Chapter 441: Chapter 441

An excited rush of adrenaline passed through Murray. It had been brief, but that was the first time he had heard anything remotely from his brother in hours.

’It turns out there is some truth to this man here...’ He whispered, but after mere seconds, Murray lost that connection

"Fuck!" He cursed, standing to hit his feet and pacing. Still, Murray tried to no avail to reach anyone. A little taste of that contact made his frustration mount.

"I won’t be here for long, but I want to understand this oath thing..." Brain started his excitement at the possibility of that knowledge getting the best of him, even though his voice remained low.

Murray continued pacing, up and down, his mind racing a mile per minute.

Brain hesitated, his bony fingers twitching as he glanced at the Murray, seemingly in his own world, who had stooped with his back to him. His rigid back facing Brain. The air between them was thick, not with hostility, but with something unspoken .... an unease that still lingered after the brief but terrifying encounter.

Brian may have been excited about the knowledge, but it did not mean that he forgot the little near-death lesson. His hands automatically went up to rub his throat at the memory.

Brain cleared his throat softly at first, testing the waters. No reaction. He shifted slightly, watching the Brain’s posture and staying out of his head this time. Brian noted how Murray seemed lost in thought, his broad shoulders tense. Another quiet sound, a shuffle of his feet. Still nothing.

He licked his lips. Fine. Let’s try bravery, then.

"Ah .... Ermm..... young man?" His voice wavered slightly, and he immediately cursed himself for it. A man who had seen the turn of centuries should not sound like a meek old fool.

He inhaled deeply, squared his frail shoulders, and with as much authority as he could muster, called out ....

"You with the short fuse! Are you going to ignore me all day, or shall I start-"

Brian had barely finished the statement when he got a reaction. Murray’s head turned slightly, and though he said nothing, the flicker of attention was enough for the Brain to exhale in relief. Well, at least he wouldn’t be getting strangled again today.

It took a moment for Murray to hear Brain’s words,

"Why did the connection cut off?"

It took another few seconds for Brain to understand Murray’s question.

"So, that was what you were thinking about?"

"Yes, tell me!" Murray took quick steps towards the old man, making Brian shrink back.

However, Murray stopped short a few inches from him,

’Will others be able to make this deduction as well?’ Murray frowned,

’We would be in big trouble if that happened!’

"Don’t worry, those fools will not be able to put anything together," Brain said in response, and Murray glared at him.

"Hey, I am only trying to help! Why are you glaring at me like I have done some original sin?"

Murray still did not let his guard down,

"Didn’t you see what happened?"

"They placed me here as soon as I mentioned that oath. They think I am not sane, so how would they think of the most revered warriors of this kingdom?"

Brain added and rubbed his chin in thought,

"It’s quite funny because you do look like your parents in a way. But when people are blind, even when the evidence is in front of them, they would never see it!"

Murray frowned, deciding to believe the old Fae at that moment; after all, what did he have to lose?

"Anyway, they might probably come for me this evening-"

"You didn’t answer my question...."

"Oh that... you young people of nowadays are too impatient... give it time!"

Murray looked at him suspiciously and then later gave in. He had made more progress than he would have on his own.

"About your mistress..."

He didn’t even get to finish before the Murray’s sharp glare cut through him like a blade. A silent warning. The kind that made lesser men shrink back.

Brain immediately threw up his hands in surrender.

"Geez! Why are you so sensitive?" he grumbled, shaking his head. "I’m just trying to talk, not commit a crime."

Murray said nothing, but his stare remained cold, unwavering.

Brain sighed dramatically.

"Fine, fine! I won’t say anything bad about her. But you know, there’s something to be said about a man who gets this worked up over one woman...."

The glare intensified.

"Alright, alright! I’ll shut up now." He muttered under his breath, "Kids these days..." and cautiously leaned back, pretending he hadn’t just risked his life twice in a span of seconds.

Then, just as suddenly, he slapped his forehead,

"I’ll make sure that she is okay and her block is removed..."

Murray wanted to ask how he knew, but at that point in time, Murray knew that he was being silly holding up his wall at this person, who was supposedly his parents’ friend.

