Chapter 27: Chapter 27

Alpha Clause's words sent delightful shivers through my body and my body heated up at what he meant. My cheeks heated up too in a blush and I suddenly felt shy as I mumbled, "Okay."

The dinner soon finished and we all went home, that was after exchanging numbers with all Lunas. As we entered the pack house, we saw something very surprising. Beta Connor was making his way to the door with his suitcase in his hand while Brittany rushed after him. Alpha Clause looked shocked and so did I as he asked him, "Where are you going, Beta Connor?"

"I'm sorry, Alpha, but I have to leave because I can't stand being around my mate when she rejected me for you. It hurts too much for me to continue staying here." Beta Connor answered him as his face looked pained.

"How can you leave after all that we've been through together as a pack?" Alpha Clause asked as a small frown fell on his brows.

"I'm sorry, Alpha. I hope that you can understand where I'm coming from and accept my decision." Beta Connor replied, looking determined.

"Please don't leave, Connor." Brittany said, looking remorseful and concerned as she tugged at his shirt sleeve.

He tugged his arm out of her grip sharply as he glared at her, "You have no right to say that when it is because of you."

"I-" She started, but he cut her off instantly.

"No, Brittany, leave me alone since you can't accept me as your mate." He replied to her coldly which was surprising because he has always acted gentle towards her. It seemed that he has finally reached his breaking point and I completely understood where he was coming from, but he was our Beta.

She also looked shocked and heartbroken, but she kept her mouth shut.

Alpha Clause was frowning as he seemed to think about what Beta Connor said. Beta Connor took this opportunity to start forward, but I stepped in his path as I gave him a concerned look, "I understand that you're hurting, Beta Connor and that it's so hard to watch your true mate be far away from you while chasing another person, but you have to think of this pack too. How can it function without its Beta?"

He shook his head, still determined as he answered me, "I'm sorry, Luna Fay, but I have to be selfish for once in my life because I have always sacrificed so much for this pack. You have to let me have my happiness, Luna, and as for the pack, I'm sure that Alpha Clause can find another suitable he or shewolf to be the new Beta."

I nodded, letting out a sigh as I realized that he was right. He deserved to be happy and we have no right to take that away from him. So I stepped aside as I replied to him, "You're right and I hope that you do find happiness."

He looked relieved and glad that I understood as his lips stretched into a small smile, "Thank you, Luna."

"I understand where you're coming from too, Connor, so you're free to go, and I also wish you happiness. Good luck with your new life and don't forget to call once in a while." Alpha Clause said with a smile on his lips as he patted his shoulder.

Beta Connor looked happy as his smiled widened and looked even more relieved, "Thank you, Alpha! I would never forget all the good that you have done to me, and I won't forget to call either."

Alpha Clause nodded and Beta Connor started forward again, but Brittany tugged him back by his sleeve again. He let out a sigh and looked back at her as he asked, "What do you want, Brittany? I thought I told you to stay away."

"I- I want to accept you as my mate and go with you because I can't live here without you either." She muttered with a small frown on her brows.

He looked shocked and so did we since she was so adamant on being with Alpha Clause. He looked happy and tried to hide his smile as he said, "Do you really mean that, Brittany?"

She nodded her head as she smiled at him, "Yes, I mean it with all my heart. Seeing you about to leave has made me realize that it was you all along keeping me together and showing me love. So I'll follow you to wherever you go."

"That's wonderful! I can't wait to mark you as mine!" He exclaimed as he grinned, letting go of his suitcase and wrapping his arms around her body.

She laughed and he laughed as they hugged each other. I have never seen both of them be as happy as they were at the moment. I couldn't help, but grin too even though I didn't like Brittany. A burning stare made me turn and my gaze clashed with Alpha Clause's. He was staring at me with those dark eyes of his and I felt my heart beat faster at the intensity of his stare. His lips twitched up into a smile and I smiled back at him as we continued staring into each other's eyes as our faces moved closer.

Brittany's squeal pulled our attention away from each other to look over at them to see that they have stepped back from the hug. I let out a deep breath to calm my desires down as I asked Beta Connor, "So does this mean that you'll stay?"

Beta Connor glanced at Alpha Clause before looking back at me as he shook his head, "I can't stay, not when I know that Brittany rejected me at first because of Alpha Clause. I've tried so hard not resent him as my friend and my Alpha, but it's hard, and I also don't want to risk Brittany change her mind because she's close to him."

I nodded as I replied, "Alright."

"I understand, Connor. Honestly, I would have hated the man that my mate left me for if that ever happened, but God forbid that ever happens."
