Chapter 93: Chapter 93
Charlotte agreed!
Charlotte agreed to meet the red-eyed wolves with Azraiel being present there!
Azraiel thought she’d want to meet them alone but she agreed without a question, and he was glad.
Azraiel was fucking glad that she didn’t fight him on this.
He had communicated with the red-eyed wolves and they agreed to meet in the woods outside the pack borders tomorrow, not in Azraiel’s territory and neither in theirs.
Azraiel was slightly worried about what he’d find there but he wasn’t going to tell Charlotte that.
Theo, Katya and Azraiel have been reading books after books and journals after journals to find something useful. Till now they haven’t found that directly gives them any information about Charlotte’s situation but there have been instances of hybrids all over the centuries. Some of them were scary, some not. There was another thing that came to light.
The red-eyed creatures!
Azraiel hadn’t heard about them before in his lifetime. But, like Kira’s father’s journal described, there have been similar occasions around that time. Someone would see these strange creatures or humans and the next second they’d vanish. What’s more interesting is that similar strange happenings took place in the human world too. Sure they could be witches but the incidents described events that were usually not the ones that witches get involved in. After hours of reading and making notes, they came to a conclusion.
All these strange events took place after one major event.
The murders and rapes by Emmanuel Reed, the Alpha of the Black Onyx pack!
It just can’t be a coincidence!
Azraiel has his theories regarding the same but he kept them to himself for now. There’s absolutely no point in speculating and putting yourself in overthinking mode.
As he watched the sun go down, a million thoughts raced through Azraiel’s mind. The quest to uncover the secrets started with Charlotte’s past, but now it has reached one of the biggest events in werewolf history. Until a few days ago, they were trying to hunt her uncle down and understand her past and now they knew for a fact that her uncle stood no chance in front of any supernatural. They even speculated foul play by the people at the H.O.P.E. Mission but found nothing. Instead, everything they have uncovered till now has been nothing like they could have imagined.
As the darkness took over the sky, Azraiel acknowledged the sinking feeling that maybe what they are about to know is going to fucking blow their minds!
*******
Kira looked at the plate in front of her with a heavy heart. She didn’t feel sick but she knew she wasn’t healthy too. She has been a Head Warrior for a few years now and has seen enough unhealthy people to know that she just wasn’t healthy.
She wasn’t injured, she doesn’t have any disease and yet she wasn’t happy.
She was lonely, sad and depressed.
Kira knew it. She acknowledged it!
But did she do anything about it?
NO.
Lord knows she has tried to survive, but after some time elapsed after the incident that shook her world, she just stopped trying! She let the hurt seep into her heart and mind and every fucking cell of her body.
The only thing that kept her sane all these years was her role as the Head Warrior of the Blue Orchid Pack. She threw herself into her job, became a workaholic and started thinking only and only about the job and nothing else. A job is supposed to be a part of your life but she made this job her whole life. She let this job become her identity. It has come to the point where she knows who the Head Warrior of the Blue Orchid pack is but she has no fucking idea who Kira Mathews is!
She pushed away the plate and gulped down the whiskey. She has finished over half the bottle now. She knew she wasn’t drunk but she surely wasn’t at her sharpest at this point.
As she started walking up the stairs, she felt she might have been wrong about the being drunk part as she stumbled twice and almost fell while climbing a total of twelve stairs. She has been feeling more vulnerable, sad and disheartened ever since she got to know that Charlotte is her Alpha’s mate!
She knows it’s wrong!
She is her Luna and Kira should be happy for her Alpha and Luna, but she isn’t.
Kira blames it on her broken heart. Alpha asked her to help Matt train Charlotte today and she got to spend some time with her for the first time. Charlotte is actually kind and sweet but at the same time quick and sharp. If she wasn’t feeling so much jealousy towards her, then maybe Kira and Charlotte would become great friends.
But was it possible right now?
Hell, no!
Kira wasn’t in the right mental state and she has no idea whom to talk to about this. Usually, people either go to the doctor or the Luna in other packs. But right now, their Luna was busy preparing to keep herself alive and Kira’s pride just wouldn’t let her visit the doctor.
Pulling the pocket night out from beneath her pillow, she quietly went inside the bathroom. She put the tap on to fill it with hot water and started undressing. Soon, the bathroom was filled with steam coming from the extremely hot water in the tub. She tested the temperature of the water with her finger and climbed in the scalding hot water with the pocket knife clutched in her hand.
A hiss came out of her mouth as the steaming water burned her skin. She turned red from head to toe. Turning her head towards the ceiling she closed her eyes, relishing in pain, and leaned back.
Kira stayed like that for a few minutes with her upper body leaning against the edge of the tub and eyes closed. Just grateful that her mind was now focused on this pain and not the pain that she has been carrying for years.
