Chapter 307: Chapter 307
Bai Xue stared at her husband with eyes that could seem to devour a person, yet Ye He Ping didn’t look at his wife at all. Seeing his younger daughter speak these words, he nodded in satisfaction. Although his wife’s actions were becoming more unstable, at least his younger daughter wasn’t being misled. As for her struggles with learning, Ye He Ping never demanded much—some things were innate, just like how the younger daughter excelled in the arts while the older daughter excelled in studies.
"Dad, I’ll go talk to mom," Ye Qian wiped the tears from her face, forced a smile, and only when her father nodded did she pull Soul Eater’s mother back to the West Room.
With the door closed, and only mother and daughter in the room, the warmth on Ye Qian’s face faded, turning cold as she sat on the bed with her mother, "Mom, if you truly care about me, stop causing such scenes in the future. Acting will only push dad further away. Do you want dad to look at us like strangers?"
"Qianqian..." Bai Xue began to cry, "It’s because I’m useless that you’ve suffered so much."
"Mom, you’re wrong. You’ve done nothing wrong. Loving me isn’t wrong—it’s my own lack of motivation that’s caused you so much worry." Ye Qian raised her hand to wipe her mother’s tears, revealing a serene smile, "Mom, I’m already someone with a job, albeit temporary, but still working, I’m a grown-up now. Don’t treat me like a child. I know how to take care of myself. There are only two children in the family, and when you target my sister in front of everyone, it’s not just dad who can’t stand it—even I feel sorry for my sister. Mom, didn’t you promise me you wouldn’t do this anymore? It’s rare for me to come home, and now look at the situation again."
"That damned girl. How is she your sister?" Bai Xue recalled with hatred, "I regret that I didn’t give this girl away at birth. She was born to bring misfortune to our family. Look at what she’s turned our family into."
She remembered the scene of harmony in the past, and now? Her husband never smiled at her anymore.
In her heart, Ye Qian didn’t like Ye Ling either, but she never showed it in front of others, "Mom, there you go again saying things in anger. The more you act this way, the more dad will feel for sister. Think carefully—isn’t that the case?"
Bai Xue was taken aback.
Ye Qian nodded, "If mom acts fairly, and sister still treats mom that way, do you think dad won’t speak to sister?"
Remembering that Ye Ling now didn’t even call her ’mom,’ Ye Qian came up with a plan. If only the mother treated Ye Ling well, and Ye Ling still didn’t call her ’mom,’ then pointing this out to their father, she didn’t believe dad would still side with Ye Ling.
Bai Xue fell silent and stopped crying, pondering over her daughter’s words. She knew her younger daughter was always clever, and there must be a reason for what she was saying now.
After this argument, the house finally quieted down. By lunchtime, there were more dishes on the table, and seeing the older daughter come out, the wife didn’t throw things or show a sour face, and her expression looked much better.
Ye Ling couldn’t believe that mother had truly learned her lesson. Glancing at Ye Qian, who was affectionately smiling at her, Ye Ling guessed that Ye Qian must have suggested something bad again. ʀᴇᴀᴅ ʟᴀᴛᴇsᴛ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀᴛ N0v3l.Fiɾe.net
The next day was New Year. Bai Xue cared deeply for her younger daughter and naturally wanted to take the opportunity in these few days to make more delicious food to nourish her. She got up early before dawn to prepare egg water for her younger daughter, and then went to make breakfast. Since today was New Year, breakfast was dealt with simply, saving the good dishes for lunch, which was the main meal.
In the kitchen, Bai Xue was cooking, while Ye He Ping was inside writing spring couplets. Ye Qian and Ye Ling were helping put them up. Unexpectedly, Liu Zhiyuan came over on New Year’s Day; he was happy when he saw Ye Qian.
Bai Xue took the fruit Liu Zhiyuan brought and welcomed him into the living room, "Your family didn’t celebrate New Year at the company this year, huh?"
"My mom said my sister and I are both in university, and we don’t get to spend much time together. If we went to the company, the family wouldn’t be able to stay together for long, so we’re celebrating New Year at home. I heard Uncle Ye is at home too, so I came to visit." In the past two years, Liu Zhiyuan had grown taller and more mature, handling things well with people.
Bai Xue had always regarded him as a future son-in-law, "Your mom is so thoughtful. It’s a coincidence that we’re not celebrating at the company this year. After lunch, I’ll take Ye Qian to visit your home. It’s been more than a year since I saw your sister. I wonder if she can take care of herself in university."
Her words were spoken with genuine concern, as if for her own daughter.
Ye He Ping, having seen his wife’s coldness towards the older daughter, felt an unexplainable annoyance seeing her this way. But in front of others, he said nothing harsh, merely stayed beside the older daughter peeling garlic. Since Liu Zhiyuan entered, Ye Ling only nodded in acknowledgment, as they had maintained a mutually respectful relationship in college, helping each other as needed and avoiding unnecessary conflicts.
Ye Qian, however, blushed when she saw Liu Zhiyuan. Having not seen him for nearly two years, how could she not be excited? She had arrived home when it was dark, and with it being New Year, most people would usually celebrate at the units. Thus, she stayed home. Seeing Liu Zhiyuan now, she regretted not seeking more information to visit the Liu family herself.
"Brother Zhiyuan, you seem to have grown taller again. Is it tough in university? I’ve never been to college. It must be amazing there, right?" Ye Qian looked at Liu Zhiyuan with hopeful eyes.
Liu Zhiyuan softly chuckled and nodded, "It’s like working at a company, we attend classes, and the rest is the same."
Ye Qian felt the explanation was too simple, but she couldn’t find fault, "Brother Zhiyuan, will you be assigned back here after graduation?"
"That’s certain, we have to follow our original locale." While talking to Ye Qian, Liu Zhiyuan’s eyes occasionally flicked towards Ye Ling, noticing her expression change, he became curious, "Ye Ling, you didn’t know about this?"
Ye Ling indeed didn’t know. She looked at her father with a baffled expression, "Dad, is it true? Can’t I choose where I’ll be assigned?"
Ye He Ping nodded, "What’s wrong? You don’t want to come back here?"
This was something Ye He Ping never considered important. Children from the compound knew this inherently. Seeing his daughter’s apparent ignorance, he recalled he hadn’t discussed such things with her. (To be continued.
