Chapter 148: Chapter 148
*Reader discretion is advised. *
Josh was pissed off beyond reason. First, his girl dared to ’enjoy’ herself with two thugs, and then, her other baby pursuer had the audacity to punch him in the face?
He crouched low and held his palms over his nose, which was still oozing with blood.
"It must be broken!" He mumbled to himself in pain as he remembered the small crunch sound upon contact.
"Damn! It hurts bad! That guy draws a mean punch! He will regret this!"
He staggered to his feet, holding onto the nearest wall to curb the dizzy wave that washed over him and turned determined to give Rocky the same or an even dire fate.
Josh pinched his nose and tilted his head back for just a short while, until he felt the dizziness subside, then he charged towards Ava’s room, only to stop abruptly in his tracks.
A few people had also started gathering in front of the building and stretching their necks to try and find out what all the ruckus was about.
However, they had seen the two thugs lunging around for the better part of the day; therefore, they did not want to risk anything by going too near to be impacted.
The level-headed thug was still by the wall, gingerly touching his legs that were bent at an awkward angle; he was screaming out loud. Wailing as if it could bring out all the pain he was feeling at that moment. Gone was the tough-looking man; in his place was a man howling like a little girl with tears running down his face.
The state of the second thug was what startled Josh the most. Josh felt his breath hitch as he took in the sight. His hands left his nose as a trickle of blood seeped out. He was not in the state of mind to pay attention to that, though.
This was because, at that time, his hands had inched unknowingly to his neck, and he winced as if he was the one going through whatever the man was going through. Even though Josh had not seen what had happened, his mind was in a good enough state to imagine what had happened to the man.
The man’s eyes were rolled back, and he was making weird gurgling sounds. His hand was clutching his throat, and it was obvious that he could not breathe. He was choking, and it was a difficult sight to look at. In order to try and relieve himself, he rolled and kicked on the small space on the ground, trying to get air into his lungs, but that seemed futile.
It never occurred to Josh to step into the room at all. He had no business in the very crowded room, and he knew it. ’What is going on? Is this guy a fool enough to disturb the fun times of these three?’
Josh thought to himself. He was truly puzzled, especially when he could feel the rage bubbling off the young man. Unknowingly to Josh, he had started referring to Rocky as such and not just a boy, as he usually had done in the past, even in his mind.
Josh’s eyes roamed the room and finally landed on Ava.
’What is wrong with her? I must say, she is a good actress acting as if she had been victimized when she had clearly led them on. I should be wary of her going forward.’ Josh’s thoughts were a sort of a mess, but it all made sense to him.
’I should probably find my opening to go comfort her so that I can score some points. Who knows, if I play the pity card, she might let me complete what they could not finish today....’ His mouth lifted slightly, and that was when Ava’s eyes landed on his.
Rocky stood there staring at the two thugs indifferently. Rocky had had too much of a rollercoaster-like morning. His thoughts and innermost feelings were a mess and the he had truly sought comfort from his beloved. Rocky knew that he had ’grown up’ too fast in that past few hours since his mother had called him about his father’s arrest.
When he had chanced upon them in the room, the little rationality he had left evaporated swiftly. For once, he was glad that he had constantly trained his body and exercised. Despite the fact that his physique did not reflect this; he had immense strength beneath that lanky frame.
It seemed like nature itself was pushing him to do something out of his usual actions that day. From Josh, the day before, to his mother, his father and then back to the stupid Josh again, not to talk to of the thugs who seemed not to think at all. He wondered what their heads were in place for.
Rocky had not held back one bit when he had attacked them, and as a medical student, he knew what to do in order to inflict the most pain on a person.
Like any doctor in training, he knew what could kill a person as well. One had to know the killing indicators in order to save someone. He had exerted just the right pressure to harm enough, but not to kill.
Rocky had loved medicine since childhood, so he had somewhat trained himself through certain things before his enrollment in the Medical school, so one could say that he knew what he was doing.
Rocky then immediately turned to look at Ava. His Ava was crouched at the furthest end of the bed, in a fetal position. She was shaking so badly that it tore at his heart.
Rocky went on his knees on the bed, his own issues that had brought him there long forgotten. He moved slowly towards her and removed his coat, draping it over her. Her top was torn right through at the front, and she was clutching it tightly.
He noted her hands also trembling. Rocky patted her shoulders slightly, and that was when he sensed another presence from the minimal light streaming in and also from the fact that Ava’s eyes were focused on the entrance of the room.
He turned to meet Josh, making the older guy stumble back hastily.
Josh mustered a little courage and took one step forward, "Ava, are you okay? Look what that brat did to -"
Ava slowly sat up straight on the bed in a way that broke Rocky’s heart. She was putting up a brave front, and it pained him greatly.
Ava was still scared shitless, but she was no fool. She really had thought that it was her end in the hands of the two thugs, but then Rocky had stormed in like that. If Josh was also hurt and claimed that Rocky had done it, then she could at least deduce what the issue was. However, at that time, she was too mentally fatigued to deal with that boyfriend of hers.
She sagged back down on the bed, and Rocky supported her, turning his cold eyes back to meet that of Josh’s.
Whatever plans Josh had or whatever he had been about to say dissipated right before his eyes. He turned and ran as quickly as he had gotten there.
At the bottom of the stairs, he paused and looked back up and then at the group of people still gathered.
"What are you looking at?!" He shouted but then wondered why the heck he was running!
Ava took all these in. She was distressed but not to the point of insanity. She felt so overwhelmed. Just when she thought all was lost, Rocky, the young man she thought of as a boy, charged in and saved her yet again. That left her very complicated.
Rocky did not invade her personal space at this time, even though he itched to do that.
"Are you okay?" He whispered,
Rocky stood up at that time, making her feel hollow. She gathered her arms around herself and that was when she turned her attention to the other two in the room with them.
Rocky stood up and turned to the man who was wheezing a little less then. It seemed like he was finding it a bit easier to breathe. Rocky crouched by him,
"Remember this feeling the next time you think about touching my girl! You will NOT go scot-free. ... there will NOT be a next time!"
Rocky stretched his hand out, and Bull-headed flinched, still struggling as his face reddened all up from the predicament he was in. Rocky leaned over him and then stood right up then.
Bull-headed thug scrambled up and headed for the door.
He froze and turned to Rocky, fear clouding his eyes.
"Don’t forget your brother."
He inched back, moved the door away with difficulty, and then helped Level-headed thug up. He helped him hop, and the two wobbled out of the room, their grunts echoing after them.
What none of the observers could see was that Rocky was trembling on the inside, but he held a tough front.
After the two left, he entered Ava’s bathroom and brought out a toolbox. He heaved the door up and then set to work repairing it. All he had to do was nail the hinges back, which was no task for him. It only took him about half an hour.
He closed it firmly and out of prying eyes, then turned back to look at Ava.
