Chapter 251: Chapter 251
Ye He Ping suddenly returned home, and Bai Xue received the news during the day. She naturally knew why her husband came back, but seeing that his face didn’t look bad, she was quite surprised. On second thought, it made sense, since that girl, though her college choice was changed, still got into a good university.
When Bai Xue heard the news, she couldn’t understand how the heavens favored that dead girl so much. First in the city in high school exams, and skipping grades to enter university—the girl’s studies seemed like a game to her. In contrast, her younger daughter, though pretty and gentle, was overshadowed by the elder sister in academics.
Bai Xue wanted to go to the West Room to wake her daughter up to go to the East Room, but then she heard her husband’s voice from behind, "No need to call Ye Qian, I’ll sleep in the East Room. I have to wake up early to return to the company tomorrow."
Her body froze. As she turned around, she saw her husband already in the East Room, leaving her only a view of his back. The distance that had grown between them pained Bai Xue’s heart. Since the last time they talked about divorce, although they reconciled, her husband hadn’t returned to her room. Bai Xue knew what that meant, but how could she discuss it with her husband in front of their daughter?
In the West Room, Ye Qian was sleeping drowsily, "Mom, who’s here?"
"Go back to sleep. Your father is back. He has to go to the military early, so he didn’t want to disturb you and went to the East Room." Bai Xue forced a smile to explain.
Ye Qian was too sleepy to say much, murmured agreeably, and turned over to continue sleeping. Bai Xue, however, lay awake until dawn when she finally dozed off a bit, only to be stirred by noises from the East Room, prompting her to sit up and eventually get out of bed and leave the West Room.
She saw her husband putting on his shoes and quickly walked over, "Why not stay for breakfast before you leave? There’s no military bus this early."
"I’m walking back to the company." Ye He Ping replied without looking up as he tied his shoes.
Bai Xue bit her lip, "Ye Qian is joining the company in a few days. I can only escort her alone, you can’t go with the child. Take this chance to stay home with the child for a day."
She wanted to say that not only Ye Ling was his daughter; Ye Qian was too, but she knew saying such words would likely lead to a fight and they’d part unhappily.
While waiting and watching her husband stand up, Bai Xue looked at him expectantly, but then knew she’d be disappointed, "Ye Qian is new to the company. You should remind her of some things. I was thinking of buying clothes for both children, why don’t you call Lingzi back today and let’s have a family dinner and then go shopping?" ɴᴇᴡ ɴᴏᴠᴇʟ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀʀᴇ ᴘᴜʙʟɪsʜᴇᴅ ᴏɴ novel~fire~net
Though she didn’t favor the elder daughter, Bai Xue felt hurt seeing her husband’s coldness towards her. To keep her husband close, she had to suppress her dislike for the older daughter.
"In a few days, the Zhang, Wang, and Zhao families will return to handle their children’s university matters. We can gather then." Even though he didn’t want to make his daughter’s identity public, Ye He Ping kept focusing on her affairs.
Bai Xue forced a smile, "Alright."
Seeing her husband leave, the smile fell from her face. Even when he comes back next time, it’s all for that dead girl. How could Bai Xue feel good about it?
When Ye Qian woke up early, she saw her mother looking upset sitting alone in the living room, recalling how she vaguely heard her father returned last night. Seeing no sign of him now, she was sure he had left.
"Mom, are you unhappy with Dad again?" Ye Qian went over to sit down.
Bai Xue shook her head, "It seems in a few days the courtyard will celebrate the kids’ college acceptance; let’s see if I can take you back to the hometown to visit."
She didn’t mind herself, but couldn’t disregard her younger daughter’s feelings. However, with only a few days before joining the company, going there and back would take up all the time, and staying in her hometown would only be for a day or two.
Though Ye Qian hadn’t been back to her hometown before, she wasn’t eager to go, forced a smile, "Mom, I’m fine. Sister is so excellent, I’m happy for her. It’s me who’s silly, my mind isn’t as sharp as hers. But I’m glad she’s doing well so Mom can hold her head high in the courtyard."
After speaking, Ye Qian looked up and forced a smile. Bai Xue could see how strained it was. Listening to her daughter, who was clearly suppressed by that dead girl and yet bore no resentment, still considering others, her heart ached.
"You silly child, she may be doing well, but how do others see you? Aren’t you feeling sad inside? Don’t lie to Mom, I can tell you’re upset. But fortunately, you won’t have to endure much longer. Once you enter the company, even if she joins later, her job won’t be as comfortable as yours. Then she should envy us, laughter from afar is the most lasting." Bai Xue’s eyes flashed a hint of ruthlessness, looking at her daughter blooming beautifully, "My daughter is so pretty, with such a good nature, and can dance. Who knows how many people will fight to marry you in the future? Mom will find the best for you, so everyone will envy you."
Ye Qian blushed, "Mom, I’m still young, you keep saying these things."
"Not that young. Haven’t you seen people getting married at sixteen now? Once your job is stable, you have to think about personal matters." Bai Xue had long had someone in mind, but she had to consider it.
She fancied a son from the Liu Family but needed to see how the boy developed in the company. As far as she saw, only that boy was outstanding in the courtyard, and was kind to her daughter.
As for that dead girl, what good is getting into a good university? She dared to defy her mother, simply because she was unfilial, it would be difficult to find good in-laws later. Always thinking of suppressing her sister, simply with her bad intentions, she’d never find a good family in the future.
Ye Qian didn’t forget the recent matter despite her mother’s words. Celebrating college admissions in the courtyard was fine, but Ye Ling’s involvement made it difficult for her to accept. If Ye Ling climbed ranks step by step, Ye Qian could swallow her discomfort, admitting her mind wasn’t as sharp. But with Ye Ling skipping grades, wasn’t it arrogance? Her achievements didn’t count alone, she somehow brought along Zhao Guodong’s group of punk friends to succeed, openly shaming others.
Especially shaming those like herself who hadn’t even gotten into high school.
Faced with such embarrassment, Ye Qian couldn’t do anything but endure the strange looks from others. Fortunately, she was about to join the company, finally escaping the constant comparison with Ye Ling.
In the following days, Ye Qian always hung out with Song Mei, sometimes visiting the Liu Family, but never saw Liu Zhiyuan at home. Each girl had different thoughts, fearing selfishness would be exposed, and thus never visited the Liu Family again. Meanwhile, Ye He Ping and the other men took time off to return to the courtyard.