After a few minutes, she opened her eyes and straightened a bit. Kira popped her leg such that a small part of her thighs was out of water. Flipping open the pocket knife, she slashed a cut just above her knee- and then made several small cuts around it. She made similar cuts below her knee and didn’t stop until her whole leg was covered in blood.
Kira didn’t wince at this pain. She was becoming used to it and was afraid that she’d have to find out another solution.
She made similar cuts on her other leg. Within seconds the blood started dripping down her thighs and the tiny droplets mixed with the steaming water. Kira then put her left hand in front of her and was about to cut her wrist when she heard her wolf.
“Please don’t do this. Please!” She sounded weak and sad; just like Kira.
“Relax, I’m not going to kill myself!” Kira said numbly and proceeded to make a cut on her arm, above the elbow.
“Pl..please…you are drunk!” Her wolf pleaded again.
Kira ignored her this time and slashed another cut below her elbow. She made many small cuts on her arm just like she has made on her legs.
She could hear the quiet whimpers of her wolf but she ignored it- or maybe she was just too drunk to notice it.
She put the knife in her shaking left hand. It almost slipped through her fingers but she caught it in time. The water has turned crimson now. A slightly pink shade that she’d love to wear a dress in, she smiled to herself.
Pretty! This color will look good on her!
Actually, she knows red looks good on her!
“Yeah, red looks good on me!” She slurred at the words and smiled, showing her teeth.
Still smiling, she put the knife with her shaking hand on her right arm and started making the cuts.
Kira winced as she unwillingly made a deep cut just above her elbow, but when she saw the blood dripping from her arm and mixing with the water, she relaxed.
She made more small cuts on her right arm. She doesn’t know if it was alcohol or the fact that this was the first time she was cutting her right arm with her left one, but the cuts on her right hand were way deeper to be healed just by her weak wolf.
In her intoxicated state, Kira didn’t realize that this wasn’t just like she has been doing all these days. She didn’t realize that the cuts were getting deeper and deeper and the color of the water in the tub wasn’t the lighter shade she was used to anymore. It was way darker! She didn’t realize that in her delirious state of mind, she accidentally cut the vein of her right hand's wrist and that she wasn’t doing anything to stop the blood. Instead, she sat there in the tub, looking at the gushing blood mesmerized by its color.
No, she didn’t realize any of it!
Kira was just relishing in the pain that made her forget the heartbreak and sad memories. The last thing she vaguely remembers is the feeling of floating in the air and a sound that almost sounded familiar!
CHAPTER 94 | Questions?
Charlotte spent some time with Kira today and the respect she had for her grew even more. That woman was agile and quick. She was actually glad that Azraiel asked her to train Charlotte.
After they trained, they talked about the general matters and Kira narrated a few storied from her training days to boost Charlotte’s confidence and she was grateful. This evening, Charlotte baked a cake and since Kira loved the one she served her after training, she decided to give her some.
Ayleen and Charlotte walked to Kira’s house to give her the cake. It was also Charlotte’s way of making her a friend.
Ayleen knocked once and then twice when no one opened the door. The sky has turned dark a few minutes ago and Ayleen said that Kira must be home by now.
Ayleen frowned when Kira didn’t open the door on third knock while Charlotte stood there silently. Ayleen moved a step aside and pressed the doorbell.
“What’s wrong?” Charlotte asked as Ayleen’s face grew white and tense.
“I-She should’ve opened the door by now. She isn’t answering through the mindlink either.” Charlotte frowned at her answer. “Maybe she is in the shower or something.”
“I-I don’t know, Charlotte. I’m getting a weird feeling about this.” She paused and sniffed. “and it smells weird here.”
Charlotte sniffed the air and said, “Uh- I can’t smell anything different.”
“I’m mindlinking Azraiel.” Ayleen abruptly said and went silent.
Charlotte waited with a bad feeling lurching in her stomach.
“He is coming. Matt and Theo are too.” Ayleen said and pressed the doorbell again. When no one answered the door, she pulled out her cell phone and called Kira.
After a few seconds, she shook her head, “She is not answering.”
They turn around when they hear the footsteps. Matt and Theo are walking towards them in speed.
“She hasn’t opened yet?” Matt asks as they come near and Ayleen shooks her head.
Theo sniffs the air and his face goes pale.
“Matt!” He looks at him, “It’s blood!”
Matt sniffs the air and an understanding passes between them.
“Move aside!” Ayleen and Charlotte move from in front of the door and stand at the side. Charlotte starts getting worried at the mention of blood.
Matt and Theo count to three and break the door open. Charlotte looks from the outside as they don’t wait and rush upstairs.
Ayleen rushes after them too and Charlotte follows. She keeps the cake on the table and runs upstairs.
