Chapter 30: Chapter 30
A knock on the door caused Liam to break eye contact with the laptop before him, momentarily.
He looked around his office, and his eyes still needed some seconds to adjust it's colours because he'd been working on the laptop for hours. He'd been trying to code a program that he would sell got millions of dollars to a popular company in Dubai. His deadline was nearing and he didn't know if he could meet up with it.
He decided that he was going to take on the task alone instead of giving it to the programmers he employed, but they were already swamped with other jobs at this point, and he didn't want any mistakes whatsoever because this was important to him.
"Come in," he ordered when the person knocked again, reminding him that he left whoever it was waiting.
The door slowly got opened and he watched as Amy walked in.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Liam," she greeted with a smile on his face.
Liam reclined in his seat to absorb as much smiles as he could. He didn't know if she had this effect on him only, but her smile always managed to soothe him. It didn't matter what negative state he was in - whether he was angry, tired - it didn't matter. The dimples that showed up whenever she curled her pink lips got him weak and quenched whatever bad feeling he had.
He could feel his wolf drooling stupidly over her.
"Get a hold of yourself, silly!"
"Good afternoon, Amy. How are you doing today?" He managed to reply her.
"I'm doing well. You called for me?"
He closed his eyes and took some breathing sessions.
This was his moment. It was now or never.
He remembered Cole's words to him two days ago, "what could go wrong? And other hand, you'll never know if she actually has feelings for you if you never ask...,"
"Mr. Liam? Are you still here-"
"What are you doing for the rest of the day?" Liam asked.
"Sir?" She asked. She probably didn't hear him well.
"What are you doing for the rest of the day?" He repeated.
"Nothing much. Although it's just some hours past twelve, I'm done with all the tasks for today, except one pops up now. Still I'm planning on waiting till closing time. Then, I can go home and be with my son"
"Oh? That's... That's good to know"
"If I may ask, sir... Why do you ask?"
"Well, it's because I wanted to..."
"Come on, Liam! You can do it!" His wolf motivated him. Why did he want this more than Liam himself?
"I wanted to..."
"Open your mouth and say something! Stop being a coward," his wolf yelled at him more aggressively.
"I wanted to tell you that..."
"What the hell is wrong with your tongue?! Tell her what you want!!" His wolf kept pushing him.
"Look, you can do it. Just tell her that-"
"I called you to tell you that you can have the day off," Liam blurted.
"What?!!!" His wolf screamed in shock.
Amy looked surprised.
"But you've given me almost two weeks worth of days off, and it's barely a month since you gave me this job. I... I don't think I can-"
"Come on. I insist. After all, there's nothing else to do. And besides, you need to go see your son. You can go," he said.
"But-"
"No buts, Amy. You can go home. You've done a good job today. Thank you," he said.
"Thank you so much, sir. I really appreciate. I guess I'll take my leave then," she curtsied and headed for the door.
"Oh, and I forgot to ask...," She turned back.
"How's your day going?" She asked.
"My day? It's the usual. Either I kill this task, or this task kills me. I have a deadline and I'm not leaving this office till I'm done"
"You like you need the day off more than I do," she chuckled lightly.
"Hey! Don't mock me!" Liam pouted, and they shared a laugh.
"All I'm saying is that, you need to take care of yourself too. The gigs are still going to be there. You shouldn't kill yourself over them. I'm may not know much, but I admire your working spirit. You're doing well, and you should make out time for yourself," she advised him.
Even though he knew he wasn't going to heed to her advice, he was relieved that there was someone who cared about him.
But, did she really care about him?
"You still have a chance! Make your shot! The door is not completely shot!" He heard his wolf begin to push him again.
"Amy?"
"Yes, Mr. Liam?"
Silence ensued for sone seconds, Amy just as expectant as his wolf as to what he would say next.
"What's the name of your son?"
"Shit," his wolf cussed in disappointment.
"Oh, I didn't tell you? His name is Tristan. It's an Ireland name. I just loved it, so I gave it to him," she explained with a bright smile.
"Why did that name sound familiar?" Liam thought to himself.
"That's a really nice name. Send my greetings to him when you get home," Liam replied.
"Okay, then. Have a good day, Mr. Liam," she said and took her leave.
Liam opened his mouth to stop her once again, but he could only watch as she exited his office.
"Pussy," his wolf muttered.
"Hey!! That's not a nice thing to say to your human!!"
"You obviously like the lady. Why then are you stuttering when you want ask her out?"
"I don't know, maybe because-"
"Because you're a pussy! A coward! That's what you are!!" His wolf shut him up.
"You really need to get a hold of yourself"
"What could possibly go wrong? The worst she can say is that she's not interested. Why couldn't just ask her out? What you ended up doing was to ask her stupid questions and send her home"
"They were not stupid questions. They were important. Plus, the pressure you put on me contributed to m bailing. What did you expect me to do when you were constantly in my ear?"
"Oh, so it's my fault now? I'm so ashamed of you," his wolf muttered and reclined to the back of his head.
"Thanks you making me feel like shit," Liam rolled his eyes.
"You're welcome. Anytime."
"I wish I could send a petition to the Moon Goddess to change my wolf," Liam mumbled as he forced himself back to work.
