Chapter 117: Chapter 117
"My daughter understands this principle, but I still have many necessary things to do. I’m not referring to work-related matters, but to other things. Before I deal with those matters, I don’t want to have children, because I won’t be at ease."
Hearing this, Liora Hughes said no more.
Thinking of Emma Bennett, Lucy Eaton looked at Jackson Baker, "Dad, I’ve heard that the Second Highness has been blind for a long time. How did he become blind?"
"When he was six years old, he consumed cold drinks delivered by a servant and suddenly became blind."
"Was he harmed by someone?"
"Yes, to this day the perpetrator has not been found." Follow current novels on NoveI★Fire.net
Lucy Eaton asked again, "Has the Second Highness completely lost the chance for future elections because of his blindness?"
"The situation within the Presidential Mansion is intricate and complex. Although the Second Highness is blind and not involved in national affairs, it doesn’t mean he has no chance to participate in future elections. I actually believe that the Second Highness is not as simple as he appears. There are some things I can’t tell you too much about. Just know this: no one in the Presidential Mansion has simple thoughts."
Lucy Eaton understood his meaning and automatically ended the topic.
Jackson Baker didn’t stay at home for long before he went out. She stayed with Liora Hughes at home, talking about everything like good friends.
That night, Lucy Eaton did not leave, staying at home for the night.
Living in the room Liora Hughes had meticulously prepared for her, she felt like the missing piece in her heart was perfectly filled.
Not only did she have a husband, but she also had her biological parents.
By five o’clock the next morning, she returned to Ningham.
When she arrived at Blossom Haven, Jacob Green was wearing a headband and running in the gym. She came to the doorway, watching his workout figure, and couldn’t help but give a knowing smile.
Standing there waiting for a dozen minutes, Jacob Green finally noticed her presence.
Coming down from the treadmill, Jacob Green walked over wiping sweat, lifting her vertically into his arms.
"Have you had breakfast?"
"No, I’ll eat with you."
"That suits me just fine."
Sitting at the dining table, Jacob Green said, "I’ll tell you some good news."
"Stellan Quinn has entered the Presidential Mansion as you expected."
Jacob Green replied, "Under the alias Laura. She didn’t alter her previous identity but used a completely new one. Indeed, anyone trying to check this name can’t find anything, but like I’ve said, even with cosmetic surgery, it’s impossible to completely erase traces of the past on one’s face. Her successful entry was closely linked to Mason Baker’s help."
"Mason Baker is no longer my parents’ child, yet he can still exert such influence?"
"Though he’s not your parents’ child, isn’t he still part of the Baker Clan? Your grandparents care for him so much that it doesn’t hinder the people he knows from staying close to him." Jacob Green’s tone was slightly heavy. "These half-siblings now regard you as a thorn in their eye, and all their efforts aim to get rid of you."
"With my husband around, how easy is it for them to get rid of me?" Lucy Eaton showed no fear. "Stellan Quinn wants to leverage powerful connections. What I want to know is, can a fool played like a monkey by Grace Hughes achieve what he wants in a crisis-ridden Presidential Mansion?"
"That depends on her luck," Jacob Green said slowly, "People grow in harsh environments. Hazel Soft told me this morning that Grace Hughes’ parents are out of jail."
"Grace Hughes’ parents were sentenced to fifteen years for drug trafficking and they were just released at this time, so, husband, I need you to have people watch them as well because they will return to their old trade. Once they make a move, report this quietly to the public security organs to eliminate harm to the people, a duty for everyone."
Jacob Green’s eyes darkened, "Why not take this opportunity to get Grace Hughes in as well, saving my wife from always worrying about her and being an eyesore."
Lucy Eaton gave him a gentle smile, "Do you have a plan?"
"I’ll handle everything."
After breakfast, Lucy Eaton drove her pink beloved car to work.
She dressed rather casually, with a white T-shirt and white shorts, flat shoes on her feet.
Just as her car was about to enter the hospital gate, an ambulance got in first.
She followed the ambulance inside.
The ambulance stopped at the emergency entrance, while her car parked a few meters away in a parking spot.
When she got out of the car, she inadvertently glanced and found that the person being carried from the ambulance was Chloe White.
Her lower body was covered in blood, and judging by the state, she seemed unconscious.
She didn’t meddle and went straight to work.
More than nine o’clock, as she was about to enter the operating room, she heard the nurses talking.
"Our hospital really is unlucky."
"Isn’t that right? She went to a small clinic for an abortion on her own and when things went wrong she called our hospital. She had just been brought over and in a few minutes passed away. How dare her family demand compensation from our hospital?"
Lucy Eaton asked, "Who are you talking about?"
"Dr. Eaton, you may not know yet. Over an hour ago the emergency room brought in a female patient who had an abortion at a small clinic; her name was Chloe White. She had just arrived at our hospital before we could even begin treatment and died. Her mother is causing a huge commotion, asking our hospital for five million in compensation, just absurd demands!"
Lucy Eaton raised her eyebrows, Chloe White dead?!
Because of an abortion?
Before entering the operation room, she called James Foster to confirm once more, "You really didn’t touch Chloe White?"
"I really didn’t, would I lie to you? Why are you suddenly asking this?"
"She died, excessive bleeding from an abortion at a small clinic, and had passed away before we could begin treatment at our hospital. Her mother is demanding five million from us."
The phone line was silent for a few seconds, then James Foster muttered an ’oh’.
"As long as the child isn’t yours, I’m going into surgery now. Bye."
James Foster hung up and told Mia Townsend beside him, "Chloe White died."
"Who? Chloe White?" Mia Townsend hastily asked, "How did she die?"
"Lucy says she died from an abortion at a small clinic, after the incident being rushed to the First People’s Hospital, yet died before receiving any treatment, and her mother is demanding five million from the hospital."
Mia Townsend sighed, "Her mother must be blinded by money, right? The incident happened at the clinic, the clinic should be held responsible, why blame the hospital?"
"Isn’t it because she died at the hospital?"
"The hospital may have to pay some compensation, but whose child was she carrying? Yours?"
"Not at all." James Foster’s face turned red, "I didn’t touch her, how could it be mine."
"Huh?" Mia Townsend looked at him with interest, "This doesn’t add up."
"No more talking, I’m going to work."
