Chapter 79: Chapter 79

Kira absentmindedly chewed on her sandwich. She didn’t get any sleep last night, thinking about the very thing that was going through her mind right now.

Charlotte is Alpha Azraiel’s mate.

That human girl is Azraiel’s mate.

What the hell?

Yesterday, when Theo blurted it out in the packhouse, she couldn’t believe her ears. Talk about destiny!

Everyone in the werewolf world had long ago accepted that Truebloods would be mateless forever, but now it turns out that they indeed have a mate.

It wasn’t the fact that she was Azraiel’s mate that troubled Kira but that she was the last one to know.

You know that’s not true. Her wolf said and she ignored her.

Does her Alpha not trust her enough to keep her Luna safe?

She knows that the situation was complicated with Charlotte and he might have kept it a secret for her own good, but it still stung, especially when she had kept her Alpha on a pedestal.

You shouldn’t think about him like that! Her wolf scolded her lightly.

He has a mate and so do you! Stop thinking about him as anything else but your Alpha! Her wolf was angry and rightfully so.

She wasn’t in love with Azraiel, she knew that very well. But, still the thought of seeing him with someone else pierced a knife in her heart and she knew it was wrong. She didn’t have feelings for him forever but it all started when her worthless mate left her. She was on the brink of committing suicide but Azraiel brought her back from the darkness. He checked in on her daily, even making Theo and Matt involve her in the administrative work so that they could keep an eye on her. Even his sister, Ayleen became her best friend of sorts during that period. His kindness and thoughtfulness made her see him in a different light altogether. She didn’t even realize when she started having feelings for her Alpha. She never even cared much for her feelings, dismissing them as admiration and respect; until now.

She should be happy, ecstatic even that they have found their Luna. Their Alpha has finally found his mate and could be happy now and yet, she couldn’t find it in herself to join her wolf in this happiness.

Then try! fucking try harder, Kira! Her wolf screamed at her.

I can feel our Luna’s immense power even in her human form. You’ll be a fool to go against her! Her wolf warned her.

I have no intention of going against her, she replied.

I am no one to mess with the Moon Goddess’ wish. Don’t I know what happens when one messes with the mate bond?

A tear escaped her eye as an image of her mate flashed in her mind and with that came the never-ending pain.

She quickly wiped her face and finished her sandwich. Gathering her stuff, she scanned her room to see if she wasn’t leaving anything behind…

And her eyes fell on her father’s journal she had taken out a few days ago. A shiver ran down her spine as something clicked in her mind.

Leaving everything behind, she rushed towards the journal and opened the page she had bookmarked that day. She quickly clicked pictures of the journal entries that her father made years ago and mailed them to Alpha Azraiel, writing a short explanation as to what were they. She closed the journal and put it in her pack. She’ll have to show this to Azraiel and ask everyone to look for incidents around that time.

Except for the red eyes, the incident has so many similarities to those creatures lurking around and this can definitely not be a coincidence!

************

Azraiel was looking through the footage from the lake to see if those creatures have taken his letter or not. The letter was still there, unopened and none of them had come near the lake after yesterday.

A notification popped on his screen signaling that he had a new email. It was from Kira. His eyebrows scrunched in confusion. They usually use mindlink to converse. He quickly opened the mail. It had two pictures and he clicked on them after reading the text.

“These are from my father’s journal from 1971. I think this might help us.” It read.

The first picture showed a journal entry of the date 17th December 1971 and he read it in one ago. As soon as he started reading it, he knew what she was talking about. He quickly printed the two pictures and read them over and over again.

Yes, this could definitely help.

Following Kira’s lead, Azraiel too pulled out his father’s journal of that time. He mindlinked Matt and Theo to do the same. It wasn’t even minutes later that Theo barged into his office with a diary in his hand.

He placed it on the table and, “Here, I have already checked all of my father’s journals but there is nothing worth spending time on. But why all of a sudden?” He sat down on the chair.

Azraiel said nothing but handed him the printouts of the pictures that Kira sent him. He watched as Theo’s brows arched in surprise.

“When did you start reading the old journals?” Azraiel asked curiously.

“When I first met her.” He replied without hesitation.

The green-headed jealousy raised its head again. Theo must have definitely felt something if he started researching as soon as he met Charlotte. But what? Azraiel was dying of curiosity but he didn’t ask Theo anything more.

“I don’t have all of my mother’s journals at home. I even checked at the packhouse but they weren’t here.” Theo said.

Azraiel nodded. “Yeah, A lot of my father’s journals are missing too and you know my mother didn’t like journaling.”

“Should I ask Aunty Caitlyn?” Theo asked with a wince.

Aunt Caitlyn was his mother’s sister and the Luna of Golden Forest pack. Years ago, rogues attacked their pack in search of information related to the King and his family since the Blue Orchid pack was then the only pack closest to the royal family at that time. His father then to avoid any such occurrence actually transferred all the important papers as well as his journals to Aunty Caitlyn’s pack because it was simply the last place where rogues would dare to go. Her father-in-law was actually the Beta of the King at that time and as a result, enjoyed excess security at his pack which was located in another continent altogether. He even sent his mother and sister to the Golden Forest pack when Azraiel’s father was murdered. That pack was that safe and secure. The current head coordinator is the brother-in-law of Aunty Caitlyn.

He could ask his aunt to send the journals but then he’d have to tell her everything and explain why he didn’t tell her everything sooner. He’d surely get an earful from her. Hell, he is sure she’d come here herself to meet his mate and start embarrassing him in front of Charlotte. Also, telling her would mean telling the Head Coordinator and as a head coordinator, Daniel Scott would have no other choice but to declare to the werewolf world that the Trueblood has found his mate. He could actually make a list within the next thirty seconds of who would want to harm his mate in order to capture the Blue orchid pack.

Azraiel shook his head. No. He can’t afford that.

He picked up his laptop again and opened the Royal Schedule. It has been a month since they found Charlotte, which was on the day of their last meeting. He scrolled down to check the date of this month’s meeting.

It was two days from today.

Great!

Azraiel formed a plan in his head. Every meeting is supposed to last two days, which would be more than sufficient to snoop through the Royal Library and gather information about anything that happened in 1971. The Royal Library is indeed considered the library of libraries, being the biggest treasure of books in the werewolf world. He just hopes that what he needs didn’t get burned down in the fire that took place 23 years ago.
