Chapter 266: Chapter 266

Ava whispered, clearly surprised. She had never expected to find him in there as she had taken quite a while in the bathroom. Ava had been backing on the fact that he would tire and leave so that she did not have to talk to him.

"I thought that he would leave after I had entered the bathroom," Ava whipped, not even believing the statement herself.

She walked up to her bed on the floor and then sat down by him. Ava took in Rocky’s features in his sleeping posture. Sandy blond hair, long lashes...

She shook her head and then got up, then helped Rocky remove his shoes. Ava slipped back into the bed after verifying that the doors were securely locked. She propped herself on her arms and studied Rocky’s long lashes, gently trailing her fingers on them and making sure that she did not wake him up. Ava gently pushed his sandy blond hair out of the way.

If Shelby were a man without her witchy charms, she would have been Rocky as per his looks. The both of them, resembled their mother in terms of physique but not their attitude, thankfully.

Rocky had done so much for Ava and had almost unknowingly wormed his way into her. It was just that Ava was not one to accept such... so easily.

"Thank you for looking out for me, Rocky," Ava whispered, caressing Rocky’s hair.

She shook her head again, as if doing that would clear her head. For the past few days, Ava had tried to strengthen her resolve when it came to the boy who was on her bed at that time.

"Shelby is in the hospital, and this is not the time to be thinking about such things, Ava...." She chided herself. Thinking back, Ava knew that she had not been overly heartbroken over Josh because she was not willing to accept the fact that maybe.... Just maybe, someone else had occupied that part of her..

"Ava! Remember that you do not match him. He is way younger than you are. Do I want to mess up his life because of my selfishness? He has a whole lot ahead of him and cannot be saddled with someone like me. Besides, Shelby may not be too happy about all of this...." Ava sighed and then pulled the covers over Rocky.

She turned and gave her back to him, pushing the covers back so that they were both not underneath it at the same time. This also created a small block between them.

She closed her eyes tightly, and the scene flashed by for Ava when Rocky rushed into the hospital. She had intentionally kept away from him and made a resolve, but everything came crashing down as soon as she had seen him.

Ava finally drifted to sleep with images of Rocky flashing underneath her lids.

Rocky opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling when her breathing evened out. He had actually been lying down when he had heard Ava come out of the bathroom and decided to feign that he was asleep in the spur of the moment.... And it paid off!

Ava had not elaborated on most things, but Rocky could perfectly understand. He gently pulled Ava from the edge of the bed into his arms so that his head rested on his arms like a pillow.

Rocky pulled the covers around both of them and then finally closed his eyes to sleep with a wide smile. He had heard all of Ava’s monologue, and that made Rocky giddier than he would have expected. Those few words had given him an insight into Ava that Rocky was never privy to and may have never been given how stubborn Ava was.

In the hospital, Geneva refused to leave and was given a room to stay in, too. Alex had no choice but to stay there with her. Murray stood guard outside the room, not allowing just anyone to come in. He and Currey knew that there was more threat than what was seen on the CCTVs and, therefore, had their guards up. Of course, with just his computer, Currey could get a lot done, despite the location.

It took nearly the whole night for Ian to stir awake. He pulled himself from the grasp of something strong. It was as if he had pulled himself from a very deep sleep.

Ian stared at the unfamiliar ceiling and then turned when he heard a slight noise.

"Master Ian!" Suzie whispered and then ran out to call Murray in.

"Where... how is she?" He managed to ask. Suzie knew that the query was of no one other than Shelby. Ian’s care for his wife was just through the roof, and it would have been weird if that question was about his mother.

"Miss Shelby is doing well. She has stabilized, but she is not out of the woods yet."

It did not take long for a doctor to come and check on him. Like all the tests they had run prior, Ian was the definition of good health. The health professionals were not sure of what had caused him to collapse the night before.

"How do you feel, Chairman Ian?" The doctor asked as they completed all the vital checks.

"Glad to hear. We will keep you for a day for observations first, and then we can discuss your discharge."

Ian nodded and then reached for Shelby’s hand from his bed. Their beds were very close then, and it was no issue for him to do that.

Seeing this, the doctor and the other health professionals excused themselves after checking on Shelby, too.

Given the circumstances, Suzie resumed her activities, wiping down Shelby and trying to make her as presentable as possible. She worked around the tubes connected to Shelby, and her heart hurt. ’Please be okay, Miss Shelby!’ Suzie prayed fervently in her heart.

Alex and Geneva came in at that time, too.

"Ian, OMG! How are you? You got me so worried!"

"I’m fine. Don’t worry too much." However, Ian allowed his mother to fuss over him despite all these.

"Don’t tire yourself over me. I heard that you have not had much sleep."

"Who said that!" Geneva asked, and Ian smiled.

"Suzie, help mum to go lie down a bit. She needs the rest."

"Do you mean that I am old?!"

"Of course you are! Isn’t it only old people who demand grandchildren?" Alex smiled, especially when he saw that Geneva could not refute this. But that talk reminded Geneva of something that she had overlooked: her grandchild! ’Ok, this is not the time to be asking of this!’ she thought.

"Alright! Suzie, help me back."

Alex kissed Geneva’s temple and whispered, "I’ll be with you soon."

Geneva nodded and allowed herself to be guided away.

Alex took a seat and then nodded at Murray and Currey.

"Brad will help and manage the press in the interim. Just take the time to recuperate. The doctors said that you were stressed. I don’t want a repeat of this, so just take as much time as you need to get back. I will take over-"

"Hold on, old man. I am not made of fragile glass. Do not worry about things at the company. I will handle things."

"Don’t worry, Dad, I am sure." This was one of the few moments when Ian addressed his father as such.

Alex nodded and then gestured towards the two assistants again,

"What exactly happened? Have you checked into this?"

"It was planned primarily by Brianna Mush and Avril Pound." They added the surnames as if to make Ian understand who exactly they were referring to.

"Avril too?" Ian was somewhat surprised at that name and more so disappointed. He did not like his supposed sister much but Ian still considered her family in a way.

"I’m sorry, Ian. I caused this...."

Ian turned to his father. "None of this has anything to do with you, so don’t fret, old man."

While Ian was taking it, he propped himself up and caressed Shelby’s hand. It was as if doing that reassured him, as he could still not feel Shelby and his link. It was something that Ian had taken for granted... like the air he breathed, so to find that it was gone was unsettling.

"Dad, you know you had no hand in this. I’ve got it, so don’t worry. However, I hope you do not tell me you want to protect Avril after all of this."

Alex sighed, "No, Avril has crossed the line now, and I have washed myself off her. Whatever her father did for me does not warrant the near murder of my daughter-in-law."

"I hope you stand by your words."

Alex nodded and finally stood up. "I’ll go accompany your mother." Ian nodded and watched as his father left.

That same morning, Ava stirred awake and opened her eyes to find herself in Rocky’s arms.

"What the hell!" She scrambled back.

"How did I find myself here?" With her hand on her heart, Ava calmed her stomping heart when she noticed that Rocky was still asleep.

"TG that he did not notice this. It would have been too embarrassing,"

Ava whispered and attempted to get back, but then, looking at Rocky’s resting face, Ava could not help but caress it slightly.

"He is so handsome, but he is not for me and now way out of my league."

Ava leaned over Rocky and watched his chest’s slight rise and fall. Slowly, Ava leaned over and pecked his lips. It was a spontaneous action.

’Oh no!’ She thought and then tried to move back out of instinct, only to meet those familiar blue eyes staring at her with such clarity that Ava shrieked. Ava never made it out of the bed as Rocky grabbed her head and met her lips halfway in a startling French kiss.
