Chapter 324: Chapter 324
"You ungrateful bitch!" Josh shouted at the top of his voice as if wanting to attract attention, which worked like magic.
Josh had thought of many scenes where he would find Ava and, most importantly, what he would have done afterwards, but he did not like what he was seeing at all.
Swya, Josh’s current bedmate, had only said that Ava would be in the now very famous lobby because of her new job, but he had not seen her there. Josh had walked around aimlessly until he had found her surrounded by three young men!
’What’s with this girl? Three men?! Can these even be called men?!’ Josh could not believe his eyes. Was this the very same person who looked so chaste, and all the men around were clamouring for?
Was this the definition of a ’good girl?’ She went around giving out her pussy freely, but he, her boyfriend, was left hanging? What kind of girl was she? The more that Josh thought of these, his emotions went out of hand.
He did have a short memory, though. He had conveniently forgotten what he had tried to do to Ava or, rather, what he had chosen not to do! Josh had forgotten that he had let the thugs nearly have their way with Ava on his watch.
In his mind, all Josh remembered was that Rocky had punched the daylights out of him and tried to snatch Ava away from him. His manhood had been challenged and the most infuriating part was that it was by a man-boy! To compound that, Ava had stood by to watch. To Josh, that was unacceptable!
Even as all these went through his head and his face contorted into apparent anger, Swya was right on his heels.
Ava stilled and her eyes turned a shade darker. Because of her contacts, this was not visible, but the slight narrowing of her eyes showed that she was angry.
Swya, seeing this, took a couple of steps back and waited to watch the good show. For her mission was as simple as server the ties between Ava and Josh so that she could get exclusive rights over him. She could care less of any confrontation and how that happened if the end results landed in her favour.
"What are you doing here, Josh?" Ava asked rather calmly. She had envisioned a lot of scenes when she met Josh but not the one in which they were. Ava wished in her heart that she will never meet him in her life again buat alas!... even that had not gone in her favour.
The people who had been closest to them looked on curiously. They tried to speculate to a scenario that made sense, but none was conducive.
"Why are you always jumping to the conclusion that the woman is the cheater? Don’t you see that girl who was with the man? The one who is looking on from the back? Besides, he just started making noise. If you don’t know something, don’t make any assumptions!"
"Why are you taking it so personally, as if someone had said that you had cheated?"
"Whatever! Just watch on..."
"I don’t care about any of these people; I just wish my goddess would come back!"
"Which.... Oh that one? It’ll only be your wishful thinking!"
Different schools of conversations went around, and Ava stared long and hard at Josh.
"I asked what you are doing here?!" Ava snapped this time. The fact that she was trying to be civil did not mean she was on the inside. She did not want to shed any tears for that jerk ever. Some guys were not worth a second of your time, and Ava was so happy that she had never crossed the line with him. She would have hated herself till death.
"What?! You dare raise your voice at me?" Josh snapped and took a menacing step forward. At that time, two men flanked Ava’s side, and she felt a shadow loom over her, showing someone at her back.
Nicholas and Matt appeared on her left and right, while Rocky stood firmly at her back, his hands crossed.
Josh took a hesitant step back before he realized what he had done.
"Heheheheeee..... he does not have a bone to support his nasty words!" Matt spat out while the other two had their cold glares centred on Josh.
Matt and Nicholas were the two who would always have Rocky’s back in any way. They had also grown up and spent a few of their previous years with Ava, viewing her as their older sister. The three would never allow any harm to befall Ava if they could help it.
Ava looked around at the three, and her heart warmed up. She had backing, not that she would even need it. She was more than capable of handling a weakling like Josh any day.
Ava tapped Matt’s hand gratefully, then turned to the rest,
"I can handle this, thanks guys."
Of course, the three did not budge an inch and stepped forward.
"It is funny that you still have the guts to come here after all you have done!" Ava gritted out.
"You are my girlfriend! Why can-"
Ava raised her hand, stopping Josh mid-sentence.
"We have broken up and have nothing to do with each other. Whatever you are thinking of is just wishful thinking. We will never be what you think of. For someone as disgusting as you are, this is the best that I can do for you, so DO NOT overstep!"
Josh raised his hands, pointing at Ava as if that would change the words she had spoken.
"I never agreed to the breakup, so you are still mine!"
