Chapter 138: Chapter 138

After leaving the ramen shop, there were hardly any open stores on the street outside. Ye Ling kept hesitating about how to tell her father she wouldn’t go back home. After realizing her father genuinely cared for her, Ye Ling didn’t want to abruptly tell him about this, nor did she want to make him feel awkward. However, during the day and night at the slaughterhouse, Ye Ling thought a lot and became more resolute in her decision—she truly wouldn’t go back to that home again.

"I’ve arranged for the inn ahead to keep the door open, and tonight we’ll stay there for a while. I have something to discuss with you as well." Ye He Ping noticed his daughter’s hesitation. Though he had anticipated this, his heart still couldn’t help but feel distressed upon seeing it.

"Alright, I’m really tired." Ye Ling started talking about the interesting things at the slaughterhouse, "In the past, it was always my grandma who killed the chickens. Now I find it’s not so scary after all. When I have my own home, I’ll raise a few chickens. When Dad wants to eat meat, I can kill one, boil it in plain water, and eat it with seasoning—the chicken’s freshness will come out.

"Alright, let’s raise a few chickens then. At that time, we’ll buy a single-story house. You can raise whatever you want in the yard." Ye He Ping felt happy and grew more resolute in his thoughts, "Lingzi, if I divorce your mom, and Dad frequently stays at the army, you’ll have to take care of yourself. Hearing what you said now, Dad is reassured."

Ye Ling lifted her head to look at her father, then lowered it again, not asking more.

Ye He Ping continued, "I can’t live with your mom anymore; staying together is only torturing each other. Perhaps after divorcing, your mom will live more comfortably. Then she’ll live in the apartment assigned by the company, and I’ll take you to rent a single-story house outside first. When we have money, we’ll buy a house."

"Dad, you don’t have to divorce for me. I’m fine living outside alone. You’re educated, and getting a divorce isn’t a simple matter—it can affect you and your company. I can rent a small house outside, stay at school usually, and return to the rented house during holidays without affecting a bit." Ye Ling expressed her thoughts.

"No way, a girl living outside isn’t safe." Ye He Ping directly objected.

Ye Ling smiled, "Dad, you just said you’d feel assured when I am home alone after moving. Now, why does it become unsafe when I say I’ll move out? Even if you move out with me, aren’t you still at the company most of the time, leaving me alone at home?"

Ye He Ping was momentarily stunned, realizing it was indeed the same. However, what he wanted to discuss wasn’t this, but rather the divorce issue with his daughter, and now he was left at a loss for words.

Ye Ling laughed, "Dad, frankly, I have a bad temper and can’t say nice things. It’s no wonder people don’t like me. I have no mother-daughter ties with my mom. As long as we don’t gather together, the family will be fine, so the best solution is for me to move out. It won’t affect your promotion either."

"Lingzi, thank you for considering Dad’s situation. But the things between adults are beyond what you can understand. Your mom and I have many issues, piling one upon another; being together is no longer viable." Ye He Ping saw his daughter still considering him despite her flushed face, feeling warm inside, "We’ve arrived. Let’s rest first and talk about it tomorrow."

Ye Ling looked at the lit-up hostel in front of her and nodded exhaustedly. She was sharing the room with another woman, while her father stayed in the communal dormitory. Once she lay down, she fell into a deep sleep, waking up the next day to find it was already bright. She was alone in the room; the other bed had been tidied up, and clearly, the other person had left early.

In the courtyard, Bai Xue found her way back home at around ten. She had been tossing and turning all night and didn’t sleep. The next day she woke with puffy eyes and lacked energy. Ye Qian had already gotten up and couldn’t help worrying upon seeing her, mostly concerned about her father.

"Mom, are you feeling unwell?" Ye Qian handed over a glass of water, "Cousin has prepared the meal; let’s eat first."

The reveille had long sounded in the courtyard, so almost everyone had had breakfast by now. Yet Bai Xue had no appetite, "No need, you and Hehua go eat; I’m not hungry."

From initial composure to growing anxiety, Bai Xue had sensed since yesterday that this matter was different from usual. It was impossible to ignore it. Although she had spoken harshly that day, she couldn’t bear actually getting divorced. At her age, where else could she find someone with such good conditions?

Ye Qian saw her mother was getting bothered and sat by her side, unmoved. "Mom, let’s go find them. It’s been two days and two nights."

"No need, go eat." Bai Xue saw her daughter’s reluctance to eat, prompting her to get out of bed herself. But as soon as she stood, dizziness struck, and she fell back onto the bed. Ye Qian cried out in surprise.

Bai Xue pushed her daughter aside and leaned over the bed, vomiting everything she ate last night, frightening Ye Qian terribly. The commotion brought Bai Hehua from the living room, and seeing the chaos in the West Room, she got scared, quickly standing back with a broom to help.

When Bai Xue lay back on the bed, her face was as pale as could be, without a hint of blood. Ye Qian cried while handing water, "Mom, rinse your mouth; let’s go to the hospital."

"No need, it’s nothing." Bai Xue rinsed her mouth, but soon felt another wave of nausea, bending over the bedside to vomit again.

When Ye He Ping returned home, he found chaos inside, accompanied by a strong unpleasant smell. Ye He Ping frowned, and Bai Hehua emerged from the West Room as she spotted him, "Uncle."

Her voice wasn’t loud, and it carried a hint of fear.

Ye Qian inside heard it and ran out, crying, "Dad, take Mom to the hospital quickly; she’s sick, and keeps vomiting."

"Your mom’s just being difficult. She’ll be fine if she calms down." Ye He Ping hadn’t paid much attention.

Ye Qian grabbed him and pulled him towards the West Room, "Dad, look; Mom is truly ill."

Ye He Ping was dragged into the West Room by his daughter, seeing his wife lying on the bed, pale-faced as if gravely ill, and he hesitated, sternly speaking, "Help your mom; health center."

Ye Qian nodded repeatedly, "Dad, Mom can’t get up; help me with this."

Aware of his reluctance upon entering, Ye Qian nonetheless refused to miss this opportunity, hoping to leverage this chance to alleviate the relationship between her father and mother.
