a bus when she was stopped by Liam.

"Boss, what's the problem? Did you forget something?" She asked, surprised to see Liam running out of the building, calling her name.

"No, not at all...," He managed to say and took a moment or two to catch his breath when he finally caught up with her.

"Well, yes. I need to tell you something. Something very important," he said.

"Oh, what could that be?" Amy questioned.

"It's a favor actually. But first, where are you off to?" He asked.

"I'm on my way home, except you want me to do something for you at the office," she said.

"No no no, the favor has nothing to do with the office," he pointed out.

"Really, so what is it about, if I may ask?" She asked.

Liam took his time, thinking of how he should articulate his words.

This was it. He had the opportunity and chance to tell her how he truly felt about her.

If he was being honest, he hadn't stopped thinking about her, even after the court hearing. He tried to get her out of his mind by intentionally distancing himself from her and Cole. He buried himself in work, hoping he would forget about her and move on.

Hell, he tried sleeping with other women to stop thinking about her, but it just wasn't possible.

He was tired of fighting, and when he finally saw the chance to ask her back into his office, he did so at her birthday picnic.

It was nice that he finally got to see her from time to time, but his feelings for her doubled. He wanted to hold her close. He wanted to see her smile. He didn't know how long he could keep holding out.

"First of all, I want to apologize for the nasty thing I did at the court hearing. I swear it's not who I am. I did it for my friend, and I know that's not an excuse-"

"Liam, I told you already. I'm not mad at you. If I was, I wouldn't have bothered taking you up on your offer," she told me.

"Okay. I'm happy to hear that," I replied with a smile.

"Is that what you wanted to tell me?"

"Well, no... I wanted to tell you that..."

Why couldn't he bring himself to say that he had feelings for her?

His wolf was ridiculing him weeks ago for not going after what he wanted. Where was he, now that he needed him? Why was he reclining at the back of his head, instead of cheering him on?

From the conversation he had with Cole, they were not a thing. She only bore a child for him, nothing more. He could still ask her out, right?

After all, he was the one who urged him to go after what he wanted.

"Liam? Your silence is making me confused. What's the problem?" Her question took him out of his head.

He sighed and closed his eyes.

"I just wanted to tell you that I have feel-"

The screeching sound of a car made the rest of his sentence inaudible to Amy.

He opened his eyes to see Cole's SUV in front of them. He watched as Cole got out of the car with a smile on his face.

What was he doing here?

"Cole! What are you doing here? You didn't tell me you were coming," Amy looked surprised to see him.

"I wanted to pick you up from work, Amy. I didn't want you to go through the stress of waiting for a bus," he said.

"Really? That's thoughtful of you. I really needed the ride. Thank you so much," she appreciated.

"You know, I could come pick you up everyday, if you don't mind," he said with a smug face.

"And interrupt your busy schedule? I'll be fine, thank you. I don't want to bother you," she objected.

"I've told you countless times, Amy. You're not bothering me, so far I do it for you. You're worth every effort I can muster," he smiled.

Amy smiled back. Liam had to force a cough out of his lungs to remind them that he still existed.

"Oh, Liam. I almost did not see you there. How are you doing? How was work today?" He asked. As he spoke, he slid his arm behind Amy's waist, and pulled her closer to him.

"It... It went well," Liam simply answered.

"Are you both still busy with work? She clocked out for today, right?" He asked.

"Right," Liam answered.

"Good, cause we have an outing planned today," he announced.

"We do?" Amy turned to him, confused.

"Mm-hmm," Cole replied.

"Really? But I don't remember-"

"There's no need to remember. All we need to do now is to get you home, give you time to freshen up and take our son out to the park," he said, his eyes on Liam.

"I guess you're right," Amy shrugged.

"Okay, bro. I guess we'll talk later," Cole said.

"Yeah. Have a nice evening," Liam said and watched him open the door for Amy to get in.

Cole sent him an over-confident smile before going around the car and into the driver's seat. He had purposely did all of that just to remind Liam that something binded him and Amy together.

Liam could only watch as his best friend sped off with the girl he had feelings for.

Amy enjoyed the serenity she got from watching her son run around with the butterflies, with Cole behind her.

It'd been a long time since she felt at ease. She just wished things would continue being like this.

"You didn't tell me Liam asked you to rejoin his company," Cole voiced out.

"I didn't really see it as a big deal. Plus, I needed the job," she replied.

"Why do you need the job? I offered multiple times to pay child support, but you wouldn't take it," he complained.

"It's not only about the money, Cole. I'm not one to sit back and do nothing because there's money. I've become too used to working that I itch when I don't have anything to do," Amy explained.

"But why does it have to be at Liam's company? It could've been somewhere else. You could've come to me, and I could've connected you with any of my friends,"

"Why don't you want me to work at Liam's company?" She questioned him.

How was he going to tell her that Liam had confessed that he had feelings for her, and that he didn't trust Liam anymore?

"Hi, good evening!" A young lady with a camera approached them.

"Good evening," Amy greeted.

"I'm sorry for disturbing you. I saw your chemistry from where I stood, and I felt you both were the cutest couples I'd ever seen in a while. I make content online, and I was hoping you would allow me to take pictures of you both for free?" She asked politely.

"But we're not really a couple-"

"Yes, you can. We'd appreciate it," Cole cut Amy off immediately.

"Okay, thank you very much," she said and took some steps back to get into position.

Amy stared at Cole, confused.

"It wouldn't hurt to let the lady take pictures of us," Cole urged.

"Okay, I need you both to come close, and smile at the camera!" She instructed.

As they got close, they both felt their wolves howling in joy and excitement, like they'd just found their mates.

The lady took pictures of them in that position.

"Okay. Sir, I need you to give her a peck on her cheek," she instructed.

Cole's soft lips sent warmth throughout her entire body.

"Do you want to have dinner at my place again tomorrow?" Cole whispered mischievously in her ear, and Amy cracked up in laughter, giving the photographer a chance to take a shot of her genuine smile.

For the last picture, Cole called Tris to come over, and he was more than joyous to join the snaps.

She showed the pictures to them, after she was satisfied with what she'd taken.

"This is beautiful!!" Amy cooed.

The photographer gave them copies of the pictures and they thanked her very much.

"No, I need to thank you both. You look very beautiful together. I'm sure you both made for each other," she said with a smile, before she left. Seeing the smile on Amy's face, Cole totally forgot that the lady that just took pictures of them, was a content creator and she was definitely going to post the pictures. None of that mattered to him as he looked at Amy and Tris with happiness written all over him.