"So, are you going to tell me?"

"I don’t know much about it, as I was not there when the bond was formed...."

"So, there was a bond?! Really! OMG! I never thought that I would ever see someone successfully go through this bond... It’s a dream come through... I don’t know what to say-"

Brain paused, then smiled sheepishly.

"I doubt that her Highness will be able to tell you anything about this either, as she wa-" Brain watched Murray’s eyes lighting up as he talked of his mistress. He was noted how he addressed her.

However, just as suddenly, Murray stopped talking, knowing deep down that he should not be too trusting.

"It’s alright." Brain waved his hand dismissively.

"It is what it is.... At least I confirmed one thing." He decided not to push for any more information.

"She will be okay in the few days that Prince Simon is waiting for the witch for that coronation, but no one knows what will happen on that coronation. I don’t believe that I have to tell you what you need to do?"

Murray closed his eyes and crossed his legs in another yoga-meditation stance and Brain let him be.

The older man let his eyes linger on Murray for a while before he also closed his eyes in a similar posture.

Aliya laughed out loud,

"Everything has been worth it!" She had now retired to her quarters. After the first few days, she was not overly sensitive about the fact that she could not have access to Ian’s wing anymore. Surprisingly, Suzie person had been very adamant about certain things. Aliya had learnt in the few days after the accident what mattered and what could be leveraged.

The place was surprisingly well-protected, and she could not even leverage any of her abilities to access the chambers, but at this time, Aliya did not mind such. The whole Thornston estate was at her beck and call, so what else could she want?

"Ian dear, it’s time for a visit."

Aliya muttered to herself, getting up and putting on makeup that would make her look sickly and haggard. She had to play her part to the media, after all, how could she maintain the notion that she was the most wronged one?

"Damn that witch!" She couldn’t help but curse!

Only one thing at this time was causing dissatisfaction. Aliya did not have access to the kids as she would have liked. She had no idea why the Timeless witch had made sure that she could not have access to them.

"What is that witch playing at?"

Aliya fumed day in and day out about this little fact, but then, it was always short-lived. She made her way out of the estate to Ian’s hospital room, making sure that the media caught her haggard expressions.

Aliya’s forlorn expression gave way to a smirk as soon as she entered Ian’s room.

"Hello, My Prince... Did you miss me?"

Aliya walked up to Ian’s bed and frowned....

"It’s not exciting anymore but your essence is really sweet! This was not in vain!"

She said and then leaned over him on the bed. Aliya opened her mouth slightly, and a slight vapour-like essence rose up from Ian to her opened lips. She remained in the position for a while and then frowned.

"Are you having a bad day, My Prince? Why do you taste a bit strange today?"

"Alright, let’s stop here and continue this tomorrow."

Outside the door, a couple of the nurses peeked and giggled,

"OMG! This is so fun to watch! She loves him so much!"

The two ran away before Aliya could see them. Straightening up, she turned towards the door.

"I need to find another source to add up... Sigh!"

Ian’s face was scrunched up in pain at this time, even though he remained unconscious. The monitors started beeping wildly as soon as Aliya left and his fingers twitched.

"What witch, Ingrid?" Samantha asked, looking at Ingrid’s thoughtful face.

"Ingrid, is it the one that came last time?" Gabriel chipped in.

Ingrid nodded, just as Currey appeared soundlessly in the children’s room,

"Did someone come here?"

"Yes, a few days ago...."

"Why didn’t you mention it?"

"I wanted to be sure...."

"Ingrid? How can I protect you, if I don’t know what is going on?"

"It’s okay... She said something weird that day and.... Anyway, she had said that, that Aliya woman had generously bestowed us three to her as gifts..."

"WHAT... why didn’t you say anything?!" Currey demanded, feeling a dread settle on him,

"Was it really that witch with the tattoo on her hand?"

"It’s okay Murray... she had also said that she took us as gifts to protect us."

"Huh? What does that mean?"

"She said that she owed Mummy a debt and it is considered paid if she protected us from that Aliya woman....."
