Chapter 143: Chapter 143
Theo lifts his head a little, his eyes shine with unshed tears. He looks straight into the black wolf’s eyes and says,
“Alpha!”
All eyes are on the black wolf as Theo keeps kneeling down.
Azraiel’s eyes play ping pong, shifting between his Gamma and his mate. Why the hell is his Gamma calling Charlotte ‘Alpha’ instead of ‘Luna’?
With his breath stuck in his throat, Azraiel watches as after looking at Theo for about a minute the black wolf trudges forward and licks his cheeks, wiping the tears now streaming down from his eyes.
What in the name of hell is happening?
Theo bows his head and cries softly.
Without another glance at him, the black wolf steps aside to stand in front of Azraiel.
Pushing the scene, he saw before to the back of his mind, Azraiel leans down to hug his mate. His nostrils flare as her intoxicating scent enters his nose. Mhmm…Much more powerful and strong.
His wolf’s relief is evident as his mate rubs her muzzle in his neck, marking him with his scent. He plants a sloppy kiss on her head and brushes his knuckles on her face lovingly.
His mate, his strong and stunning mate.
He unwillingly lets go of her when he feels her pulling back.
“Azraiel?” His breathing stops as he hears her voice in his mind. It’s still her voice but a bit different. He can’t explain it but it’s definitely different.
“Yes, love?” He says tenderly.
“Go back to the packhouse with them. I’ll be there once my pack settles down. Their emotions are running wild right now. I don’t want anything to happen. I promise I’ll explain everything.”
Something in his heart constricts as he listens to her. Nevertheless, he looks at her and nods.
“Don’t be too late. I’ll be waiting.”
He swears she smiles at him.
He quickly looks at Theo and Katya and says, “Let’s go back. We should give them some time to rest.”
Katya nods and immediately starts following him, as do the other warriors.
However, Theo doesn’t.
He looks at Charlotte for approval and it is only when she nods at him that he starts walking after giving one last look to Samantha.
It bothers Azraiel a lot more than he shows it.
It’s utterly silent as the three of them walk back to their pack. It’s like they can sense Azraiel’s sombre mood and decide to stay silent. Azraiel on the other hand is itching to ask questions. He wants to know what happened back there. It takes everything in him not to question his Gamma and best friend in front of Katya.
Once they reach the packhouse, Azraiel turns towards Katya and says, “You should go get some rest. I’ll call you if anything happens.”
Thankfully, Katya nods and leaves without saying a word.
Once she leaves, Azraiel turns to Theo and narrows his eyes, “We need to talk.”
Theo gulps but nods anyway. They quickly reach Azraiel’s office and he nods at Theo to sit in front of him.
“What happened in the woods, Theo?” Azraiel asks away while gritting his teeth.
Theo exhales shakily. This is not going to be easy.
He stays silent because he knows he needs to word this properly. He is forming his answer in his head when Azraiel stands up in frustration and slams his hands on the desk.
“Answer me, damn it.” He yells at Theo, clearly frustrated at the lack of clarity.
“Azraiel…y-you need to calm down. Let me explain.” Theo says shakily.
Azraiel pinches the bridge of his nose and slumps in his chair.
“Speak, NOW.” His voice is deadly as he looks at his best friend.
“Look, I don’t how this happened okay?” Theo begins. “When I first saw Charlotte in her wolf form, my wolf recognized her as his Alpha. Even I don’t understand how he can do that when he is already sworn in as your Gamma.” Theo releases a breath. “but-it was almost like finding my mate you know…it just clicked. I know without a doubt that she is my Alpha.” He can’t meet his friend’s eyes…he just can’t.
“Are you sure you are not confusing your affection for my mate as something else?” Azraiel snarls.
Theo’s jaw clenches at his response. “No Azraiel, I am not confusing anything for something else. I know what I felt.” His eyes soften when he looks at his best friend. “I am sorry, okay. I-I had no idea it would turn out like this but I understand it and you have to too.”
Azraiel leans back after scrutinizing his face for a minute.
No, he can’t understand it right now!
His best friend and Gamma recognize his mate as his Alpha, which means he will probably leave his pack to join hers.
Fuck!
Azraiel clenches his jaw but doesn’t say anything else.
“We’ll talk about this later.” He dismisses Theo without sparing him another look.
Theo nods and leaves, eager to get out of the room. Being Azraiel’s best friend he knows when to leave and when to stay. He’ll just wait till Azraiel talks to his mate.
Azraiel sits in silence mulling over the events of the last twenty-four hours. A lot has happened and he has a feeling shit is only getting started.
If Charlotte really recognizes Theo as her pack member then there is no one to stop him from leaving the Blue Orchid pack at any cost. Doing so would only weaken Theo’s wolf and enrage Charlotte’s and enraging Charlotte in any form is the last thing that anyone should be doing.
Sighing, he pulls out his cell phone and dials a number that was supposed to call him sometime back today.
“Anything new?” Azraiel asks, his voice unintentionally hard.
“No, Alpha. I’ve seen something other than what we are seeking but I want to be sure before I report anything.” The man on the other line responds.
Azraiel grunts in response and disconnects the call.
He has been doing some side work apart from what is known to his mate and pack members. He didn’t want to put them in danger as well as spread any kind of information willing or not. He has had his suspicions about Charlotte’s parents for a long time. Today’s events have only concreted them into strong possibilities. If everything goes in the same direction as he predicts, they will soon be hearing the past from the prime witnesses.
The sound of footsteps makes him stop stressing over the future. The scent reaches him in the next second.
A smile tugs on his lips as he stands up to welcome her.
He rushes to open the door for her to welcome her.
Before he can step out of the room to go to her, she is already in front of him.
His smile gets wider when he sees her.
He opens his arms to welcome her back. His mate in human form steps into his arms and clutches him tightly.
Breathing in his scent, she smiles into his chest.
She is home! He is her home!
