Daisy's POV

Monday proved fulfilling to me as my job hunt came to an end, I have finally gotten a job as a server in a hamburger and chips shop, I'm so glad, finally, I can be earning for myself, there are just four of us that's placed in serving,

"Welcome to Freda's Hamburgers and chips, you can change up and begin duty, your shift starts by four", Freda, the owner of the chips and hamburgers said warmly to me, she is a plump lady with freckles splattered all over her face, she looks to be in her forties but I might be wrong, she looks kind and gentle for a boss and I'm glad, who need a tyrant boss anyways?

"Mia, the new girl her uniform and show her where to get changed" she hollered and immediately a girl appeared, she smiled at me,

"Hello, I'm Mia, come with me please" I followed her as she handed over a yellow and orange colored cloth to me, " this is your uniform and you can change over there," she said, pointing to a cubicle, "...and this is Evans, you both are on the same shift"

I turned towards the guy standing right beside her and smiled, "hello, I'm Daisy"

"I'm Evans and I'm glad to be working shift with you".

After changing, I joined them at the counter, soon Mia left as her shift was over, leaving just I and Evans, only both of us will be working the evening shift, the customers weren't much and the job isn't as hard as I thought, in fact, it was quite easy and I enjoyed working with Evans, he was so friendly and nice to me and for the first time in years, he actually made me laugh genuinely and when our shift was over, he walks with me until I reach home before continuing to his, I find myself looking forward to going to work after school every day as that is the only place I am free to be myself and mingle with others.

It's been a week now since I started working in Freda's Hamburgers, I was chatting away with Evans as customers weren't much today, customers usually flood the place at the weekend that it would seem like we even needed an extra hand but today was different, Evans was telling me a funny story that had me giggling when the door opened and some group of guy walked in,

"Go take their orders Evans, I'll deliver"

"Yes your majesty," he said and bowed to me playfully which made me laugh out loud as he went to get their orders

I quickly arranged the orders in a tray, chips with lemonade and some cappuccino, "coming right up" I said and carried the tray towards the waiting customers,

"Your chips," I said, placing the plate of chips on the table, "your cappuccino...and your..." My words trailed off when I decided to look up at that exact moment and my eyes clashed with stormy grey eyes with rim of gold,

What the...the glass of lemonade which I was about putting on the table slides from my hand and fell right on the floor, the sound of glass shattering filled the air, I took steps back until my back came in contact with someone,

"Are you okay?" Evans asked from behind me, placing his hands on my shoulders, his face mirrored concern,

"I...I... I'm sorry I...I dropped the glass, can you help me attend to them? I'll be right back"

Without waiting for his response, I fled to the ladies' room, damn it, how did he find out that I work here? He must be here to torment me because this place does not look like where a guy like Aires would hang out, I took my time in the ladies' room before coming out, hoping that he might have left but if wishes were horses...

He was still seated right there, one of his gang has left, remaining him and Damien, his eyes snapped to me immediately I came out and I tried my best to avoid his gaze, soon Damien left also but Aires was still seated, why wasn't he leaving, I had already lost focus as I feel his hot stare everywhere I go,

"Are you okay?" Evans asked for the umpteenth time, probably noticing how fidgety I was, customers started coming in slowly and I took each order, conscious about his gaze on me, it was almost time for my shift to be over and from the corner of my eyes, I saw him stood up and walked out of the door, I went limp with relief

"Seems like you know that guy from somewhere" Evans inquired staring at the door which Aires had just walked out and then towards me, I nodded but said nothing,

"Is he bothering you?" He asked and I shook my head, the last thing I want was for him to get involved in my personal problems,

"It's nothing that I can't handle" I replied, he stared at me for a moment,

"You know you can count on me right?" He asked and I smiled,

"Yeah, I do" feeling touched by his concern for me, I stood on tiptoe and kissed his cheek, "thank you Evans but I promise you that I'm fine"

He seemed convinced this time around, "our shift is over, go and get changed let's go"

I finished changing and stood outside, waiting for Evans to finish up, I was kinda feeling anxious as I paced, probably because Aires had showed up at my work place but thankfully, he had gone before I finished my shift,

"Are you waiting for me, sweetheart" he drawled and I whirled around to see him standing just behind me,

"Aires" I gasped

He grabbed my hand and dragged me to the corner of the building, he walked towards me in a predatory manner until I had my back against the wall, "w...what are you doing here"

"You don't seem happy to see me sweetheart, what's wrong? You didn't really think that I left, do you?"

I almost rolled my eyes, was there a time that I was happy to see him? I was such a fool to think that he could just leave"

"I...I...need to go home, let me go," I said and made to walk past him but he dragged me back, hitting my back painfully against the wall, I whimpered, and he grabbed my chin painfully,

"You don't walk out on me Daisy, you should know better " he whispered close to my ears

"Let her go, you jerk, I knew you were up to no good when I first saw you," Evans said, pushing Aires away and standing between Aires and I

"Who are you to tell me what to do? Her boyfriend or her bodyguard "

"Both, now stay away from her, I'm warning you"

I whimpered when he said he is both my boyfriend and bodyguard, I saw the look that crossed Aires face, I'm so dead,

"Evans, please stop..."

"No Daisy, I won't allow this dimwit hurt you" tears were running freely down my cheeks by now, I watched as Aires smiled a half smile, his gaze calculating,

"you don't wanna mess with me boy, just stay away", he warned and I know that tone all too well, his gaze met mine and in his gaze, I read, "you're in big trouble", oh my goodness, I know that Evans meant well but he just didn't know that he has landed me in bigger trouble with Aires

Aires nodded severally as if coming to a decision in his mind, he pointed towards Evans and me,

"you'll regret this, the both of you, you don't mess with Aires", with that he was gone, much to my surprise, and my legs gave way, I would have fallen but got caught by Evans,

"Are you okay?" he asked concerned and I nodded,

"You shouldn't have done that Evans, he'll only punish me more"

"Has he been doing this?"

"As long as I can remember" I murmured

"He's sick then, come, let's seat somewhere and get you something to drink before I take you home"

I immediately shook my head, "no, thank you, Evans, I'll be fine, I'll be on my way now", I left him standing there and started walking home with Aires' threat ringing in my mind, I was scared to the core because I know Aires all too well if he meant to do something, he does it, I just hope that he does not hurt Evans who was only trying to protect me.
