Chapter 281: Chapter 281
Zhao Guodong ignored her, showing contempt as if he didn’t even see Ma Yue. He only stared at Fu Lei, the person who humiliated Ye Ling. Zhao Guodong wished he could punch him, but he couldn’t do that. He needed to drag Fu Lei in front of Ye Ling so she could see his true colors, rather than be deceived by appearances.
Fu Lei’s smile was so sunny, yet the words from his mouth were cruel, "Feelings? You’re still too impulsive and immature. Feelings need to be based on maturity. If you’ve chosen the wrong person, it shows you’re still immature. So why talk about feelings? It’s irresponsible to yourself and others."
"Have you been responsible to Ye Ling? You’re playing with her feelings," Zhao Guodong shouted, catching the attention of passersby.
Dong Minghui, feeling embarrassed, tugged at Ma Yue, "Let’s find another place to talk. How about getting in the car? It’s almost time."
"We haven’t done anything wrong; we’re just the victors. What’s there to be embarrassed about? He’s the one who should feel embarrassed. Didn’t you see how loudly he’s shouting? And how angry he is?" Ma Yue said with satisfaction.
Compared to Fu Lei and Zhao Guodong, only Zhao Guodong was upset. Fu Lei’s calm demeanor fascinated Ma Yue. She was convinced that the man she chose must be the best.
Dong Minghui couldn’t persuade Ma Yue and could only watch anxiously as Zhao Guodong and Fu Lei confronted each other, hoping they wouldn’t start a fight. If someone got hurt, it would definitely draw the school’s attention. All this half-semester, no one understood Dong Minghui’s heart or knew how she managed. She feared Ye Ling finding out. Despite Ye Ling appearing calm, she wasn’t the type to suffer silently. She even sponsored several orphans to go to college, and this was used as a teaching example at school. Ye Ling wouldn’t let emotions ruin things; if forced, she’d endure. The school didn’t allow relationships, and to avoid expulsion, Ye Ling would endure the insult. However, one never knows, and if Ye Ling didn’t care, they all couldn’t escape.
In the face of Zhao Guodong’s yelling, Fu Lei continued to smile at him, "What did I do to Ye Ling? What promises did I make? Just saying I like her and treating her better means I’m responsible? Your thinking is really childish."
"Bastard." Zhao Guodong couldn’t hold back anymore and swung a punch at Fu Lei.
Fu Lei gently dodged and didn’t hit back. Evading Zhao Guodong’s punches, he spoke lightly, "Last time, I let you hit me to provoke you and Ye Ling. Do you really think you can beat me with those pitiful moves?"
However, as soon as he finished speaking, Zhao Guodong landed a punch on his face, feeling satisfied, "So, still letting me hit you now? Then let me hit you a few more times."
Fu Lei only learned some self-defense when he first entered school, whereas Zhao Guodong had been fighting since he was a kid. Beating Fu Lei was no big deal; in a few hits, Fu Lei’s face was bruised. Ma Yue and Dong Minghui didn’t dare to intervene, with a campus guard now approaching. ᴛʜɪs ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ ɪs ᴜᴘᴅᴀᴛᴇ ʙʏ novelFire.net
"This is all a misunderstanding. We’re friends," Fu Lei explained to the campus guard, rubbing his face.
He wasn’t siding with Zhao Guodong but getting taken away by campus security would alert the school, which Fu Lei wanted to avoid, so he explained, even after being hit.
Facing the campus guard’s questioning gaze, Zhao Guodong snorted, "He’s right, we’re friends, and classmates too."
He pulled Fu Lei, "Let’s head back to school, just in time to talk with Ye Ling."
"Zhao Guodong, we’re planning to go to Dalian’s beach. Stop making trouble here," Ma Yue glared at Zhao Guodong, "What’s the point in what you’re doing? Ye Ling won’t believe you. Seeing Fu Lei beaten up , she’ll only blame you."
She said the last part quietly.
The campus guard saw the group did know each other and warned them not to fight before leaving.
Zhao Guodong wouldn’t release his grip, dragging Fu Lei along, and Ma Yue couldn’t stop them. She could only chase after them, while Fu Lei was half-dragged along and couldn’t break free.
Only at this point did Fu Lei turn to Ma Yue with helplessness and say, "I told you not to separate us. Now you see what happened."
Ma Yue couldn’t handle Zhao Guodong; feeling blamed by Fu Lei, she retorted, "So you really have feelings for Ye Ling?"
"You doubt me again?" Fu Lei showed a hurt expression.
Ma Yue didn’t want to say more, but in the end, the four didn’t make it to Dalian. Thanks to Zhao Guodong’s interference, they returned to school, arriving after two in the afternoon. Ye Ling, just back at the dormitory after washing dishes, stretched her arms and legs, hearing the noise outside. Zhao Guodong entered, dragging Fu Lei in, followed by Ma Yue and Dong Minghui.
"Huh, didn’t you go home for summer vacation?" Ye Ling looked at Fu Lei, surprised.
When Fu Lei said he was going home, Ye Ling found it strange. He didn’t go home for the New Year, yet chose to return during the summer, though understood it might be to help out at home, so thought it made sense.
Seeing Zhao Guodong also stayed for summer break surprised Ye Ling. After all, Zhang Linong had told her they were going back, so though her eyes were on Fu Lei, the question was for Zhao Guodong.
Zhao Guodong flicked Fu Lei’s hand away, wiping his hands on his clothes, "Yes, since everyone’s here, I’ll have him explain what’s really going on."
Upon entering, Ye Ling was the first one to catch Zhao Guodong’s eye, making him feel better. Regardless of Ye Ling’s feelings for outsiders, she still valued those from the same neighborhood.
Ye Ling saw Zhao Guodong pointing at Fu Lei and shifted her gaze to him, "You’re hurt? Who hit you?"
Ma Yue had already come in and stood next to Fu Lei, as if declaring he belonged to her, catching Ye Ling’s eye. Ye Ling did not question her but looked at Fu Lei.
"I was going home but met Ma Yue and the others at the train station. We exchanged a few words, then Zhao Guodong came, misinterpreted something about Ma Yue and me, and attacked," Fu Lei smiled, "Don’t worry, he’s just concerned about you, that’s all."
Fu Lei twisted the truth, provoking Zhao Guodong to charge at him again, but Ye Ling stopped him. Meanwhile, Ma Yue and Dong Minghui pulled Fu Lei back a few steps to keep distance from Zhao Guodong, watching him warily. (To be continued.
