Chapter 12: Chapter 12

CHAPTER TWELVE

Roxanne

Alpha Ryker?

I sucked in my breath afraid to make the slightest noise as I heard him walk in. I was terrified of his presence. Even in the dark his aura was oppressive. He made me want to sprint and hide. Good thing I was in a corner where he could barely see me.

Ryker strolled into the cell with an air of dominance. “What's all this incessant racket, woman? One would think a banshee had taken residence down here.”

I jumped when a spider fell into the chemise of my dress. God forsaken creatures.

“You're just going to hide from me?” He demanded.

“I'm scared,” I said, my voice merely a whisper.

“On your feet,” He instructed.

I went silent again. There was no way I could get on my feet. My ankle was injured.

“Listen! If there's something I hate it's silence and disobedience. You may not be able to survive here little fly,” He reached for my neck.

I gasped out in shock as his fingers closed around my small neck. He applied so much pressure I was scared I was either going to die or the bones in my neck would crack.

How did he find my neck in the dark?

“You can't tell me you lost your voice just now,” He whispered. “I heard all that shrieking. If you don't speak up I will apply a little pressure and soon you'll be a lifeless piece of sac.”

I throttled.“I'm scared.”

“Of me?” He said in a voice that conveyed an incredulous amount of shock.

“No.”

He hesitated and let go of my neck, “You're not scared of me?”

Something about the way he said it sent shivers down my spine. I felt something prod the corner of my neck.

Pointy and cold.

I didn’t need to touch it to know what it was. He prodded my neck with it again harder, “Here. That was where you stabbed him.”

“Alpha please,” I whispered with urgency in my tone.

He scoffed and pushed the blade into my skin. “Was that how he pleaded with you?”

I whimpered as blood trickled down my neck. He was going to kill me.

“If you're not scared of me,” He said, “what are you scared of?”

“Spiders,” I sobbed. “They're everywhere. I can't stand them.”

He chuckled, “Oh. You didn't like my little present?”

“What?” I inquired in dismay and shock.

The light came on again and I could see his features properly. He watched me intently. Our eyes locked for a while before I averted my gaze from his when I saw his gaze drop to my lower lip.

“You sound displeased,” He tsked. “You're such a scaredy cat for someone who knows how to take life.”

“They're not the same,” I blurted out again as I tried to hide behind him.

If there was something that was going to get me killed, it had to be this damn mouth of mine.

“Oh?” He said, watching me with curious eyes. “So killing someone is more easy than staying in a room full of these,” He motioned to the spiders.

I gulped, darting my eyes everywhere but avoiding his gaze.

“Answer me,” He growled.

I shook my head vigorously.

“No, no I didn't mean to say that. I… I don't like spiders.”

He eyed me with a mixture of amusement and disdain. “That's the longest you've ever said since you came here.”

I pouted.

“Spiders, you say? How quaint! They are merely creatures of the dark, much like yourself.”

“Please,” I whispered, my voice unstable. “Please get me out of here Alpha. I can't take it anymore.”

He leaned in closer, his breath caressing my skin, leaving it warm while his words dripped with malice. “And why should I grant you such a request? You've proven yourself to be quite the nuisance, disturbing my peace with your incessant shrieking.”

I lowered my head, my pulse racing fast as I spoke. “If this is your way of torturing me, I'm sorry I killed him but you win.”

He laughed sarcastically like I had just said the dumbest thing he had ever heard since his existence. I went beet red in the face.

“Torture,” He said slowly and pressed the blade of the knife on my throat and slid it down.

He repeated the action and watched as I cringed in fear of his next move. He relished in my fear while I watched as the knife slid down and glided up my throat.

Then he stopped.

In a husky voice he whispered, “If I was torturing you, you wouldn't make it this far to plead with me.”

“I'll do anything, Alpha, just please don't leave me here with these things,” I blurted out before I could stop myself.

For a while Ryker paused and I could hear him breathing heavily. He locked eyes with me and I felt hot, so hot I thought I was going to pass out.

My mouth went dry at the strange expression on his face. Had I provoked him again?

As if in response, he reached out to stroke my collarbone, gulping hard as he trailed his fingers down.

