Chapter 310: Chapter 310

That same evening... Mush mansion....

Brianna sat up on her bed and smiled brightly... a little too brightly for her, but given how giddy she was in anticipation for the upcoming events, nothing could dim that smile, except one tiny thing that made her mood slightly fluctuate.

Her mother, Abi, had just left her room, and Brianna was still fuming, even though days had passed since her punishment. Initially, Brianna thought her mother was calling her bluff, but little did she know Abi’s determination.

True to Abi’s words, Brianna had not been allowed to step even out of her room for most of the time. Brianna was under strict surveillance, and cameras had been installed in her room so that Abi could confirm where she was at each point in time from her phone.

Brianna did not want to see her mother, but Abi thought that her actions were in Brianna’s best interest. It was a mother’s instinct to protect her child.

However, Brianna was in a better mood on this day because her plan was about to be implemented. She had waited too long for this day, and her excitement was difficult to mask.

This behaviour also caught Abi’s attention, but Abi was in no mood to handle her daughter’s tantrums that evening.

Abi looked back at the closed door, instructed the two women stationed at it, and gave them a warning glare.

"Make sure that nothing unexpected happens!"

The two women stood straighter and crossed their arms. They were specially trained maids who had been with Abi for as long as she could remember. They were skilled in more than just maid arts. They were very versatile and had combat skills as well.

Abi hurried into her home office while making a call. She had been all over the place, trying different things, from making plans to get Brianna off the island to try to deal with the Thornstons... but none had worked out so far.

"What’s the status?!"

"I’m sorry, ma’am. We have been unsuccessful so far, and no other person wants to take on the task as well...." the voice from the other end of the phone told her basically the same thing she had been hearing repeatedly.

Abi massaged her forehead as tension built up. She sagged into her swivel chair and closed her eyes.

"Ma’am? Are you still there?" the person asked from the other end of the phone asked.

Abram walked into the room right then and then headed behind his wife, placing his hands on her shoulders, he started massaging her stiff muscles. They had been through this routine multiple times. Abi relaxed and smiled.

Abi had expected this. Making a move at Ian’s little wife was near impossible then, but she still wanted to try. Abi smiled up at Abram and continued her phone conversation, "I’ll double the money!"

"I’m sorry ma’am. It is not about money this time. I really am sorry."

The person hung up directly to Abi’s chagrin. She was a frequent client of the thugs, and even with her other, more powerful identity, her request had been rejected!

"It looks like, I really underestimated Ian’s reach and influence."

"How about we just go with your initial plan and get Brianna off the island?"

Abram said as he expertly kneaded Abi’s shoulders and neck.

"Mmmmmmm...." She sighed in contentment and dropped her phone on the desk.

"That would be the only way to keep her safe. I can’t help but think that something else is being planned! That makes me so uneasy! I am used to being the one who makes people uneasy, and I never thought that a day would come when I am that way!"

"Why do you say that?" Abram asked as he finally drew another chair and sat by his wife.

"That other girl, even though, was an adopted daughter of the Thornston family, is still being hunted like the most wanted criminal. Why do you think that Brianna’s name is not on the wanted list too?"

"Maybe, because our Brianna is Shelby’s friend?"

"Huh! After she tried to kill her? There is no saint like that. This is what makes me even more uneasy! I don’t know what they are planning! Even my subordinates do not dare take on the task! This is killing me on the inside!"

"I know dear. I am also worried, but didn’t you say yesterday that the other task against Geneva Thornston is through?"

"Of course! It’s all good now, for Geneva Thornston, there is no one to put her in her place than her husband’s family. We just need to keep Brianna safe enough for that banquet, and then all will be okay."

"Why are you apprehensive of that boy and not his mother?"

Abi let out a sarcastic laugh, "For the simple reason that he is capable and does not have a bottom line when it comes to dealing out ’punishments.’ I know that no matter how fierce Geneva is, she will always stay within the legal bounds but Ian? .... not so much. Any person willing to go beyond those lengths should be feared."

