Chapter 107: Chapter 107
Charlotte quietly follows Azraiel as they step out of the car and make their way towards Charlotte’s pack. Everyone is busy in their own work. Nicholas and Jamie are the ones that are waiting for them.
“Charlotte.” Nicholas and Jamie bow their head even after she has asked them to not.
“How are you guys?” She asks them while smiling.
“We are good.” Jamie answers.
“Is there any news or new development?” Nicholas comes straight to the point.
Azraiel and Charlotte look at each other.
Charlotte sighs and starts narrating what happened yesterday. How Daniel Scott came in and gave a piece of a very crucial information and left like nothing happened.
After she is done, Nicholas and Jamie looks petrified as well as confused.
“SO, the Head coordinator has been conveying the Head’s messages to us?” Jamie asks again.
“Yes.” Azraiel curtly answers.
“This is not good. You know this is not good.” Nicholas shakes is head and says to Charlotte.
“If we are indeed therians then we have no idea what triggers our shift into other species. We are only familiar with werewolf because that’s all we saw our parents shift into and that’s who we believed we were. This information is going to put everyone into panic mode.” Nicholas’ distress is evident on his face.
“You are right. That’s why I want you to not tell them about this right now.” Charlotte sees that Jamie is about to oppose so she doesn’t let him speak. “I am not asking you to hide this forever but just until we have a bit more information in how to deal with this.
“Okay, but we need to know more anyhow.” Jamie adds.
“Have you guys ever resonated with any other supernatural species?” Azraiel asks the question.
“Never.” Nicholas and Jamie answer in unison.
“Okay.” Azraiel doesn’t asks anything else.
“Do you guys need anything?” Charlotte asks skeptically. She knows she is there Alpha but she has no idea how to act like one. When she complained to Azraiel about this, he said it would come naturally.
“No, thank you.” Nicholas smiles and Charlotte smiles back.
Maybe for a second longer.
“I think we should leave.” Azraiel clears his throat.
Charlotte turns to him and then looks back at Nicholas. “You have my number. Call me if there’s anything.”
Nicholas and Jamie nod and bid them goodbye.
Once they are seated in the car and Azraiel starts driving, he turns to her slightly and asks, “What was that about?”
Charlotte’s brows scrunch in confusion.
“What was what about?”
“You and Nicholas smiling at each other like that?” He asks gripping the steering wheel as if his life depends on him.
Charlotte quirks her eyebrow, “So I can’t smile at a pack member of mine?” She knows he is jealous and she kind of likes it but she also finds it funny as hell.
“Don’t put words in my mouth. You were looking and smiling at each other so intensely.”
“That’s because he is my pack member and I kind of relate to him in a way I can never relate to anyone.” Charlotte knows she is spewing out bullshit at this point. She can never relate to Nicholas because he has suffered so much more than her and fought so hard to survive.
“Really?” Azraiel scoffs. “You know that’s bullshit. The only person you relate the most to is me.” He smugly says.
Seeing his quirky smile, she knows he is just teasing her now.
Charlotte just looks at him and smiles, “Well, that’s true.”
He looks at her and laughs.
God! How she wishes everything turns out to be good.
When they reach the pack, Azraiel rushes to his office at the packhouse and she is instructed to wait at the house for Theo. She couldn’t complete her training session yesterday and with the shift approaching in just two weeks, she need the sessions more than anything.
Charlotte decided to take a walk in the backyard garden while she waits for Theo. Slightly brushing her fingers through the leaves, she begins to sort her thoughts. Everything has happened in such a rush till now, especially in the past week.
What happened to Kira, then the pack visit, the news of death of Theo’s mate, after that Daniel’s arrival, Josh rejecting Kira and breaking the mate bond…
Everything has happened so fast and entangled in her brain that she has had no time to actually understand what she feels about these events.
She has finally found out what she is!
THERIAN
She has no idea what it means for her but she has no other option but to find out.
