Chapter 471: Chapter 471
When Shen Bin returned home, it was already late. He talked to his mother about the Liu Family’s reaction to Ye Qian’s miscarriage, then had a bite to eat and went upstairs to rest. The new room upstairs still looked the same as when they got married, without any changes. Moreover, there was not a speck of dust in the room, indicating it was cleaned every day.
Shen Bin lay quietly in bed, as if he was back on the day of their wedding. Yet, what happened that day wasn’t good at all; he had upset his wife. Thinking about it, from the day they got married until now, he seemed to have accomplished nothing, as if he hadn’t married at all, and he hadn’t done anything for the family. To his wife, he had brought her nothing but trouble.
Thinking about this, Shen Bin decided to call his wife and have a proper talk the next day.
So the next morning, Shen Bin didn’t rush to the hospital but stayed at home, watching the time on his wristwatch. When it reached 8 o’clock, he picked up the phone and dialed directly.
On the other end, Ye Ling answered the call immediately, not expecting it to be Shen Bin. Yet, recalling she had called home yesterday, it wasn’t surprising that he would call at this time.
"How is Dad’s health? When I called yesterday, Mom didn’t tell me anything. I’m afraid she’s hiding something to prevent me from worrying," Ye Ling said, sounding as though she had no idea about what was happening there.
Upon hearing his wife’s voice, Shen Bin couldn’t help but smile, "How are you? Is the baby in your belly behaving? Is Dad over there doing well? There’s nothing much happening here; my dad’s health has improved. I’m planning to return in a few days."
"Finally, you’re going back; stay a few more days and spend time with Mom and Dad," Ye Ling said, sharing some news she had heard recently. "There’s nothing much happening in the unit now, although I heard there’s news that the promotion will be expedited by a few months. I think, since you’re new here, there won’t be a spot for you, so you don’t need to rush back."
"I have a grasp of these matters," Shen Bin thought for a moment and then mentioned the promise he made to his mother-in-law of giving her a monthly allowance of 120 yuan, "I don’t need to say much about this; from now on, I’ll cover the 120 yuan from my salary."
Ye Ling chuckled twice but showed no trace of a smile on her face, "Your salary gets sent to me every month, so where are you going to get 120 yuan to give him? Since you agreed to this, you figure out where it’s coming from yourself." This text is hosted at novel{f}ire.net
Shen Bin had anticipated his wife’s resistance, "I’ll just have to figure out a way myself."
"Don’t think you can drag this issue out with me. What method do you have? You’d only go borrowing money from someone else, wouldn’t you? Borrowed money still has to be repaid, doesn’t it? You borrow 120 a year; after two years, it’s 240. Keep going, and the debt will pile up higher, without any source to repay it. Don’t expect me to help repay this debt," Ye Ling, unyieldingly revealing her unyielding stance during a family matter, showed no leniency towards him, "Don’t even think of taking money from your parents. Let me talk to your mom about how the family absolutely can’t give you this money. Since you agreed to this, you solve it yourself."
Ye Ling was angry that Shen Bin made this decision without discussing it with her while also furious at her mother for having ignored her for years, only to seek her out when money was needed. Her mother shamelessly approached Shen Bin for money behind her back; had she faced Ye Ling directly, she would have received a finger-pointing scold.
Daring to ask for pension money in her mother’s name, how big must her face be!
Adding to that, based on what Zhao Guodong told her yesterday, one thing piled upon another, yet Shen Bin hadn’t been forthcoming to her. Previously, Ye Ling tried to probe him, but he remained tight-lipped. How could Ye Ling not be angry?
She immediately shared her decision from last night with Shen Bing, "I’ve thought it over, and considering I’m close to 5 months pregnant now, it makes as much sense to have the baby back home since I’d have to take leave anyway. Plus, my parents could see the baby too, so I plan to return to the courtyard after you come back."
Shen Bin was aware of how the Liu Family had secretly maneuvered Ye Ling’s transfer to Da XingAn Ridge. At the time, he had somewhat of a selfish motive, as he was being transferred there too. This way, they could be together and meet occasionally, reducing their time apart.
Little did he expect his wife to suddenly make such a decision, catching Shen Bin completely off guard.
"Why the sudden decision?" If he were in a more clear-headed state, Shen Bin would realize his wife was upset with him, but seeing her angry made him anxious, leaving him no time to think, resulting in him failing to recognize she was vexed with him.
"Since you can make all the decisions by yourself and leave me out, I’ll handle my affairs and make my decisions without needing your input either," Ye Ling snapped back tersely.
Well, Shen Bin then realized she was indeed angry!
"Don’t be unreasonable. Let’s discuss this when I come back." Based on Shen Bin’s temperament, he was already showing a willingness to compromise, speaking softly and pleadingly.
Ye Ling simply refused to give him face, "Alright, let’s leave it at that for today. You should get going to take care of Dad."
With that, without waiting for him to say more, she immediately hung up the phone.
With the phone in hand, Shen Bin furrowed his brows, wondering if his wife was taunting him with her last words. Could it be because he had a guilty conscience that led him to overthink?
Ye Ling sat there brooding when the phone rang again. She guessed it was Zhao Guodong, so she calmed her mood before answering.
Sure enough, the excited voice of Zhao Guodong came through the phone, "Ye Ling, let me tell you what I saw at the hospital yesterday. I saw Ye Qian crying, and Liu Zhiyuan was sitting by the bed, not comforting her."
"Then, since I felt it was inappropriate to go in, I peered from outside stealthily. After a long while, with one crying and the other acting, I didn’t go in but went straight home instead," Zhao Guodong recounted the events excitedly.
He had been exploited by Ye Qian and now bore the infamous reputation of causing her miscarriage, as everyone believed he was responsible unless Ye Qian confessed.
But Ye Ling had already analyzed that Ye Qian would never admit it, so Zhao Guodong was doomed to carry this stigma for life.
With that, how could he not hate Ye Qian? That’s why seeing her in distress yesterday, Zhao Guodong couldn’t help but gloat, feeling somewhat relieved inside.
