Chapter 111: Chapter 111

Charlotte stares at the black sky and tries to sort out the bubble of worry floating in her heart. She closes her eyes as she hears the footsteps of her mate.

Within seconds, the door of her room opens and she is engulfed in warmth as Azraiel’s arms circle her waist. She smiles as he places a sweet kiss on her shoulder and buries his face in her neck. Her back arches and her neck move to the side as the first instinct.

They silently enjoy each other’s company as the night darkens and the stars twinkle brighter.

“What are you thinking?” Azraiel mumbles in her ear but doesn’t let her go.

Charlotte chuckles. “How do you know I am thinking?”

“I can tell.” Azraiel kisses her ear.

“I-I was thinking about the shift, Azraiel.” Charlotte sobers up. It’s better that she has this conversation with him now.

She turns in his arms and faces him. “I have a request…in case…in case I don’t make it after the shift.”

“Don’t say that.” His voice breaks as he palms her cheek.

“I have to.” She smiles sadly. “Let’s consider every possibility.”

Azraiel looks into her eyes for a few seconds and then nods.

“Thank you.” She leans into his touch. “ If-If I don’t make it…or if I am alive but unfit to rule, then I want you to do something for my pack.”

“Anything you want!” He says instantly.

“If that happens then I want you to request the werewolf council to declare my pack as an official pack and make Nicholas the Alpha.”

“Are you sure?” He looks skeptical and she can understand how that might sound.

Like she doesn’t trust him to take care of his pack.

“Those people have wandered like nomads on the land they were rightfully born. This is the first time that they have a chance of getting a land they can call their own, an identity that they have been deprived of. I know that they would benefit more from being merged into our pack, but I also know they would feel uncomfortable. I want them to have their own identity and a sense of belonging, Azraiel.” She waits for his answer and reaction.

“WE will do exactly that. We will go through your shift together and YOU will SURVIVE…and then we will apply to the werewolf council for the creation of a new pack. YOU will be their Alpha and my Luna.” He rubs his thumbs on her cheek and smiles.

Ugh..This is her favorite sight…His smile!

Charlotte leans into his touch and hugs him. They stay like that for a while on the balcony. “Come on! Let’s head in. It’s getting cold.” He says after a while.

Azraiel and Charlotte head inside and Charlotte instantly lies down on the bed. Preparing for the shift has been tiring. On top of that she has been spending her time with her new pack too. She doesn’t want to have the regret of not knowing them in case something happens during the shift.

Azraiel pulls her close as his chest touches her back.

He places a kiss on her cheek and whispers. “Sleep, Love! Tomorrow is going to be just as tiring as today.”

“Mhmm...” Charlotte mumbles and drifts off to sleep.

The night becomes silent as every creature has retired to their home. The sky is dark. Azraiel’s house is eerily quiet. Charlotte and Azraiel are fast asleep. Ayleen is at Kira’s.

Everything looks normal…just another night!

But it isn’t!

In Azraiel’s room, the only sound is that of the mates’ breathing.

Charlotte stirs in her sleep and turns on her back. Her eyes flutter open and she sleepily looks around in the dark. She blinks her eyes a few times and tries to go back to sleep. She has no idea what made her wake up but she really didn’t want to wake up.

For a few minutes Charlotte lies there on the bed, not sleeping but not awake either.

“Wake up!” A voice whispers in her ear.

Even in sleep, a shiver runs down her spine!

This is not her wolf’s voice. This is not her mate’s voice.

Then…who?

“Wake up!” The voice says again.

Unwillingly, she opens her eyes and sits up. Azraiel is sleeping peacefully next to her. She glances around to see if there’s anyone else in the room beside them but sees nothing but darkness. So she leans and flips on the switch of the light.

The room lights up. She carefully glances everywhere but finds no one.

I should check the bathroom! She thinks and stands up.

Nope! No one in the bathroom. Just as she is about to go back to bed, the voice returns.

“Come out!” She glances at the door since it seems like it is coming from outside her room.

She takes a step forward to go out but her wolf stops her. “NO!”

“Don’t go, Charlotte! Wake Azraiel up!”

For once she listens. Her foot stops mid-air and she goes to Azraiel.

She touches his shoulder. “Azraiel!”

He instantly wakes up at her voice.

“Wha-What’s wrong?” He rubs his eyes and his voice is groggy. “Are you hurt?” He sits up straight and looks at her from head to toe.

“No-I am not hurt. I-I just heard a voice.”

“Voice?” Azraiel is instantly on alert.

“Yeah…it asked me to wake up and then to come out of the room. I was going to but my wolf stopped me and asked to wake you up first.” Charlotte gulps.

Ugh…why the hell does this sound so bizarre and scary when put in words?

Azraiel leaps out of bed and instantly mindlinks Theo and Matt to see pack safety. He takes Charlotte’s hand and says, “Stay behind me but don’t leave.” He takes her out of the room, walking slowly and carefully listening.

Charlotte too uses her newfound hearing ability and tries to listen for any movement in the house.

“There’s no one here...but someone was definitely here…I can feel it.” Azraiel says as they look in the house, hand in hand in every room to check for the intruder.

They find no one.

“Who do you think it was?” She asks shakily.

“No idea…but your wolf definitely sensed something strange…or else she wouldn’t have stopped you,” Azraiel says as makes her sit on the sofa.

She is about to open her mouth but it seems like he is mindlinking, so she stops.

She watches as his face changes into that of worry.

“What happened?” Charlotte asks when he looks at her.

“It was Matt…He has asked us to come near the lake.”

As soon as she hears this, she instantly starts worrying about her new pack. They have been residing on the other side of the lake.

“Let’s go.” She says.

Azraiel and Charlotte rush to the lake.

Matt and Theo are standing there on the edge of the woods. They turn when they hear them coming.

“You have to see this,” Theo says, his voice sounds like he has seen something unbelievable.

Charlotte and Azraiel look at each other and step forward. They barely take two steps and a gasp comes out of her mouth.

The sight in front of her leaves her speechless.

Across the lake, the woods are illuminated by various colored dots in pairs of two. Red, green, blue, purple, golden, silver, pink, yellow, orange…and so on…

It looks like fucking disco lights out there.

Charlotte looks confusedly at the scene in front of her….and then she notices it!

Eyes…

Those lights are eyes!

She knows it because they are moving!

The woods across the lake is filled with various species of the supernatural world with different colored eyes!