I went stiff. I watched his fingers go lower and stop just above my cleavage.

I backed away, unable to deal with the situation we were in. How did he make my heart throb in fear and excitement at the same time? He stirred up emotions within me, most of which was fear.

Chuckling darkly, Ryker yanked me by the arm roughly and pulled me closely to himself.

“What is the price you're willing to pay, if I let you out?”

***

RYKER

Her scent invaded my senses. She smelled delicious and I caught a whiff of her scent— passion fruit. Her scent brought my wolf close to the surface and I couldn't help but stare at her.

Her pouty lips and innocent wide eyes.

I crashed her into the wall and a soft moan escaped her lips. My minty breath fanned her face and I watched her flutter her eyelids. She was beautiful and as much as I tried to keep my emotions in check, whenever I was around her my wolf was untamed.

I watched her expression go blank and then she seemed to drift as if in thoughts. With each sigh she heaved, her chest rose and fell and all I could think of was how plump and soft they were.

I shook my head to get the image out of my mind but it was tough with her in front of me. She was beautiful and I was sure our pups would look great but that wasn't enough.

Fuck she didn't even know we were mates!

Anger flooded my veins as it occurred to me. One I couldn't suppress.

I couldn't mate with her. A weak Luna was nothing but a weak link that other packs with intentions of expanding their territory exploited to attack the red moon.

I never asked for a mate. I never wanted one but the moon goddess had sent me an helpless one who was nothing but a stain to my pack.

“What… what do you mean, Alpha?” She asked in confusion.

I smirked but my expression remained solemn.“Everything comes with a price tag. You don't think I would offer such a favour, do you?”

She stared at me wide eyed but remained silent.

“You have a few minutes to decide whilst the night is still young,” I said.

After a while, she lowered her gaze, her voice soft. “I… I have nothing Alpha.”

I raised an eyebrow. Irritated at her response. “How disappointing. I had hoped for a more brilliant response, little fly.”

I was furious.

I reluctantly pulled myself off her, releasing her from the hostage I had put her in.

“Do you even have anything to offer? You're scared and weak. Worse still you have no wolf! You can't sense anything. What sort of pup are you?”

She whimpered and clutched her ankle, pain clouding her features as she sobbed.

“What is it?” I asked, my voice softening as I watched her recoil from me, still clutching her leg.

She shook her head.

I grabbed her wrists and took her to the bed.

“Show me.”

She shook her head, “it's nothing.”

“Yet it makes you screw your mouth and contort your face. It's indeed nothing.”

I reached for her leg and reluctantly placed it on my lap and I couldn't help but observe how nicely shaped it was and smooth.

“Where are you hurt?”

She snatched her leg and turned to me, “I'm fine.”

“You can't treat yourself if you're hurt,” I pointed out. “Show me where you're hurt.”

She shook her head.

Why was she so stubborn?

I clenched my fists till my nails dug into my palms.

“Woman, I didn't come here to play games. First you won't stop screaming, now you won't say anything,” I grumbled. “Would you let me or would you have me get the guards to force it out of your mouth?”

She didn't say a word but the expression on her face gave it away that she was displeased. After much persuasion, she gave up and finally sat beside me.

She crossed her arms on her chest and pouted. I hated to admit it but she looked cute when she was annoyed.

“My ankle,” She muttered, “it's twisted.”

I nodded, “How? You were fine earlier. Was it the guards?”

She shrugged, “I fell.”

I was curious to find out what led to that but I didn't probe. I didn't care about her or what happened to her.

Or did I?

I was never going to find out.

“It's going to hurt,” I said, “Sit tight.”

She closed her eyes and held onto my hands. Deftly I adjusted the bones and put them in the right position.

The way my mother had taught me. When I was younger.

When I was done, I pushed her legs off and headed for the cell door. I needed to be away from this woman. I still didn't know what to do with her.

At least not yet.

I was about to storm out when she called out to me.

“Alpha Ryker?”

I stopped in my tracks, refusing to spare her a glance.

“Thank you,” She said gratefully.

I shrugged. “Don't thank me yet. The night is still young and there are many games left to be played.”
