Chapter 171: Chapter 171

Brianna stormed out of her car almost as soon as it came to a halt. In fact, because it had not entirely stopped, she almost tripped in her heels for doing that. She steadied herself by hanging on to the door. Her face was contorted in anger so pure that the first maid who had been approaching the car stopped short in her tracks.

"Do you want to kill me?!" Brianna turned and snapped at the driver, who was trying hard to maintain his composure but failing miserably. It had been the longest drive he had ever had in his life.

Even though he did not know the details of what had happened back at the Thornston Estate, he could deduce that it had gone very badly for his mistress. The man was used to Brianna’s rude ways as he was her personal driver, but he couldn’t help but think that he had lost a few years of his life from that short drive and its related stress.

The tension in the car and around Brianna had been so thick that he could not help but think that a knife could be used to cut it.

He stepped out of the car and ran around to Brianna.

"I am so sorry, Miss Brian-"

"You over there, let them know to deduct a month’s salary from his pay!"

The driver’s mouth dropped open, but he knew from experience that he dared not say anything to get further punishment.

"Thank you for your consideration, Miss Brianna."

He bowed, gritted his teeth, and uttered those words of gratitude.

"Humf!" Brianna harrumphed and turned from him, still fuming, as she stormed into the house, stomping her feet.

He straightened and then turned to the car, sighing. The mess left in the back was a sight to behold. Part of the seat was ripped with a sharp object.

’It must have been really bad for her this time.... But I thought that was her friend’s home. Anyway, it’s not my place to say anything; besides, her parents own this, and they would pay for it,’ he thought as he started noting down the damages that needed to be fixed on the car.

"What’s going on with her?" The maid who had initially stepped out got close to him and asked.

"How would I know?" The driver replied in exasperation. He wanted no other issues and quickly looked over his shoulder, sighing in relief when he noted that she was already gone.

"You better get in there before she starts scr-"

"WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU!"

The driver raised his eyebrow at the maid as if to say, ’I told you so!’

The maid ran back into the house.

"Miss, I am sorry, I-"

Even though three other maids stood in a neat line, Brianna threw her high heels at the maid just as she came into her line of sight. The pencil heels missed her eye by just a fraction, but it still grazed her temple because she managed to move back instinctively. It still left a long thin line that started to ooze with blood.

"Do I have to call you before you do your JOB!"

The girl dropped to her knees, shaking in fear.

"I’m sorry, Miss, This will-"

"I don’t want to see her face ever again! Fire her!"

"Oh no, Miss, I am so sorry! It would never happen again. I-"

"Do I look like a charity case for you? Like someone who tolerates nonsense? You better get out of my sight before I -"

The maid scrambled to her feet and ran out of the room. She, of all people, knew what Brianna was capable of, but then, there was the problem of whether they would really let her go out of the residence.

She bumped into Abi just outside their hall.

"I’m sorry, ma’am...." She was so flustered so much that she did not know what to do.

She trembled, knowing very well that she had hopped from the frying pan to the fire directly.

"What’s going on here?"

Abi finally walked into her large hall, taking in the scene of her daughter’s angry stance. She was in front of the fridge with a large bottle of coke in her hand. On the floor were littered food, pastries, fruits, veggies, snacks, and the like.

’It must be that bad!’

Abi thought just as Abram also came in after her.

"Oh, my baby! Who wronged you? Come to Daddy!"

Brianna shoved a large handful of chips into her mouth as many fell off to the floor; some also got stuck between her many necklaces and between the swell of her breasts.

Brianna ate a lot when she was upset, and that is why Abi knew that something major had happened.

Brianna turned to her father and walked into his embrace. Abi rolled her eyes at them and took a seat.

With one glare, the maid sprang into action, and within minutes, the place was back in shape, as tidy as it was usually.

Abi signalled Abram so that he brought Brianna from the open-concept kitchen into the adjourning hall.

"What happened, Brianna dear?"

Abi had not even expected a response from her, but her daughter just opened up,

"That witch!" She heaved up and down in a fit of pure and deep anger, and her mother started getting worried about her health. As Brianna recounted, she started crying but not because she was sad; she had gotten to the point of immense frustration that tears flowed freely. As she continued her narration, both Abi and Abram noticed the red finger marks on her cheeks.

"Who slapped you?" They both asked at the same time.

That was when Brianna remembered that slap.

"Isn’t it that Ava! Mum, Dad, you must seek justice for me! Just because she has secured a job there, she thinks that she is above everyone! She dared to slap me! You must make her remember her place!"

Abi’s eyes turned cold and even Abram’s usually jovial smile fell off. He got up and brought the first aid kit to tend to his daughter.

"Leave that to mum; I will handle that for you."

True to Abi’s words, she did not even wait and sent a message on her phone.

"Don’t worry; she will live to regret what she has done! All of them will regret what they have done!"

Brianna continued shoving the snacks into her mouth as more tears ran down her cheeks. However, her resolve only increased.

"Ouch! Dad, it hurts!" She said it through her mouthful of food as Abram tried to disinfect the redness left behind by the slap. Abram also winced as he felt tears prick his eyes.

’Oh, my poor daughter!’

Abi had been outlining a plan to him earlier that had felt was unnecessary but at that moment, seeing the pain that his only daughter was in, he turned to his wife,

Wendover residence....

"Where is my mother?" Rocky asked as he walked into the house. He had made it a point to come home at least every couple of days after this issue with his father had started. His studies were important, but Clara was a ticking time bomb in a way; he had a hunch that he had to pay extra attention to her actions and inactions.

He still needed to talk to his brother-in-law but with the issue with his sister, he understood that Ian was busy. That actually made him happier because it told him that his sister was number one in Ian Thornston’s heart. Nothing made Rocky happier than that.

"Madam Clara went out, sir,"

It was Angela, Clara’s personal maid, who responded. Rocky turned to fully face her, making the thirty-five-year-old woman flinch.

Angela could not pinpoint what had changed, but the young master seemed to have gained a different aura after his father had been arrested.

In fact, they had been discussing that among themselves just before Rocky came in. They were afraid of the ruthlessness of James Wendover because they had seen some of his cruel actions first-hand.

Once, they had seen him slap someone so hard that, that person had lost half of his teeth. There were rumours among them that James had even killed before, but no one had seen him do that. There was no source, but they all knew to stay clear from James in any way.

The females, especially, knew what would happen if they encountered James while he was high on drugs, but with Rocky, it was different. The innocent boy disappeared overnight, and in his place, was a very mature man. They knew instinctively that they could not continue joking around with Rocky as they had done since he was a child for some reason.

"What do you mean that she has gone out."

"Even if she has done that, why are you still here? Didn’t I instruct you to stay with her at all times?"

"I’m sorry, Master Rocky, I couldn’t stop her... I..."

"Why did you not call me if you could not stop her?"

Rocky gave up and then turned from Angela, walking briskly up the stairs.

In a taxi, fast approaching the legal prosecutors’ offices, Clara was pensive, biting her lips and wringing her hands nervously. She only had one thought that was motivating her decision and movements.

’His sentencing is tomorrow, No! I can’t go back to that time! I have to take matters into my own hands and get James out!’
