Theo awkwardly glances here and there and tries to avoid her piercing gaze.

Charlotte was playing a game with him, he knew that. A few minutes after he realized that this girl could indeed be his mate, Charlotte instructed him to accompany Samantha and look at what is needed for their warriors. She could have chosen anyone else but she didn’t. In fact, he is sure that Nicholas has already given one such list to her.

Since his Luna asked him to do it, he will. However, he’d be lying if he said he complied solely because of that.

The girl with red eyes was the reason behind his compliance...

She is walking in front of him, just one step ahead. He can smell her. Her smell is strong and musky.

He was expecting her to shout at him, to scream and ask why he didn’t recognize her as a mate. But she didn’t. She kept walking till they were away from the prying ears of others.

And then she turned.

Theo’s breath got stuck in his throat as his eyes clashed with hers.

Red…bright red and yet he could see the dark brownish lining of the iris.

“These are the weapons the Head sent us over these years.” She gestures towards the pathetic excuse of weapons.

Theo frowns. No one could defend themselves with these. These weapons are useless and outdated, even more so considering the technology humans are equipped with these days.

Even if he was thinking about the weapons, his wolf was whining. Why is she not asking us about the mate thing?

“These weapons are useless. I’ll make a list according to what is needed to protect your pack from the attackers. Do women also fight in your pack?” He asked.

Do you fight? He wanted to ask.

“Yeah. We didn’t have any other option.” She shrugs one shoulder nonchalantly.

Theo nods in understanding. She must have had a tough life. They all must have. Hiding and moving constantly, not knowing who they are and what they are.

But……she knows what mates are…everyone wolf does….

Then why the fuck is she behaving like she has not felt anything?

Wait…

Maybe she really didn’t feel anything….

But…that can’t be right…

His wolf was sure the first time he saw her and he is sure today, it was Theo who was refusing to believe that she could be his second chance mate.

Then how….why?

Oh Moon….Will she think I am pathetic if I ask her about this? Theo wonders.

Okay..screw it… Here goes nothing!

“Did you not feel it?” He asks abruptly making her freeze in the midstep.

Theo’s eyes don’t leave her face, carefully scrutinizing every expression, every movement.

She doesn’t look up for a few seconds and he almost starts beating himself up for asking the question.

But then she looks straight into his eyes.

“I- I did.” She exhales and looks away. “When you didn’t react that day, I assumed you didn’t feel anything.” She sounds confused as hell and rightfully so.

God, Theo is such an ass!

He made her believe that it was only her who felt the mate pull.

“No..I-I am sorry.” Theo apologizes, feeling bad at the sadness in her eyes.

“I felt the pull that day, but I just refused to believe it was possible.” He mutters.

She scrunches her brows. “Am I your second chance mate?” She asks, her voice unwavering and bold.

Theo exhales loudly. Thank God she deduced it herself because he was going to have a hard time telling her that.

“Yeah…!” He answers.

“What happened to her?” She asks sympathetically.

“She was a rogue... One amongst those who attacked my pack eleven years ago. She died during the battle.” Theo answered. He was telling the truth, just not the whole truth.

“Oh…I am really sorry.” She sounded and looked genuinely sorry and he just wanted to pull her to his chest.

“It’s okay. It’s been a long and I didn’t really know her. In fact, I doubt she realized anything during the battle.” He tries to soothe her worries.

He really didn’t know his first mate. All he knows is that she was a rogue. A rogue who killed her father while her friend pushed him down. A rogue his best friend and Alpha killed in revenge for the loss of his pack. A rogue who realized that he was her mate and yet proceeded to kill his father right in front of his eyes.

Samantha nods at Theo’s answer.

“So..you are my mate?” she speaks and he knows she wants to just confirm.

“I am.” Theo answers sheepishly.

“Cool.” She acts as if she doesn’t care but he can see a hint of a smile on her face.

“You can join my pack if you want to.” He says.

Please, join my pack. He wants to say.

“We’ll see.” She says. “I don’t want to take any decision until the Alpha’s shift.”

Theo’s wolf is about to growl but he suppresses him. His wolf wants to just mark her right away and take her with him.

As much as he wants to do the same, he can’t.

He’ll have to respect her wish.

“Okay. But you are free to visit anytime you want and of course..um I’ll love to visit if you don’t have any problem.” Theo rubs his neck and he is sure his ears have turned pink by the way she looks like she is suppressing her laughter.

“Sure.” She smiles instead. “ You can visit any time, just ask the Alpha first.”

“Ask me what?” Charlotte interrupts them and Theo narrows his eyes at her.

But in reality, he is grateful to her.

Charlotte smiles when she notices that they were talking to each other. Theo can bet her mind is screaming ‘ Mission Accomplished’ right now.

“Can he visit me when he wants?” Samantha asks before he can consider answering Charlotte and he is left open-mouthed, gaping at her.

“Yeah, Of course, he can.” Charlotte quirks an eyebrow at Theo. “He is your mate after all.”

Ugh…he hates her smirk.

Theo makes a face at her.

“You can join our pack, Samantha. Azraiel wouldn’t mind.” Charlotte says to Samantha.

Samantha nods. “I want to wait till your shift.”

Charlotte’s smile drops but she nods anyway.

She turns to Theo and says, “I am leaving. You can come later if you want.”

He looks at Samantha to see if she wants him here. They might have acknowledged each other as mates but things are still awkward as hell. While he wants to be in her company it’s not necessary that she wishes for the same.

“I- think you should go with her. With her shift coming up, it’s not a good idea to leave her alone.” Samantha answers.

“You are right,” Theo says back.

“Mhmm..” charlotte clears her throat when they don’t look away from each other for a few seconds. “ I am right here you guys!”

Theo chuckles at her irritation and Samantha hides her smile.

“I’ll visit soon…and get you a cell phone.” Theo says to Samantha as Charlotte turns to leave.

Samantha opens her mouth to say something but before any words could come out of her mouth, Theo leans down and kisses her cheek.

She freezes.

“Goodbye!”

Theo leaves her frozen on the spot and a huge smile is painted on his face.

His suffering is finally coming to an end!
