Chapter 109: Chapter 109
"I understand now. The Presidential Mansion seems to be the most dazzling place in our country, yet it lacks even the most basic freedom. Living so cautiously, Second Highness, do you feel uncomfortable?"
For the first time, someone dared to ask him whether life in the Presidential Mansion was uncomfortable.
Emma Bennett didn’t know how to answer, "I’m used to it."
After waiting for about an hour, Nick returned with confirmed news, "Your Highness, it’s true that the Palmer Family’s second young master was attacked yesterday, but he survived. He’s currently being treated at the First People’s Hospital. In the evening, another group from the Palmer Family barged in and kidnapped someone."
Lucy Eaton’s heart, which had been suspended, was relieved. She guessed that neither the Palmer Family nor Jacob Green would publicize that the kidnapped person was her, and she was right.
The Palmer Family wouldn’t publicize it because they wanted to avoid public criticism, while Jacob Green wouldn’t for the sake of the bigger picture. What would the consequences be if word spread that the Prime Minister’s daughter had been kidnapped?
This would elevate the situation to a higher level. The Presidential Mansion would not sit idly by, and if the online community paid too much attention to the matter, the culprits, if angered, might easily kill to silence.
So, Lucy Eaton speculated that even her parents might not know yet.
Jacob Green must be worried sick, searching everywhere in a panic for her. Lucy Eaton was determined to find a way to get a message to him no matter what.
Recalling the conversation about Stellan Quinn yesterday, Lucy Eaton felt there must be someone from Jacob Green’s side in the Presidential Mansion.
But she had no idea who or where that person might be.
"Your Highness, now that she can’t leave the Presidential Mansion, how should we handle her?"
"She can’t do much now due to her injuries. Let her stay in this room and not go anywhere to avoid being seen. After three days, she can stay here as a maid. Once her records are set up and her identity is established, then let her leave."
Nick couldn’t help but say, "This rescue has brought quite the headache."
"Brother Nick, although I’m injured now, I won’t just loaf around. I’ll do what I can, like giving our Highness a head massage. I’m good at that."
Nick’s face turned completely red when she called him ’Brother,’ "Don’t call me that, I have a girlfriend."
"I have no interest in you. So, what if you have a wife? If you don’t like it, I won’t call you that in the future." Follow current novᴇls on n0velfire.net
As if she wanted to call him that?
Just hoping for a little more consideration here.
And so, Lucy Eaton stayed, and most honorably shared a room with the President’s second son.
At night, she would accompany the carpet.
Even so, Nick felt he had given her a great honor.
The accommodations might not be the best, but the food was excellent.
This was something Lucy Eaton was satisfied with.
After eating and drinking her fill, Nick brought her a book. Not knowing why, she thought he wanted her to pass the time and said, "Nick, you’re so thoughtful, knowing I’m idle and bored and bringing me a book."
Nick glanced at her coolly, "In your dreams. Read it to our Highness aloud. If your hands can’t work, surely your mouth can, right?"
Lucy Eaton tilted her head and smiled at him, "You want me to serve His Highness with my mouth?"
Nick’s face was instantly flushed, "You... What kind of twisted mind do you have?"
By the bed, Emma Bennett’s mouth twitched. She coughed dryly, "Both of you, be quiet."
Nick snorted and instructed Lucy Eaton, "Read it properly."
Then he left the room.
Lucy Eaton glanced at the book’s title; it was a motivational book by a famous foreign figure.
Opening it, it was all in a foreign language.
That Nick wasn’t making things easy for her; he was making things difficult.
But Nick definitely didn’t know that the foreign language was no challenge for her.
So, she opened to the first page and read fluently in a foreign language to Emma Bennett.
Emma Bennett was astonished. First, he hadn’t expected the book Nick gave her to be in a foreign language. Second, he hadn’t expected her to read it so fluently.
A maid was now proficient in a foreign language? So advanced.
Lucy Eaton had no idea what he was thinking and continued reading to herself.
She read for almost an hour, her mouth dry. She poured herself a glass of water and then continued.
The whole morning was spent just reading to him.
She wasn’t really interested in these motivational books.
And didn’t particularly want to read them.
So, after finishing this book, she tried to negotiate with Emma Bennett, "Your Highness, do you like listening to novels?"
"Next time, I’ll read you a novel then? We can even discuss the plot."
"Alright, give me a head massage."
Ignoring her serious injury, he treated her like a servant.
If it were her husband, he’d never allow it.
He’d probably wish for her to lie in bed for a week, not letting her move.
Thinking of Jacob Green, a smile appeared on Lucy Eaton’s face as she slowly stood up from the carpet.
Emma Bennett was lying on the bed. Standing made her uncomfortable, and sitting didn’t let her apply strength, so she knelt there; it made her stomach hurt less.
"Your Highness, do you know what position I’m in while serving you right now?"
Emma Bennett’s handsome face flushed, "Nick has no sense when he talks, but why must you be like that too?"
Lucy Eaton replied earnestly, "Where is your Highness’s mind? By the way, Your Highness, you’re young and in your prime. Do you have a girlfriend?"
"I’m just asking, with no other intentions..."
He closed his eyes, not replying.
Lucy Eaton hoped he would fall asleep, so she could secretly use his phone to message Jacob Green that she was safe.
But Emma Bennett didn’t let her get her way.
Though his eyes were closed, he wasn’t asleep.
Closing his eyes was just a pretense. His world was already pitch black, and since he didn’t share government work with his brother, his habit of going to bed early and rising early meant he wasn’t tired during the day.
Reading in the morning and a head massage in the afternoon left Lucy Eaton quite exhausted given her injury.
After dinner, she lay down on the carpet to sleep.
She thought to go to sleep first and wake up to sneak the phone.
When she awoke again, it was indeed 3 a.m.
The room was pitch black, and with the curtains drawn, not a trace of light entered.
She propped herself up and slowly felt her way to the bedside, reaching her hand out to the table to see if there was a phone.
On the table, there was only a water cup and an alarm clock, nothing else.
Could the phone be at the head of the bed?
Of course, as a blind man, he would keep it close by.
So, Lucy Eaton gently searched around his bedside.
Nothing on the outside, so inside it was.
She bent over, her left hand on the bed, and her right hand reaching in.
But she had underestimated her lack of strength.
She couldn’t support herself and ended up falling heavily on him, her face buried against his neck.
A muffled groan was heard, followed by Emma Bennett’s voice, "Lucy, are you trying to die?"
"Your Highness..." she said, tears almost falling, "I was sleepwalking."
He had awakened when she was feeling around the table, watching what she was up to, not expecting her to be reaching for the phone.
