Chapter 335: Chapter 335
Shen Bin just patted Ye Ling’s head, then loosened the hand supporting Ye Ling’s waist, taking big strides toward the ward. Ye Ling, having calmed down from her fright, immediately followed him. The once spacious ward now appeared crowded. The five visitors stood inside with grave expressions, Bai Xue stood aside with red eyes, obviously shocked. Even though Ye Qian was softly comforting her mother, her own face was full of worry. When she saw Ye Ling enter, she quickly avoided her gaze out of panic. Ye Ling ignored her and followed Shen Bin to the bedside, listening as Shen Bin asked the doctor about the situation. Her face gradually darkened, her gaze at Ye Qian was as if she wanted to devour her.
"Originally fine, just now drank water without expelling gas, causing symptoms most likely of post-surgery dumping syndrome: dizziness, palpitations, tachycardia, extreme weakness, profuse sweating, trembling, pallor or flushing. Severe cases may have blood pressure drop, fainting; Gastrointestinal symptoms: upper abdominal warm sensation, fullness or discomfort, nausea, vomiting, belching, bowel sounds, diarrhea, sometimes urge to defecate. Usually lasts about an hour and can resolve on its own, post-meal lying down can prevent attacks. Severe patients may fear eating, leading to weight loss and malnutrition. For now, can only start with injections and slowly recover."
The doctor disapprovingly said, "Family members need to meticulously remember the patient care taboos. It’s only the second day after surgery; drinking water without expelling gas, what are the family members thinking?"
With a loud voice, the doctor made Bai Xue and Ye Qian standing in the periphery pale even further. Ye Ling, paying no mind to these, squeezed forward, "Doctor, how should my father be cared for now?"
"If symptoms appear after eating, lie flat. Try to eat nutritious, easily digestible solid foods, eat small frequent meals, and avoid too sweet, salty, rich foods, and dairy. Drink water and fluid between meals, not during. Early post-surgery meal symptoms are mild for most patients, can subside or become controllable after a period of gastrointestinal adaptation and dietary adjustment." The doctor looked at Ye Ling, who seemed not old, while the wife just stood dumbly aside. Facing Ye Ling, his expression eased a bit, "Ultimately how well he recovers depends on your family’s cooperation with the patient. Today’s situation is critical, don’t give him food these two days, no water either. He’s receiving nutritional injections; he won’t starve."
Ye Ling thanked him. After the doctor and nurse left, she hurried back to the bedside, watching her deeply asleep father, Ye Ling wiped away her tears while Shen Bin took the mop by the door, cleaning up what Ye He Ping had vomited. Since it was nothing substantial, it appeared mostly as water, yet the room held a foul smell. Fortunately, in summer, the windows could be opened, and the smell dissipated quickly.
"Shen Bin, we’ll leave this to you. We should go back and report to the leaders." Among the five visiting, a slightly chubby person came to talk to Shen Bin.
Ye Qian quickly approached to take the mop from Shen Bin. Shen Bin escorted a few people out, leaving the ward in silence. Bai Xue stood far by the window, unmoving, just staring at her bedridden husband, her mind filled with the image of her husband suffocating earlier.
Ye Qian kept her head down while mopping the floor, her mind in turmoil. She hadn’t thought her attempt to impress by feeding her father some water would lead to such a disaster, almost costing him his life. She knew she couldn’t hide this, especially with Ye Ling’s murderous gaze. Although she finished mopping, Ye Qian absent-mindedly continued, when a pair of eyes approached.
It was a pair of sneakers; Ye Qian recognized them as belonging to Ye Ling. Slowly raising her head, she saw Ye Ling standing before her, looking at her intently. Ye Qian knew she couldn’t avoid it, soon half of her face stung with pain, and a ’slap’ echoed in the ward.
Shen Bin returned just in time to see through the door’s glass the scene in the ward but didn’t enter, instead stopped outside, leaning against the wall.
Inside, Bai Xue saw her younger daughter being hit, couldn’t scream loudly, but was the first to rush over, shielding her younger daughter in her arms, glaring fiercely at the elder daughter, "What are you doing? I am still alive, yet you dare treat your sister ? When I’m truly dead one day, will you force your sister to death too?"
Ye Ling calmly looked at the two before her, "Do you not know why I hit her? My dad lies on the bed now, do you not know why he’s ? She returned pretending to be a filial daughter; I ignored her. She wants to pretend, let her pretend, but she almost killed my dad. For her own sake, she doesn’t care about my dad’s life. Why wouldn’t I hit her?"
Ye Ling’s voice was not loud, yet it carried a chill that made Bai Xue shudder, "She cares for your dad too. Besides, the doctor only said not to eat, didn’t say not to drink water; you didn’t explain it clearly, how can you blame Ye Qian?"
"It’s almost fatal, yet you’re making excuses for her. If I didn’t tell her, couldn’t she think? Don’t you always say she’s considerate and sensible? Doesn’t she have eyes to see? All day I’ve not fed my dad any water; anyone with eyes can see it’s not allowed. Otherwise, who among normal people wouldn’t drink water for a day?" Ye Ling knew she couldn’t argue with her biased-minded mother, fiercely looking at Ye Qian, "Get out now! If dad recovers, then this matter is past. But if dad’s health isn’t well, you know my temper, you’ll never have peace in this life."
"Ye Ling, he’s also Ye Qian’s father." Ye Qian didn’t say a word, but Bai Xue painfully spoke for her younger daughter. ᴜᴘᴅᴀᴛᴇ ꜰʀᴏᴍ novel_fіre.net
Ye Ling sneered, "Father? For her own good name, she doesn’t even care about her father’s life. How cold-blooded must she be? Does she even need family? She only needs to live well herself."
Ye Qian bit her lip hard, glaring at Ye Ling, like a beast thirsting for blood, eventually said nothing, turned away, and left the ward. Bai Xue knew her daughter was at fault, glared fiercely at Ye Ling before chasing out. Seeing Shen Bin standing outside, Bai Xue’s angry face stiffened briefly, then continued on.
Ye Ling sat powerless at the bedside, hearing footsteps entering, didn’t turn but guessed it was Shen Bin, yet lacked the heart to turn back and greet or thank him. (To be continued.