Besides that, the list of questions about everything just keeps increasing in her head.
When did Theo’s mate die?
Why did he never tell anyone?
Is Samantha his second chance mate? If yes, then why did she not say anything?
Will Kira be okay?
What it is to be a therian?
If her pack mates are therians too then why does she not have red eyes like them?
Why is she the only one who resonates with other species?
Will she turn into a werewolf or is there a chance that she could turn into another species?
What will happen to her pack?
After her shift, will the two packs merge or she would have to be Alpha of her pack and Luna of Azraiel’s pack?
She is so lost in her questions that she doesn’t notices Theo coming.
“Hey!” His voice makes her turn around.
The first thought that comes to her mind upon seeing him is that he looks like shit.
“Are you okay?” She asks as she walks towards him.
“I am fine.” He roughly answers and by the clenching of his jaw she knows that he is not fine.
“Let’s begin today’s session.” He says and starts walking towards the woods.
“Azraiel told me about you being a therian.” Theo says. “I could have never imagined that the folklore myth would turn out to be a truth.” He chuckles and she is just glad that he is not sulking anymore.
Charlotte chuckles too. “It sounds made up you know…someone who can turn into any supernatural species.”
“Yeah…”
They walk together in a peaceful silence until they reach a clearing.
Theo motions his hand towards the ground and asks her to sit. Charlotte follows his instructions and sit down cross-legged.
“From today we are going to make sure that you turn into a wolf when you shift and not any other supernatural species.” Charlotte nods.
“This session is going to look like Matt’s but each session has its own purpose.” Charlotte nods again.
“You have already seen how a werewolf shifts into a wolf?” Theo asks.
“Yes.” Charlotte answers. She has seen Azraiel shift into his wolf and now she has seen several pups and warriors shift too.
“Okay…I want you to close your eyes.” Charlotte does as he says. “Now, imagine yourself here, two weeks later. There is a full moon in the sky, shining brightly bathing you in its light. You are surrounded by the people you love. Azraiel is here, right beside you. The pack isn’t here but they are supporting you. You are lying here on the ground when suddenly the pain starts. Your body starts burning and you feel like someone has light up a fire on your head. You start sweating and your body aches. Slowly, you start to experience excruciating pain in your bones. Your bones start breaking one by one…”
Charlotte has no idea when but Theo’s voice fades away. She is right here at the clearing, drenched in sweat, her left foot twisted at an odd angle.
She is shifting!
Charlotte knows she is imagining things but it feels so surreal. She watches herself as her body twists again and again and she screams in pain. Azraiel is at her side, wiping away the sweat and whispering words of encouragement in her ears.
As her bones break and starts forming into the body of a wolf, Azraiel shifts into his wolf and starts licking her body to ease the pain.
The whole process goes on for hours and hours…the only sound she can hear is her screams.
Finally, the shifting finishes and she turns into a wolf.
But there is something strange. The woods become silent as she finishes shifting. Even Azraiel steps away from her and is looking at her strangely.
Oh God!!!
Charlotte panics as she notices the color of her wolf.
It’s changing!
The color of her wolf keeps changing between black and white and the more she looks at the wolf the more she feels she’ll go insane.
The flickering continues and she feels dizzy. The wolf with changing color steps forward and starts walking towards her. The closer she comes, the more Charlotte panics. She knows it’s her wolf yet somehow she feels it isn’t.
As the wolf comes to stand in front of her, its changing color between black and white makes her feel wobbly and then suddenly a bright white light makes her close her eyes.
She squeezes her eyes shut and breathes heavily. She doesn’t open them until she is sure there is no one here.
When she opens her eyes, a gasp comes out of her mouth.
In front of her, its Theo sitting in the exact same position as he was before. There is no wolf…just Theo. But…
But he isn’t looking at her…no…he is looking at
Her hands?
She follows her gaze and her breath gets stuck in her throat.
Her nails aren’t her nails anymore.
They have become claws!
