"Whoosh!" Josh let out an involuntary sigh of relief as Rocky exited Ava’s room in haste. He had only met the boy for a few short moments spanning barely half an hour, but he hated his guts to the pits of his stomach.

"What’s that sound for?"

"Nothing, babe; I am just glad that he is out of our hair, and I can have you all to myself!"

Josh approached Ava and encircled his arms around her waist.

However, Ava was really not in the mood for anything. Her thoughts were on the phone call Rocky had received.

’I hope that everything is okay with Clara!’

She never paid much heed to Rocky’s rumblings about being the better boyfriend. She just wondered why he had brought it up there. Rocky had been saying those words to her since he was about fourteen or fifteen. She just took it as he was playing with her, but it was about time she put a stop to it.

’Isn’t he too old for some childish games?’

It was one of those ’I will marry you when I grow up’ kind of situations, and Ava was starting to tire of it in a way. She wasn’t even sure of how to approach that topic because she had always let it slide, and she was fond of Rocky very much.

’Should I call Shelby to find out more about what might be going on?’

Thinking of Shelby, she remembered the text invitation.

’Oh no, how could I have forgotten that? I-’

"Hey, what’s going on in that pretty head of yours?"

Josh noticed that Ava was not paying attention to him, so he slid his hands lower and capped her bum, moulding them in his hands.

"Now, I got your attention!" He smiled and nuzzled the crook of her shoulder and neck, nibbling away.

"But why? We have the time alone, and I have been meaning for us to cross the line. Your body is meant to be worshipped and adored, and I am just the right man to do that!"

"I mean it, please stop. We have only been dating a few weeks, and even in that time, I have only seen you a few days at most. I don’t feel comfortable doing anything now!"

He went for her lips, and Ava turned away and pushed him back with all her might, startling him.

"When I say NO, I mean it!"

"Okay!" Annoyance flashed across Josh’s face, and he snapped.

" If you don’t want to today, we can always continue from where we left off...."

"That is not going to happen, Josh. I need you to get to know me as a person first. Get to know who Ava is and not just lust after my body! When we get there, it will be natural that I would want to do this, but not before then! You hardly spend time with me, and the only time you do come around, all you think about is sex!"

"What do you mean by that, Ava? Is it because of that boy? You were never !"

"Maybe that was because you never knew me nor cared to know me!"

"That boy was getting on my nerves too much! I guess I now know where he got his courage from-"

"I don’t appreciate your tone of voice in reference to him. Please get out, Josh!"

"Yes!" She turned her back to him until she heard the door close, and then Ava let her body relax.

Josh descended the stairs two at a time, fuming and dialled a number.

"Who does she think she is? I’m just coming out of that chicken coop; she calls a studio apartment. Who would even give a fancy name to that? It would serve its purpose later on, though. I can’t believe I tried to flatter that thing!" He shouted just as the call connected. He stepped out of the building and continued talking loudly on the phone in his rage.

"That Ava girl should be glad that I, Josh, am even willing to consider her. She is lucky that she has such a nice body. All I want from her is a good fuck! With some of the other girls, we were done in a day and, at most, a week.

Why is she still sitting on her high horse when she would spread her legs for me sooner or later? Ah! Man! The thought of her pussy is making me so hard! I need to find someone to relieve myself for now and then maybe up my game on her. I need to finish with her by next week and then move on to that new chick in town."

He stopped talking as he listened to the other person on the phone with him. Suddenly, all the hairs on his back raised as if imminent danger was approaching. That was when he noticed that he had entered a lone dark alley.

He stopped, his hand trembling slightly as he looked around.

The place creeped the hell out of him. All he had to do was turn, but Josh could not bring himself to. He heard slow and steady footsteps approaching him, and he bolted.

Rocky came to a standstill precisely where Josh had been moments before and studied the retreating figure. To say that he was pissed off was really an understatement. He clenched his phone tightly and then cancelled the taxi he had just booked. He sent a text to his mother and then turned back, headed to Ava’s place.

The fury rolling off of him was so bad that he had to pause on the landing, taking in deep breaths before he knocked and entered.

He saw Ava’s back to him, and she said, without turning,

"Josh, please, not today. Just go back."

"... and if I don’t want to?"

"Rocky? Why are you back?"

Rocky studied Ava’s beautiful face, and his heart caught in his throat. He had not wanted to, but determination filled him, and he covered the two steps between them confidently.

"I came back for this!"

Rocky, cupped Ava’s chin and leaned down to brush his lips over hers.

"What the hell do you think you are doing, Rocky?"

He swooped in and covered her mouth in his, holding her in a tight grip.

She tried to move but could not, and her heart thumped really fast in her chest.

’What am I doing? Shelby will kill me!’

In her struggle, she opened her mouth, and Rocky did not miss his chance; he swooped his tongue in and angled her chin so that he could get better access to her. He did not miss any little advantage her body gave him and kissed Ava senselessly, sucking her tongue so expertly that one would wonder if it was really his first time doing that.

He relaxed his grip on her and turned the kiss into a sensual one that would make any girl curl in her toes.... Well, except Ava!

As soon as he did this, Ava pushed him back and slapped him with all her might!

The distinct sound of the slap echoed in the room as she heaved in and out, looking at the man she had always thought was a boy.

"I’m not sorry for doing that, Ava and I will do it again and again in the future... only if you let me."

"I am not a child, Ava. I told you that I would make a better boyfriend, but you always doubt me. Action speaks better than words, right?"

"Before you bring up the age factor, I am nineteen and of the legal age, last I checked. You are only twenty-three, the same as my sister. That means we only have a four-year gap. Ian is more than a decade older than Shelby and they are married."

"That is different, Rocky."

"How is it different? I don’t see how that situation cannot apply to this one here."

He looked directly into Ava’s eyes,

"Ava Burnet, I love you and have for as long as I can remember. I am not going to force you into anything, but I need you to stop treating me like a child because I am not. As I told you years before, I will be your future husband, and nothing will ever change that!"

Ava returned Rocky’s gaze. She had been furious with the kiss and still did not know how to react. She had to admit it, though; that was one hell of a kiss.

"Well, good luck with that then, ’My future husband,’" she said sarcastically.

"This is the present, and I have a boyfriend who, if I might remind you, you just met here. So please, Rocky, stop playing around!"

Rocky did not back down but smirked,

".... Says the woman who kissed me back!"

Ava felt her cheeks warm up at that, but before she could retort, Rocky added, "As for your present-day boyfriend, I think you could have done a lot better than that!"

"Watch your tone, Rocky."

"I sent you an audio file; try to listen to it when you can. It will be for your own good, and also, it contains interesting details about your super boyfriend, Josh."

"Just know that, as I have deemed him unworthy of you, I am now going to pursue you with everything I have in me!"

He winked at Ava and was gone.
