Chapter 101: Chapter 101
Azraiel was talking to Matt when he heard Charlotte’s voice through the mindlink. She sounded distressed and was asking him to come to her.
He left everything and rushed towards Theo’s office. Just as he was about to barge in, he heard him say something. Something that made him stop in his tracks.
“She can’t be my mate because my mate is dead.”
What the actual fuck!
Just a second later, Theo stormed out of the room and rushed out towards the woods. His wolf was out of control.
Azraiel went inside to see Charlotte sitting on the chair frozen like in a trance.
“Charlotte?” He softly calls her name.
A gasp escapes her lips as she turns to look at him.
“Th-Theo..” Her face says it all.
“yeah…I-I heard.” Azraiel says and takes a seat beside her.
“Did you know?” Charlotte asks sadly.
“No. He-He never told me.” Azraiel sighs. “And he never would have if we didn’t question him today.”
Charlotte nods.
He knows what she is thinking because he is thinking about it too.
Questions!
When the hell did he find his mate?
Why did he not tell anyone?
And most importantly, when did she die?
It physically hurts him to think about the pain he must have endured all alone.
“You should go find him. Not right now. But you should talk to him.” Charlotte says to Azraiel. She looks just as much in pain as him.
“I will.” Azraiel answers. “You should go home for now. I’ll call you when I find something else okay?”
“Okay.” Charlotte gets up and slowly walks away. Azraiel follows her out and mindlinks Matt.
“Keep an eye out for Theo.”
“Theo? What happened?” Matt asks confusedly.
“I’ll tell that later.” Azraiel answers and locks himself in his office.
His mind starts going through every conversation, every moment that he has spent with Theo in the past years.
That little fucker has been a pro at hiding his feelings all these years and he never knew.
Does-does that mean he is a bad friend?
Or maybe he is just a bad Alpha?
Self-doubt erupts in Azraiel’s mind as he thinks about it again and again. Guilt starts to plague his heart as he realizes one thing.
Maybe just maybe… He has been ignorant…inobservant…
First Kira…
Now Theo…
And if Theo and Kira have been carrying that pain without Azraiel being aware of it, then how many more members of his pack have been suffering alone in silence?
********
Charlotte shakily sits down on the bed in her room.
“She can’t be my mate because my mate is dead.”
Theo’s words echo in her mind again and again.
Oh God!
She has unknowingly opened a wound that probably wasn’t healed yet.
Shit…shit…shit…!
She shouldn’t have pushed him today.
If his mate is dead then, Samantha really can’t be his mate.
Well….
Her wolf makes an appearance.
“What?” Charlotte asks her.
“Wolves can have a second chance mate.” Her wolf answers.
“Second chance mate?”
“Yeah…when a wolf’s mate dies or rejects us, and the said wolf survives the pain…the moon Goddess blesses that wolf with a second chance mate. She believes in
fairness, you know. Anyone who deserves love shall get love.” Her wolf explains.
“So...Samantha can be his second chance mate?” Charlotte feels a spark of hope igniting in her chest.
If anyone deserves love more than anything, it is Theo!
She’ll have to talk to Samantha. Yes..Charlotte decided that would be the ideal course of action.
If Samantha is indeed Theo’s second chance mate, then she definitely would have felt it.
But-But…
Wait….
If that’s true…then…
It’s understandable that Theo didn’t say anything but why the hell did Samantha not react at all?
*******
Matt watches as Kira sips the water.
“You can go, you know.” Kira says abruptly.
“Really, Matt. You should leave. I am fine.” Kira says to Matt.
“She is right. You should go. I am here.” Ayleen enters the room.
Matt sighs.
He has been worried sick for the past two days. Kira is out of danger but he is not so sure about her mental health. If this incident is a warning sign, then she really needs
help. A lot of help.
She is spiraling down; it is pretty evident by the way she has been acting. She is behaving as if nothing happened. As if she didn’t almost die. As if she hasn’t been hurting. As if she wanted to end it.
As if she wanted to die!
He looks at her again, the dark circles under her eyes look even more darker today. She can’t continue living like this.
“You should ask him to reject you.” Matt has no idea what made him say that but his words make both Ayleen and Kira freeze.
“What?” Kira whispers.
“You heard me! You are suffering because of him, Kira. Don’t do this to yourself.” Matt pleads.
“Do you even know what it means to get rejected? I’d die, Matt!” Kira cries.
“But-But he is right, Kira!” Ayleen speaks before Matt could open his mouth.
“You too?” Kira looks at Ayleen shocked.
Ayleen and Matt look at each other.
“You are hurting. If you reject him, it’ll hurt more, but the suffering will end for once and all. Think about it Kira.” Ayleen says.
Kira scoffs as a tear falls down her cheek. “Wow...You guys have so much confidence in me. Sorry to burst your bubble, but I’m not that strong. I can’t reject him and survive the pain, Ayleen!”
“Yes, you can!” Matt says. “You can survive anything, Kira. He doesn’t deserve you. He has been hurting you all these years and you have been suffering all the time.
Don’t let him ruin the rest of your life. Take the control of your life from him. Please!”
Kira looks away from him knowing perfectly well that he is right.
“Matt, leave, please. I’ll talk to her!” Ayleen says to him through the mindlink.
Matt nods unwillingly and leaves the house. He takes off towards the packhouse and instantly goes to Alpha’s office.
“What’s wrong with Theo?” Matt asks Azraiel.
“Sit..” Azraiel sighs.
“Apparently, he had a mate who died.”
“What-I-I..” Matt is at a loss for words.
Theo had a mate who died and he has no fucking idea about it. Well, by the looks of it, no one knew about this.
Most importantly, how the hell did that little shit survive without them knowing. The death of a mate is possibly the worst pain a wolf can endure and he endured it….
But….
Matt looks back at all the times he has seen Theo sad or depressed or …just not being Theo….
And that was just once….
Matt suddenly looks up at Azraiel…..and he is already looking at him.
Azraiel sighs, “I know what you are thinking. I came to the same conclusion.” He leans back in his chair and rubs his palms on his face.
“We really are the worst of friends, Matt!” Azraiel sounds more like their childhood friend and less like the Alpha of the Blue Orchid pack.
“We had no idea that our friend has been suffering for eleven fucking years!”
