Chapter 134: Chapter 134

As the minutes go by, everyone’s anxiety starts reaching levels they never imagined.

It was around one in noon when Dr. Humphrey cleared Caleb to leave the hospital though not before warning Alpha Azraiel about his renewed strength.

Matt and Theo were heading towards the arena where Azraiel wanted Caleb to shift into his wolf.

“Do you think he could be an alpha?” Matt suddenly asks.

“Don’t know…” Theo answers as nonchalantly as he could. “What do you think?”

“I think that if he is that strong, then maybe...maybe his bloodline isn’t that watered down as we thought. It’s true that he comes from a line of wolves that were part of the Black Onyx pack who ran away but it is possible that both of his parents were wolves…maybe some high-ranking ones…!”

Theo takes in what Matt said.

It can be true!

Most of Charlotte’s pack members have a moderate or subtle aura till now. It may be due to the fact that they are unaware of their powers or it could be that one of their parents wasn’t supernaturals.

Charlotte and Kira are already there standing and talking. When they see Matt and Theo, they stop talking.

“Hey…! Are you okay now?” Theo asks Charlotte.

“Yup...” She smiles brightly easing his worries a bit.

Alpha Azraiel enters the field at that exact moment. Behind him, Caleb and Daniel walk while Daniel asks Caleb about something.

“Are you sure you will be fine?” Charlotte asks Caleb once he reaches them.

“Yeah...” He gives her a lopsided smile. “Thank you for saving me!” His eyes look sincere.

“Don’t mention it.”

“Let’s go...” Azraiel interrupts their conversation.

Charlotte frowns at Azraiel’s behaviour. He has been acting a bit strange today. She has no idea if it is because of her shift or the presence of that vampire…but now…she thinks it’s because of Caleb?

“Here’s what I want you to do… Go behind that tree…shift and then come forward and sit on the ground, okay?” Azraiel instructs Caleb.

All of them anxiously wait for him to shift and come out.

Kira and Theo have seen him as a white wolf but no one else here has seen any white wolf other than Azraiel. So, if he really turns out to be a white wolf, shit could hit the fan anytime now!

They hear the rustling of clothes and Charlotte knows that Azraiel asked him to do so for her since everyone here is already used to nakedness.

All eyes are stuck on the tree behind which Caleb is shifting.

They look at each other when they hear the thuds.

And then…

He appears from behind the tree…

One leg….

White….

Like snow….

Caleb’s wolf emerges in front of them… stark white…

A perfect contrast to the dark musky colors behind him….

Charlotte glances at Azraiel to see his jaw clenched tightly. She gently covers his fist with her palm.

He visibly relaxes and looks at her. Azraiel squeezes her hand and gives her a reassuring nod.

He walks ahead.

From one end, Caleb’s wolf walks towards them…

On the other, Azraiel walks towards Caleb…

It’s hard to tell who is the predator and who the prey…for a normal human…

But for the wolves standing here, it’s clear as water…

That young pup is nothing compared to the Trueblood...even in his wolf form.

Caleb sits down as instructed by Azraiel. His wolf is bigger than that of other wolves but still smaller than that of Azraiel’s.

Azraiel circles around the wolf like a predator inspecting his prey.

Others can’t see what’s happening but Theo and Matt give each other a look as they see him inspecting Caleb like he is a criminal.

Caleb’s yellow eyes are trained on Charlotte…not on Azraiel…but on Charlotte.

Charlotte can’t explain it to others but she understands. He is nervous…and terrified. His aura is way weaker than Azraiel’s and the close proximity must definitely be nerve-wracking. He is looking at her for support and comfort…and she will provide just that.

Charlotte doesn’t move her eyes from Caleb. She pushes her wolf to come forward and assures the young wolf that he’ll be fine and that her mate will not hurt him.

Azraiel growls when he sees their little interaction.

Theo rushes to Charlotte, “Please, don’t… don’t provoke him…he’s already on edge…”

Charlotte frowns but doesn’t look away from Caleb.

After a minute, Azraiel suddenly stops and goes behind the tree…

Kira inhales loudly, “He is shifting…”

Not even half a minute goes by when Azraiel comes from behind the tree…in all his glory…

His wolf is twice the size of Caleb’s….larger…whiter…deadlier…!

He walks and comes to stand in front of Caleb, blocking his view from Charlotte.

He nudges Caleb with his muzzle to get up and fight with him.

With her breath stuck in her throat, Charlotte watched as Caleb got up and hunched to attack Azraiel.

She knows he won’t win...he can’t win….and she also knows that Azraiel would never seriously injure him…

Yet…

She feels this isn’t right…!

Azraiel meets Caleb’s blow head-on. He doesn’t use any force and yet when the two wolves collide, the impact is so huge that Caleb is thrown halfway through the distance between them and Charlotte.

He doesn’t get up for a few seconds and all they can hear is his painful grunts.

Charlotte hopes that he wouldn’t get up and just surrender.

But, to her utter disappointment, he gets up and shakes his head…

With all his strength, he charges towards Azraiel again but crashes into the trees behind when Azraiel simply steps out of the way. They watch as his body lies limp on the ground.

Azraiel doesn’t stop there. He runs to Caleb and nudges his limp body…his growl shakes Charlotte to the core.

She knows what this is about, but she feels terrible for Caleb. She almost expects him to get up and surrender.

But he doesn’t…

He rolls and slowly gets up.

Azraiel steps back to give him some space. Caleb charges again…and this time Azraiel faces him head-on, ramming his head into Caleb’s body.

Caleb immediately falls on the ground again, and his body skids on the ground to some distance.

This time Charlotte is sure that he is hurt.

When he doesn’t get up for almost two minutes, Charlotte rushes to him and it is just as she expected. He is hurt!

While she is inspecting his wounds, Azraiel shifts into his human form and comes to stand behind her.

“He is fine, Charlotte.” He puts his hand on her shoulder.

“Give him some time to regain his strength and get up.” He gently says.

Unwilling, Charlotte gets up and backs up.

While they are waiting, Theo and others leave, giving them some privacy.

It’s not long before he gets up and shifts.

“Are you okay?” Charlotte asks as soon as he appears in front of her.

“I am fine.” He says and sheepishly looks at Azraiel.

“Do you surrender and accept Charlotte as your Alpha?” Azraiel asks Caleb in the most emotionless voice she has heard him use.

“Yes… I do.” Caleb bows and kneels.

Charlotte smiles and asks him to get up.

“Welcome to the family, Caleb!”