“Oh my God!” She hears Ayleen cry out before she sees anything. When she reaches where Ayleen is standing, she leans to the side to see what has happened and when she does, her heart drops in her stomach.
Matt and Theo are carrying a naked Kira out of what she assumes to be a bathroom. She is wet and covered in blood. Little drops of blood are oozing out of the cuts on her arms and legs but the blood is gushing out of the cut on her right wrist.
“Ayleen get something to cover her!” Theo shouts as they lay her naked body on the bed. Ayleen quickly runs to the closet and pulls out a blue sheet. She covers Kira with it inspects the cuts.
“I’ve mindlinked Alpha and Dr. Humphrey.” Matt says as he tries to control the bleeding by applying pressure on the wound.
Theo sprinkles some water on her face to wake her up. “Kira!” He lightly taps her cheeks. “Kira!”.
“She reeks of alcohol! I think she passed out because of that and the pain!” Theo says as he continues to try to wake her up.
“Charlotte get me the first aid from the drawer in the dressing table.” Ayleen says and Charlotte walks to the dressing table to retrieve the first aid kit.
“Here! Put some on her other leg!” Ayleen hands her some clean gauze.
Charlotte sits on the other side and starts cleaning the cuts. Her heart feels like it is out of her chest and beating in her ears. She can’t believe what she is seeing and what suggestions her brain is making as to what could have happened here.
She seemed fine just hours ago, Charlotte thinks to herself.
“Why the fuck is she not healing?” Theo mutters in frustration as he cleans her left hand.
“Her wolf is really weak!” Matt answers.
They hear footsteps and immediately hear Dr. Humphrey’s voice. She came with a nurse carrying a huge brown box.
Matt and Theo immediately move away as she makes her way to her right hand.
“Oh, Kira!” Dr. Humphrey mutters, clearly upset but quickly starts controlling the bleeding, while the nurse opens the box and hands her what she needs. Charlotte and Ayleen continue to clean her legs while Dr. Humphrey treats her hand. The nurse takes a blood sample and checks her breathing and pulse.
When she catches both Matt and Theo staring at her she answers, “It’s okay. Shell be alright! She just passed out because of the blood loss. I’ve asked a nurse to bring blood bags so that we could compensate for the loss of blood.” Everyone in the room sighs in relief as soon as she says that Kira is going to be okay.
The room is silent and the tension in the air is thick as Dr. Humphrey and the nurse treats Kira’s wounds. After a few minutes, they hear another set of footsteps on the stairs and Charlotte immediately knows it’s Azraiel.
As soon as his eyes and on Kira, his jaw clenches and Charlotte can’t decide if he is angry or tensed.
“How is she?” He directs the question at Dr. Humphrey and she looks at him with a sort of look in her eyes.
“She’ll be fine, Alpha but her wolf is really weak. I’d say that she needs to be hospitalized but we both know that won’t work with Kira. So, I’ve instructed people to make the necessary arrangements here!” She continues treating the wounds while saying that.
Azraiel just nods and stares at Kira for a few seconds.
Charlotte feels like there is an understanding between everyone in the room but her. It’s like they all know something that she doesn’t and even though she doesn’t wish to know everything, it feels like she is the only one panicking internally while everyone has calmed down significantly.
“I’ll stay with her here!” Ayleen says abruptly looking at Charlotte and then at Azraiel. Azraiel nods at her and Charlotte does the same.
“Theo and I will stay downstairs.” Matt says to Azraiel and there it is again. The look that says they know why all of this happened.
“Tell me what I can do to help?” Charlotte asks Ayleen in a low voice.
“For now, nothing! But-Maybe you can bring breakfast in the morning?” Ayleen asks her quietly and Charlotte agrees without missing a beat.
Finally, Azraiel looks at her. He motions his head to outside and goes out. Charlotte follows him without asking anything. They go downstairs and out of the house.
“I’ll stay here for a while. Can you make arrangements for everyone’s dinner? I- don’t want anyone to know about this.” Azraiel asks her.
“Of course! Let me know if anything is needed here!” She says to him and begins to leave but he stops her and engulfs her in a hug.
Charlotte breathes in his scent to calm her nerves down.
“Tell me when the food is ready. I’ll come to pick you.” He says as he breaks the hug and Charlotte gives him a sad smile.
“Don’t worry!” She rubs his arm. “She’ll be alright!”
Azraiel nods, “She is strong!”
Charlotte starts walking back after she gives him a reassuring look, but all the way to the home several questions pop one after another in her head.
Did Kira try to end her life?
It didn’t look like an accident?
Why do they all seem so accepting of this incident?
Why did they not take her to the hospital?
And, why does Azraiel not want anyone to know about this incident?
And, most importantly, What the hell could have happened that pushed the Head Warrior of one of the largest packs in the world to take this step?
