Chapter 453: Chapter 453

After Liu Zhiyuan and Ye Qian arrived in town, Liu Zhiyuan maintained a very humble attitude throughout. Ye Qian observed his every move, and her mood improved significantly, especially since she had her own plans coming to town today.

Ye Qian’s face showed signs of a smile, and Liu Zhiyuan suggested having dinner outside. He also made a phone call home, and they found a nearby restaurant and ordered a couple of dishes. When the dishes arrived, Ye Qian did not start eating but rather picked a piece and placed it in Liu Zhiyuan’s bowl. "Brother Zhiyuan, I want to talk to you about my job. As you know, I work in a clerical position at the company, dealing mostly with paperwork and getting signatures. Now that I’m pregnant, I need to take leave and stay at home. This doesn’t feel right to me; I can’t receive special treatment just because of family connections. Even if I’m back in the office, people will find something to comment about." "I know Dad and Mom are concerned about me, but it’s exactly because of this that I shouldn’t let them worry about my affairs. Besides, being alone at home, apart from cooking and tidying up, there’s nothing else to do. Staying idle makes me feel like I could fall ill; I’ve started feeling unwell these past two days." Ye Qian looked at Liu Zhiyuan expectantly, "Brother Zhiyuan, I know saying this might put you in a tough spot, but I still want to share what’s in my heart with you. Do you think my thoughts are justified?"

Liu Zhiyuan was initially pleased to see Ye Qian’s improved mood. However, as soon as Ye Qian began speaking, for some reason, his heart sank. Perhaps he was too sensitive; he felt that Ye Qian’s willingness to go out with him, perhaps even forgiving him and showing a friendly face, was because she needed something from him. Or maybe it was too coincidental, prompting him to overthink. Liu Zhiyuan tried not to let himself think that way, as he put down his chopsticks and earnestly looked at her.

"Ye Qian, if you want to return to work at the company, I can talk to Mom and Dad about it, but I’m not sure what the outcome will be." Liu Zhiyuan has his own thoughts, "Actually, Mom and Dad are doing this for your own good. After all, from pregnancy to childbirth is just over a year, not too long. And considering your allergies to certain things, being on the base poses potential issues. If you really feel bored being at home alone, I’ll talk to Mom and Dad to let you go back to work."

The decision for Ye Qian not to work was made by his parents, and Liu Zhiyuan didn’t say much about it after knowing. He felt that the family wasn’t lacking her salary, and Ye Qian’s health was indeed not very good, so staying at home to recover was better. Initially, Ye Qian threw tantrums, which Liu Zhiyuan noticed but didn’t comment on. He understood how it felt to suddenly quit working. He just didn’t anticipate Ye Qian to be so persistent.

Liu Zhiyuan truly didn’t understand, is work such a big temptation for Ye Qian?

But since she had already spoken thus far and talked to him alone, Liu Zhiyuan couldn’t remain silent any longer.

Ye Qian wasn’t oblivious; she could see the Liu Zhiyuan in front of her was not happy, but she had already made her decision and didn’t back down.

"Brother Zhiyuan, I know that doing this may seem self-willed, might even upset Mom and Dad, but I hope you understand me. I’m still so young, and this child came unexpectedly and too early. I really didn’t anticipate or foresee this. Actually, thinking about having a child is quite normal, but I feel panicked inside and don’t know why. So I think being on the base might calm me down."

Ye Qian, already looking pitiful and tugging at heartstrings, now spoke in such a low voice that Liu Zhiyuan felt a twinge of conscience, thinking he was too harsh on Ye Qian.

"Alright, don’t think about it too much. I’ll discuss it with Mom and Dad when we’re back. Let’s eat now!" Liu Zhiyuan added some veggies to Ye Qian’s bowl.

However, after that point, the two of them didn’t exchange another word.

Although Liu Zhiyuan felt Ye Qian was somewhat pitiable, the unshakable feeling inside left him disappointed, and the two didn’t speak a word until finishing the meal and arriving home.

Once home, Wu Mengyi was sitting in the living room waiting for them.

"You’re back? Must be tired, right? Feeling unwell anywhere?" Wu Mengyi asked her daughter-in-law with concern, adding, "In the future, don’t eat out; the food outside isn’t clean. If cooking at home feels tiring, your father can hire a maid sometime since my cooking isn’t great either."

"Mom, it’s not tiring; I’ll cook in the future. Having an outsider in the house feels awkward." Ye Qian smiled sweetly, "I’ll go change clothes now."

"Go on, go on!" Wu Mengyi was somewhat flattered at the smile from her daughter-in-law, urging her son, "You should go and rest too! It’s rare for you to be home. Spend more time with your wife."

Liu Zhiyuan didn’t move but sat in the living room, "Mom, I have something to discuss with you."

Wu Mengyi glanced at her son, gestured toward the study room, and walked there herself first. Liu Zhiyuan followed, mother and son entering the study one after the other, where Wu Mengyi sat by the desk and gestured to the empty chair opposite. Only after her son settled did she ask.

"Is what you want to discuss related to Ye Qian?"

Liu Zhiyuan nodded silently.

Wu Mengyi’s expression didn’t reveal much, but her smile noticeably faded, "Just speak your mind."

"Mom, I see Ye Qian stays home all the time. It might be better to let her work at the office. This way, she’ll be busy and won’t overthink. Being cooped up as a pregnant woman and overthinking at home isn’t good, and it affects the mood and the baby too."

Wu Mengyi understood her son well. When she and her husband made that decision, Liu Zhiyuan didn’t say anything. Yet today, after spending time in town with Ye Qian, he came back and said this, evidently it wasn’t his idea but Ye Qian’s.

After Liu Zhiyuan spoke, seeing his mother remain silent, he wasn’t anxious. He simply sat there quietly waiting for her to speak. It was a long time before Wu Mengyi responded in a somewhat gloomy and annoyed tone, "Fine, then go back to work. But if anything happens, don’t blame me for saying harsh things."

Upon hearing this, Liu Zhiyuan knew his mother was angry, but he didn’t know what more to say. ɴᴇᴡ ɴᴏᴠᴇʟ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀʀᴇ ᴘᴜʙʟɪsʜᴇᴅ ᴏɴ noveⅼfire.net