"Yours? Ha! What makes you think that you can own me? I blame myself for being blind and agreeing to date you that day. You are the true definition of trash, Josh. I don’t even have the mental capacity to think about the things that you have done. Don’t you have other girls in your bed as well? Why are you still chasing me? So that I can be the dessert for your meals?"
"You are the only stranger on this island if you think that I, Ava, would stoop so low as to take the leftovers of some random girl somewhere. I place myself above all in everything, and only the man who cherishes me that way will be allowed 50 meters of me!"
The people around could not help but snicker. Josh could muster only one word: ’you!’ Each word made him look ridiculous. Swya stepped further away, but she was gloating. Everything was happening just as she wanted. She just had to bid her time.
"Like him?" Josh spat out, looking straight at Ava, and she knew that he was referring to Rocky, who was behind her. Without missing a beat or even batting an eye,
"Yes, Like him! He will forever be more of a man than you would ever be in your life!"
Rocky’s heart skipped a beat, and the corners of his mouth lifted lightly showing his happiness. He did not like that Ava had to go through all of this on her own, but Rocky also knew and understood Ava enough to know that this was something that she needed to do herself.
However, Rocky’s heart hurt and went out to Ava for all that she had gone through with Josh.
Ava continued, "You are a coward, Josh. All looks and no substance! You disgust me and I never want to see you ever in my life!"
Josh stopped, unsure of what to say but still hurt at Ava’s swift response on that boy. He had wanted to spite them but never expected Ava to agree readily. The stupid smile on the boy’s face sparked a discomfort in him.
He tried to counter what was said, but Josh had never seen this Ava. This confident and firm girl made him lose all the composure he had come up with. He stood there, watching her with her arms on her waist as she stared him down in the presence of all gathered. Josh felt little, but he was trying not to let it seem obvious. Each moment weighed heavier than the last, and he did not know what to do.
Her movements were precise, no longer hurried or emotional as if she had finally made peace with what had to be done. This was what disturbed Josh the most. But he couldn’t shake the pit growing in his stomach, the creeping realization that he was losing her—for good.
No, he had lost her for good, and Josh could not accept it. His mind raced, replaying every moment they’d shared, the laughter, the quiet conversations, the way she’d looked at him with trust in her eyes. And now, that trust was gone, replaced by a cold finality. It was scary that the same eyes could show two startling looks.
"This all on you, Josh. I had tried. I really tried, and I did like you---- sometime in the past, but now, all I feel when I see you is repulsion!" she said quietly, still staring him down. The whole place had quietened down a little as more people gathered around them. Her voice was steady, but he could hear the hurt buried beneath it.
He flinched, his chest tightening with regret. Why is this happening? he thought. Sure, he had made mistakes—that mistake— Did it even count as a mistake? Josh was sure that he was not the only man to have ever done that in his life, so he could not understand why Ava was so stubborn! He came back to her and never called her out for being with that boy, but why did she have to do that? Josh still didn’t see it as the end of them.
Ava had to know that what happened didn’t mean anything, that it was just a moment of weakness, right? He wished she would look at it from that perspective.
"I-" he muttered, struggling to find the right words.
"It was just one stupid night and a moment of weakness for me! I never even called you out over that boy behind you! Why do you have to do this now? You’re... you’re too good to let go over this."
Ava smirked, her hands dropping limply by her. Josh had thought that she might reconsider. But then, she turned to face him, her eyes calm, drained of all the warmth they once held for him.
"Too good? You’re right—I was too good for this. I am too good for this! I do not want to be the one hurt and the one trying to understand your actions. I am not your mother."
The people around snickered at the ridiculousness of his words. It was silly no matter how they viewed it but it wasn’t their place to budge into the conversation.
His throat tightened at the notion that she meant every word. He hated this. He hated the fact that he was losing her. But deep down, a part of him still clung to the belief that he hadn’t done anything unforgivable. It was just a mistake, he told himself again, trying to justify it. He wasn’t a bad guy. He hadn’t treated her terribly. He hadn’t shouted, hadn’t been cruel. But none of that mattered now.
Without his anger, Josh felt a gnawing emptiness settle in his chest. Regret was not an emotion he wanted to feel, but Josh knew that Ava was one of a kind and did not want to let go.
A single thought still nagged at him: I didn’t really do anything that wrong, did I?
