Chapter 29: Chapter 29

Whispers carried around the dining table as most of our pack members looked shocked while only a few looked like they expected it. Alpha Clause glanced around again as he continued, "And that leaves me no choice, but to choose another Beta and I have already decided yesterday. Bailey, you will be our new Beta with the guidance of Rachel."

Several gasps erupted from the crowd as they seemed shocked and I knew that it must have been because she was a shewolf. However, Riley and Ron seemed excited, especially Riley as she whispered, "Whoa! A female Beta. I want to be just like her and Luna!"

One of the male wolves that have fought for our entertainment on the day of our personal Mating Ceremony stood up from the dining table.

A frown fell on his brows as he protested, "But Alpha, Bailey is a shewolf! How could she be a Beta? There are so many male wolves in the pack house and in the whole south that are part of your pack, why give the title to a shewolf?"

Alpha Clause's face darkened as his lips pressed in a thin line. He glanced at him as he said in a calm, but irritated tone of voice, "Carter, you have no right to oppose my words and you shouldn't look down on females! It is either you accept my decision or prove that you can be a better Beta."

Carter frowned and sat back down, looking down at his plate as he muttered an apology towards Alpha Clause, "I'm sorry, Alpha. Please forgive me."

"You're forgiven as long as you don't repeat the same mistake." He replied to him, looking relieved.

"Yes, Alpha." Carter muttered with his head still bowed.

I placed my hand on his to calm down his anger and that drew his gaze to me. His face softened and his lips twitched up into a smile as our eyes clashed. He looked like he appreciated my comforting gesture as he placed his hand on top of mine and gave it a little squeeze before letting go of my hand. I pulled my hand back too and looked back to my plate as I started eating. I felt his stare on me as he also started eating. It made my heart racing knowing that he couldn't keep his eyes off of me.

"Luna Fay, I'm so happy that Alpha Sloan chose me to be his Beta, thank you so much!" Bailey exclaimed, sounding very happy and pulling my gaze away from my plate and to her to see a large grin on her face as she leaned over Rachel to talk to me.

I smiled back at her as I replied, "I'm happy that you are our new Beta too, but I had no hand in it. It was all Rachel and Clause, you should be thanking them since it's their idea."

"But I'm sure that you supported it, so I'll thank you all!" She grinned even wider and glanced at Alpha Clause as she exclaimed, "Thank you, Alpha for giving me such an honorable role in this pack and the whole east of our land!"

"And thank you Rachel for also giving the idea!" She added as she turned to Rachel.

Alpha Clause nodded as he replied to her in a serious voice, "You are welcome, Bailey. I believe that you will do a good job, especially since you are my Luna mate's close friend, so do not disappoint or Fay."

"I will make you both and the pack proud!" Bailey promised as she looked around the table excitedly while everyone whispered amongst themselves.

Rachel let out a small laugh at her enthusiasm as she replied, "I'm sure you will, Bailey."

Alpha Clause only nodded again and I smiled at her. The rest of the breakfast went by smoothly until we were almost done when we heard a loud banging, followed by heavy footsteps. I felt confused as I wasn't sure where it was coming from. So I glanced at Alpha Clause to see him standing up to get in a protective stance beside me which made my heart warm at his care for me.

Before any of us could do anything else, wild rogue werewolves jumped into the dining room, some breaking through the glass of the transparent sliding back door while others jumped through the windows. Everyone quickly stood up and started shifting into their wolves to fight while a few stayed in human form to fight the rogues attacking us. Three rogue wolves rushed towards Alpha Clause and I, and I recognized one as the one Alpha Clause described as Alpha Ross, the Alpha that went rogue.

He was a black wolf with a white scar the shape of lightning under his left eyelid. He together with a brown wolf attacked Alpha Clause, leaving me unprotected for the smaller wolf that was ash in color to attack me. They might have thought that I was weak and that was why they had only one small wolf attack me, but I was strong and I would show them. I threw a kick at the wolf's jaw and he reared back, letting out a loud growl both in pain and anger.

He launched at me again, this time, even more angry and determined to take me down, so I knew that I had to shift into my wolf. Just as he was about to jump on me, I shifted into my wolf and grabbed his throat in between my teeth. The wolf squirmed and whimpered in pain as he tried to escape which only made my teeth deeper into his throat. I flung him aside and he whimpered some more as he started healing instantly.

My attention was taken away from him when Alpha Ross's black wolf rushed towards me, his head butting into my stomach and making me fall down as I groaned in pain. Alpha Ross's black wolf stepped towards me as he bared his sharp teeth and glared at me with those menacing eyes while I tried to get up. A loud, terrifying growl vibrated through the room.
