Chapter 455: Chapter 455
Brian smiled. Of all the Faes gathered in the large room that was to hold the coronation, he was the only one who saw that the roles had reversed. Despite the daunting pressure exerted by the head guard, Brain still saw how he paid attention to the new Queen-to-be’s every expression and whim. That, in itself made him smile. Maybe a little too much, even for the occasion at hand. But that earned Brian a nod of acknowledgement from Prince Simon.
’A day in the dungeons set that old fool right!’
Brain snickered at this because Prince Simon was as readable as an open book. Prince Simon was already seated, patiently ... or maybe impatiently waiting for all of this to pass over so that he could have time with his woman! He couldn’t wait to devour her whole every single day for thereon!
Brain snickered again, looking at Prince Simon licking his lip, his gaze hungry, almost depraved, as if he had never seen a female before ... never touched, never tasted, never even imagined. It was as though every ounce of discipline drilled into him as a royal had been unceremoniously flushed down the drain when his eyes landed on her.
It was disgusting. Revolting, even.
Even if he believed ...no, convinced himself.... that this woman was meant to be his wife, his queen, it did nothing to soften the sheer indecency of his stare.
In the front and beside him was his father, Prince Syla. Syla, like all the other Fae’s of the land, had never seen Shelby in person.
Over the past few days, Prince Syla couldn’t shake off the feeling that there was something off about the human. At first, he had dismissed it. He had brushed her off as insignificant, even after information about her had been conveyed to him, but the unease gnawed at him, persistent and unrelenting.
His instincts, the very ones that had never failed him, screamed whenever she was mentioned. Prince Syla distinctly remembered his last conversation with his son on this, and even though Syla had reacted as such, his heart had grown cold at Simon’s reaction! Even the fact that Simon could be placed on the throne had not perturbed him.
That led Syla to ask himself, ’What kind of a woman could have such a hold on his own son, whom he, Syla, had groomed to perfection!’
Syla liked Simon the most out of his numerous sons because he was the fruit of his love with Ash!
Syla could never bring himself to reprimand Simon, mostly because he pampered Ash to bits and did not want her to be sad or downcast in any way.
Syla still could not get over the way his son’s face lit up at the mere thought of that woman!
The most baffling, most infuriating part?
He had never even met her! How could Simon make that decision on his own?
And yet, something within Prince Syla recoiled at the thought of the human. Something told him... it warned him.... that she was more than she seemed.
Prince Syla had not been able to follow through with his words to Simon for two reasons:
The first was that Ash had kept him sexually occupied in his waking moments, while the other part was spent in slumber. How could Syla not know what Ash had been up to? It had been years since they had been intimate, so the only reason he could deduce was that she was there as a distraction for Simon.
However, notwithstanding the reason, Prince Syla did not care! Not one bit! If it meant that he could spend the night with the one woman who could bend him to her will, Ash!
Still, Syla had taken updates from the head guard, which reassured him and made him somewhat relax his vigilance.... But then nothing prepared him for when he laid eyes on her.
There was a uniform sharp intake of breath, a collective gasp that seemed to suck the air out of the room, as well as all the Fae who were watching the proceedings through the atmospheric projection.
In later years, some would call it an exaggeration, an overblown retelling of a dramatic moment. But in that instant, there was no denying it! A stunned silence fell over them all, in the streets, in homes, those on guard duties.... thick and absolute, as if the world itself had paused to take notice.
Brian, who should have been somehow immune to this, could not help but think back to one of the books he had read.... It was a prophecy of an unknown who would come to dominate all! Brian could not help but think of the human when that phase came to mind:
’A cross-species who was not.... One who seemed to have nothing but could command all! One who was meant to be....’
Fully dressed and cleaned up, this was the first for even the old Faes. If they had been mesmerized when they saw the dishevelled Shelby, this time was indeed different. She looked stunning, like an ethereal young woman.
Her striking blue eyes seemed almost luminous against her fair skin. The Faes were fair, but even they had never seen such before. Shelby’s delicate features are framed by wavy, super-blonde hair that had been deliberately tousled as If it had been touched just right by the wind, with strands catching the light like spun gold.
Adorning her head is an intricate crown-like accessory woven with delicate gold embellishments and vivid blue feathers that mirror her eyes. Her attire? It was to die for! It had been paired with an almost otherworldly white garment with intricate metallic detailing, resembling the flowing patterns of water or wind.
The play of light and shadow on her face, along with the sparkle in her eyes, made her seem like a celestial being ... perhaps a sea goddess or an enchanted spirit bound to the sea waves, if there was any there close to them. She exuded a quiet confidence in her gaze, a serene and powerful beauty as if she held the secrets of the world within her.
She looked every bit of the Queen that Simon wanted her to be.
"What the hell is this abomination doing here?" Prince Syla screamed.
He lost his composure entirely. Syla had seen his fair share of the Fae females but never one that made him want to go naked right in front of her and make her his!
Simon frowned at his father’s outburst.
"Why have you brought a mer person here?!!!" Syla shouted again. He was losing his reasoning.
’Like father, like son!’ Brian facepalmed himself mentally.
A few people were able to shake themselves from the haze being cast by Shelby. The wise among them learnt to lower their heads so that they did not have to look at Shelby directly. Some had already fainted, others drooling like fools. This was the strangest part for all of them.... This was seemingly a human, so how could she have that much effect on them?
Ash, who had been standing behind Prince Simon’s chair, tried to calm him down to no avail. Even she, a female, could not stand the charm that was emanating from the human. The people who found this the most bizarre were the old Fae, who had already met Shelby once. They best understood the changes from when they had first seen her .... That was, if their mind functioned fully well, for them to make that comparison.
Syla’s words jolted some of them back to reality.
It all made sense if she was a mermaid.... For no human could look like that and cast a wide net of confusion over everyone, regardless of age or gender.
The faes were known to be at odds with the merfolk. This was a milk way to put it... The Fae’s detested the merfolks!
However, before anyone else could say anything, a childlike giggle rang out throughout the large hall and even the streets! It was creepy... to almost a point where no one would want to be alone with such a child.
"Hehehehehehehehheeee..."
While a much older one sighed. The two occurred at the same time, and it was enough to draw attention from the haze cast by Shelby.
"WHO DARED INTERRUPT ME!" Prince Syla shouted.
He was getting too worked up in a way that he could not control. This was for one added reason, apart from Shelby’s looks.
Prince Syla sensed Roman in the air. He knew his brother’s power and what it could do. Despite the fact that it was faint, it shocked and scared Prince Syla. At that moment, he was determined to do any and everything to find out who or what the human girl was. However, as Syla turned and his eyes fell on the two guests, he could not help but force himself to calm down!
He watched as two individuals stepped into the room and in his line of sight!
Before anyone could comprehend how the child’s voice was able to travel that far and whose child that was, they heard her say as she walked into the room,
"Sister? You got here right on time! Heheheheheee..."
At that, Shelby finally turned to look back at the visitors. Her indifferent eyes swept across both of them, and she was about to turn to the father and son when something caught her eye on one of the two who had just entered, making her snap her head back to look at them.
The other Faes were equally stunned, grappling with a perplexing question: ’How can a girl of about eight refer to an elderly woman, who appears as if she might tumble to her death at any moment, as a sister?’
