Chapter 201: Chapter 201

Ava did not return to the Thornstons after leaving the Wendover household. Her mind was a mess. This was becoming a bit too rampant in the days that the boy she thought would remain as such started to profess his love to her.

She could no longer brush those words aside, even if Ava did not want to admit it. Rocky had manned up over the few days after his father’s issues. The thing was, Ava was in some sort of a state where she was having endless arguments with herself.

’Why am I even spending so much time thinking about this boy?’

’You know that he is NOT a boy, right? You’re just in self-denial!’

"Yeah, right! The last thing I need in my life now!" Ava whispered in the empty room, turning over and grabbing her phone. She needed to do anything to distract the conversation going on in her mind. However, it only took a few short seconds for her to throw the phone to the side. The phone was buzzing, as it had been like most of that evening. The calls were from no other than Josh.

"Does he think that I am a push-over of a sort?"

Ava did not think Josh deserved her time for even one second. She did not even feel like he deserved to be told, "Let’s break up." This was for the simple reason that it would require her precious time to do that.

"I’ll just continue to ignore him. He disgusts the hell out of me."

Saying this, she couldn’t help but still feel upset at the call she had last had with him or, rather, when she had listened in on his sexual escapade with another girl.

"Josh really thinks that I am a fool. First, that incident when he just stood there idle, waiting for me to be molested right in my room! That hurt so bad. Why would a normal human being do that? Not to talk of even a boyfriend!"

Of course, when Ava said this, the person who came to her mind was Rocky!

"Ahhhhh!!!" Ava rubbed her hair furiously. On one side, there was Josh, who she did not want anything to do with; on the other, there was Rocky.... Who... she also did not want to do anything- scratch that... Ava just did not know what to do with the man who had already professed himself as her future husband.

"Focus, Ava!" she said to herself, slapping her cheeks.

"... oh, I even forgot about the audio file and the nonsense he sported there.... Smh. It looks like my eyes need to be checked because I have poor taste in men. Or maybe deep down, I did know and that’s why I never told Shelby about Josh." Ava sighed and then started humming softly to herself, not willing her mind to revisit the sex call she had listened in on, even if that recall took place in her mind.

She was stuck in her thoughts because, when she did that, her mind and thoughts just veered off to Rocky!

"Ava, snap out of it!"

.... And this is how Ava spent her night.

Her eyes were bloodshot as she had had no sleep the whole night. How could she sleep?

Rocky had done it again. It was as if the man was tenured in the art and ways of seducing a woman and getting to her heart. It was especially Rocky’s final words to Ava that had kept her awake.

How can any woman survive those words? Looking deeply into her eyes, he had said,

"I will marry you, Ava. However, it will be in a way that will make everyone celebrate us. I will work hard to give you a worry-free life!"

Ava momentarily found herself in a daze, nodding to Rocky’s words.

Her heart had shaken so violently, and she was stunned, speechless. Ava clenched her fists so tight that her nails dug into her palms, causing them to bruise and bleed out. This was enough to get her back to her bearings.

She had stood up abruptly,

Without a backward glance, Ava had left. This was why and how Ava had left the Wendevor mansion the day before.

After she had left, Rocky smiled. He knew exactly what he was doing. He made due to his words and called the thugs, leaving instructions. It almost looked like he was their new boss, as they listened to every word he had spoken. However, Rocky knew that whatever they did was for their livelihood, so their reward for ’taking care’ of Marvin was overly generous.

Ava sighed, realizing it was already dawn. Ava started browsing casually on her phone because Josh’s calls had eventually stopped, and that was when she saw the news. Her mouth dropped open in surprise.

She dialled Rocky’s number instinctively, only to be met with a busy tone. Unknown to her, Rocky was also calling at that time. It took mere seconds after she had hung up for Rocky’s call to come through.

"Would you like to come over?" Ava found herself asking. The words surprised her as much as they did Rocky on the other side of the call.

That low magnetic voice was the first thing she heard when she stirred awake that morning. She smiled, thinking, ’I don’t mind waking up to this every single day!’

’I can hear her thoughts again!’ That made him so happy that he wanted to hug her tight.

He looked at her half-confused yet delighted face as she finally opened her eyes and stretched her arms to relieve her slightly cramped muscles. Ian’s eyes rested on her face as if she was the most precious thing ever. His eyes and mouth coordinated, showing his pleasure upon seeing this. The involuntary smile could not be helped.

Ian’s gaze was different from that of all the men who usually looked at her. He looked like he was adoring her in strange ways.

"Yes," she whispered, drawing the sheets up to her chin to hide her nakedness, while blushing deeply, yet again.

Ian smiled even wider.

"You can sleep more..." he encouraged, but Shelby shook her head and sat up. Her matted hair, still lightly swollen mouth, and overall morning look enticed him.

"I’m going to wash myself,"

Shelby said, standing up with the whole duvet off the bed wrapped around her.

Ian shook his head with a smile.

Shelby rushed into the bathroom and came out a little later in a bathrobe.

Ian stretched out his hand to her, and she hesitated.

Ian’s smile broadened.

"I promise, I wouldn’t do anything...." His mind also travelled to the night before.

He stretched out and pulled her to the bed, wrapping his arms around her.

Shelby shook her head, relaxing in his embrace. Of course, she wasn’t because Ian had made her a hearty meal that evening after their intense sex.

"Why won’t you ask me about your friend?" Ian asked suddenly.

"No, she’s a good one. I mean the other one...."

"She is not worth our time!"

Ian stopped and turned Shelby around to look at her. He was a little surprised at that.

"Good thinking. You should stay away from such ’friend.’"

Even though they had already somewhat had a similar conversation, at this time, Shelby’s resolve had been firmed up.

"Let me handle her..."

"What are you going to do?" Shelby asked.

"Use her own plan against her... what else? This kind of revenge is the best! We will just grant her, her wish!"

Shelby chuckled and leaned forward, stretched and kissed Ian’s cheeks.

"Is this all I get?" He teased,

At this time, certain words that Brianna had spoken surfaced in Ian’s head,

’Shelby says one thing with her mouth and then does another thing with her body! With that witchy good look of hers, that is all that she is good for anyway.... Opening her legs! I should grant that wish for her, though, just not with my man!’

’That ’wanna be’ rich girl should look at her means before targeting my wife! I have not even settled the score of her trying to loop me in with a mere port! The audacity of their family!’

Shelby caressed Ian’s cheeks; her heart overflowed with warmth. She leaned towards him and rested her cheeks against his bare chest.

"Thank you for being there for me and for everything." She looped her hands through and circled around his waist.

His eyes cringed with tenderness, overflowing so much that he sighed and gathered her closer, resting his chin on her head.

"Silly, who else would I do anything for if not you?"

Ian narrowed his eyes.

She was literally his whole life then. His life had no meaning if she was not in it. In fact, Ian could not think of a life without her. He started to wonder how he had lived without her all those years, and his mind came up blank.

Shelby straightened suddenly, making Ian’s arms fall off of her,

"Besides, Suzie told me about all that happened. She said that Ava slapped Brianna and .... "

Ian watched as Shelby described what had happened with shining eyes. However, he was a bit worried, ’How would she react when she finds out about James?’
