Chapter 215: Chapter 215
At Ye’s house, Bai Xue was worried about her daughter and upset with her brother, while at the Liu Family, Wu Mengyi finished making dinner. Seeing her son had also returned home, she placed the last dish on the table, wiped her hands with the apron in front of her, and then walked into the living room.
"Why are you back so late today?" Liu Rui also heard the commotion and came out of her room, approaching her brother, "Big brother, did Ye Ling take the exam? How did it go?"
Liu Zhiyuan casually threw his belongings onto the sofa and sat down, "She didn’t match her answers this time, so she doesn’t know how it went either."
"Focus on your own exams, don’t worry about others. Although you were wrong about what happened during the day, your intentions were good. Trying to help but messing things up isn’t something others will necessarily hold against you." Rarely taking time off work for her son’s college entrance exams, Wu Mengyi called out to her two children, "Alright, alright, get up and eat."
"Mom, I noticed Ye Ling didn’t look too energetic. She went back to her dorm to sleep after handing in her paper. If she sleeps through the night and feels fine, that’s good. But what if she doesn’t? It might cause more delays. I was the one who caused this, so maybe you should go to Ye’s house and talk to Aunt Bai. Let Ye Ling come to our house. If anything happens at night, we can get her to the clinic quickly. Otherwise, if something happens at school at night, no one will be there to help." Liu Zhiyuan looked directly at his mother, "Mom, to be honest, I’ve never liked Ye Ling. She’s got a bad temper and never gives others any leeway. But although she doesn’t like me either, I think she sees me as a well-pampered kid who’s never experienced the hardships she has. Yet, after this incident, I actually think she’s pretty decent. Even with her bad temper, as long as no one deliberately targets her, she won’t be unreasonable."
"Bro, I also think Ye Ling is quite peculiar. Even though you mistakenly took her medicine and caused her to do poorly on two exams, I thought she would definitely blame you. Most people would seize this opportunity, especially if the college entrance exams go poorly. But she didn’t blame you at all." Liu Rui blinked, looking curious.
Liu Zhiyuan fell into deeper silence.
Wu Mengyi looked at her two children and suddenly smiled, "I get it now. If Ye Ling had actually blamed and scolded you, you wouldn’t feel so guilty, would you? It’s exactly because of her generosity that you feel bad. I know you’re a kind-hearted child who hasn’t intentionally hurt anyone. This time, during the college entrance exams, such a thing happened."
"Good child, don’t worry. Eat first, and after dinner, I’ll go to Ye’s house to talk to your Aunt Bai. Since this all started because of our family, we need to handle it properly." Despite not being fond of dealing with the Ye Family, Wu Mengyi was delighted by her son’s thoughtfulness and kindness.
"Mom, thank you." Liu Zhiyuan grinned, happy to be understood.
After dinner, Wu Mengyi went to Ye’s house, only to find that Bai Xue was not at home and only Ye Qian and Bai Hehua were there. She said a few words and then left, realizing that the matter couldn’t be resolved. After all, tomorrow was the last day of the college entrance exams. Wu Mengyi hadn’t expected not to fulfill the promise she made to her son, and now she could only return home with regret.
At school, after finishing the exam, Ye Ling went back to the dormitory, pulled down the bed curtain, and fell into a deep sleep. Just before falling asleep, she only remembered to tell Zhao Guodong and the others that she was tired. As for what they said, she didn’t pay special attention.
Except for Ye Ling who was asleep, only Dong Juan was in the dormitory. Dong Juan had washed her clothes and was walking back to the dorm. As she entered, she saw a boy sitting beside Ye Ling’s bed. Initially assuming it was Zhao Guodong and the others, she was startled to see it was actually Xiang Weilai from the first grade when he looked up, and she quickly drew back her gaze.
Xiang Weilai turned his head at the sound of footsteps. Seeing who it was, he said nothing and turned his gaze back to the sleeping Ye Ling, his eyebrows tightly furrowed. He had remained silent during the day, observing her whenever she woke up. Even during the afternoon exam, he noticed she wasn’t entirely well. After handing in her paper, she seemed even more listless. At the compound, seeing Zhao Guodong and the others entering, Xiang Weilai had said he wanted to buy something, but instead came back to school to check on her.
Evidently, Ye Ling was having a bad dream as she slept, her eyebrows remained furrowed. If the dormitory was empty, Xiang Weilai might have stayed a little longer, but with others around now, he had to be mindful. After casting another glance at the one on the bed, Xiang Weilai stood up, adjusted the bed curtain, and walked out briskly.
All the while, Dong Juan had been pretending to tidy up. She finally heaved a sigh of relief, sneaking a glance back to see Xiang Weilai leaving, before standing up to gaze blankly at the door, eventually collecting the washbasin and climbing up to her bunk.
When Ji Hong and the others returned, they were loud with chatter and laughter, waking Ye Ling even though she was sleeping soundly. Her immediate sensation upon waking was hunger.
Considering she hadn’t eaten anything since lunch, it’s no wonder she felt hungry.
Ye Ling sat up, pushed aside the bed curtain. Her movement caused a moment of silence in the dorm, but normalcy quickly resumed. Ye Ling had no mind for anything else and just wanted to find some food. Turning back to grab her clothes, she noticed a lunch box placed at the head of the bed. She reached out to touch it, finding it still warm. Ye Ling picked it up and opened it to find white buns and fried eggs inside, with a pair of chopsticks set beside them.
Ye Ling didn’t bother to think about who brought it, eating until she was half full. With her hunger somewhat relieved, she finally started thinking about it and looked up to ask Dong Juan on the upper bunk, "Dong Juan, who brought me food?"
"I saw Xiang Weilai visiting you when I came back from washing clothes. There was no one else, so could it be from him?" Dong Juan sat up, uncertain.
But she did notice that the moment she spoke, Ji Hong’s eyes widened in their direction. Follow current ɴᴏᴠᴇʟs on novel[f]ire.net
Hearing it was Xiang Weilai, Ye Ling was momentarily stunned, then simply let out an "oh," acknowledging it. She had anticipated Zhao Guodong and the others, but not Xiang Weilai, which quite surprised her.
Just as she finished the buns and fried eggs, Zhao Guodong and his group arrived. Seeing it was already dark outside, Ye Ling turned to them, "Why are you here so late?"
"We brought you some food, didn’t we?" Zhao Guodong handed over a lunch box, "My grandma specially cooked chicken porridge and boiled eggs for you. Oh, you’ve already eaten?"
Zhang Linong directly took Zhao Guodong’s lunch box and placed it in Ye Ling’s hands, "It’s good if you’ve eaten already, let Ye Ling get some rest early. There are still two subjects left tomorrow."