Abi shuddered as if some memory was terrorizing her at that moment, then she continued,

"With how much he seems to have that girl in his eyes, it’s no brainer to know that our Brianna has touched the untouchable!"

"... but if that is the case, then why are we...."

"Like Geneva, the new wife to the heir of that family must be accepted by all and that is what we are banking on. We are a more suited family than that girl from the criminal!"

Abram kissed his wife’s cheeks and then they both stood up,

"Let’s get ready for the festival. We can’t miss the stakeholders’ meeting." As they left the office, Abi’s singular thought was:

’I only have one daughter in this life, and I am prepared to do anything to protect her, even from herself!’

Her plans were in place, and they could get Brianna off the island using the festival as a cover that night. They could not afford to use normal means as this may catch the attention of the person they were trying to avoid. What they did not know then was that they were just like an animal in a cage, thinking that their cage was the world and they had free range.

Back in Brianna’s room, she pulled out her drawer and brought that exquisite box she had received days before.

She hugged the box close and then quickly brought out a small bag that she had prepared. It contained a dress and some necessities. As Brianna added a few toiletries to the bag, her mother’s voice echoed in her head,

’You will stay put here until your father and I find a place for you and send you off this island!’

She scoffed at that, thinking, ’As if you can prevent me from meeting my destiny!’

Brianna sat on her bed, still in her pyjamas, and then texted an unknown contact.

"Stay put; she will help you out."

Brianna knew who the ’she’ was. It was that maid who had previously slipped the gift to her. The maid was the only person she could trust in the home then, and because of that, Brianna treated this maid with care... something she had never done in her life.

"Ok! [smiley emoticon!]"

Brianna texted back and then waited. She trusted this person because she believed he acted on Ian’s behalf.

’I knew Ian was just playing hard-to-get because of that witch! After tonight, we’ll finally get rid of Shelby, and Ian will all be mine! After all, why would he let me go after what I tried? He even persecuted his adopted sister but let me be. He instead sent me a gift!’

Brianna was all smiles and then placed that box in her bag and relaxed on her bed. She had all but dozed off when a knock sounded on her door.

After three short knocks, the door opened, and Brianna’s smile widened as she saw the maid she had now become used to, her literal saviour.

"Quick! Miss. Your parents just left!"

The maid whispered, but Brianna did not think twice. She rushed out and only spared a few seconds glance at the two women who seemed to sound asleep, standing!

Brianna did not want to know what had happened to them. She stepped out quickly and followed the maid out of the back doors and into a waiting inconspicuous car.

The maid turned back and returned to her duties that night as if nothing had happened. She knew this would never be able to be traced back to her, as the man had promised her.

She smirked, shaking her head at the little Miss’s stupidity.

’I have finally avenged you! Stay safe, wherever you are, and I’m sorry that you had to go through that!’

She dabbed at the tear that threatened to come out as her thoughts veered to that gory image that was Brianna’s screensaver image: her one friend, who had suffered so much just based on the whim of a rich brat!

It only took about half an hour for Brianna’s car to arrive at the festival grounds. She got out of the vehicle as if she was being chased.

"What kind of rickety car is this?! Couldn’t they have done better?" She snapped at no one in particular, and she started getting angry at the maid who had helped her get there. She had complained throughout the ride, but the driver had never commented. It was as if he was deaf.

"Never mind! I will settle those scores with her later!"

"Miss, do you want me to wait for you?" The driver finally asked,

"So, you talk?" Brianna scoffed,

"Why would you? Get your old car and scram!" Brianna snapped and headed for the nearest bathroom she could find, without waiting.

She quickly changed into what she felt was her killer dress and put on the beautiful earrings Ian had sent her.

"Ian, baby... just a little while. Wait for just a few minutes, and I’ll be there...." she said to herself, then pulled out her phone to confirm the location.

"Such a naughty man! I knew he was mine and mine only. I wonder why he played so hard to get.... Smh..."

She smiled at her reflection through the bathroom mirror, discarded her old clothes and stepped out, turning heads, and she swung her hips towards her ’man’.
