Chapter 127: Chapter 127
Ever since her rebirth, Ye Ling has adhered to one principle, which is to not fight or compete and to live her own life well. As for Ye Qian, ever since her return, Ye Ling hasn’t contended with her. In Ye Ling’s eyes, her tragic previous life was tied to competing with Ye Qian. After all, when vying for motherly love or for Liu Zhiyuan, Ye Qian’s figure was always involved. It proved one thing: as long as she tangled with Ye Qian, Ye Ling would be the one discarded. So after her rebirth, Ye Ling has always reminded herself to steer clear of everything related to Ye Qian, not to meddle, envy, or admire.
Deep down, Ye Ling always believed that Ye Qian was a born princess, able to obtain everything she desired effortlessly, heaven’s favored child, and competing against her would always end in losing to fate.
At this moment, hearing Ye Qian claim that she was her nemesis, Ye Ling found it laughable. Wasn’t it mixed up whose nemesis was whose?
Ye Qian originally lashed out at Ye Ling upon waking up to find her hair cut and was stimulated. Yet she hadn’t expected the usually silent Ye Ling to say such words, which finally calmed Ye Qian slowly. "Ye Ling, you may have been admitted into high school, so what? I have the dignity to be proud before you; you can never surpass me. Go ahead and laugh at me now, but you won’t have long to wait, and I won’t give you many chances to do so ever again."
"Absurd." Ye Ling looked at her coldly. "When did I ever show any intent to surpass you? Or is it that you’re so scared I might overshadow you that you’ve always thought of others this way? Ye Qian, no matter what you think, let me state my position today. I disdain competing with you for anything. I won’t compete for fatherly or motherly love, nor anything at home. I just want to live my life and have never considered being entangled with you. Nor have I ever envied what you have."
Noticing Ye Qian’s face change colors, Ye Ling continued, "I know you won’t believe what I say, but I’ve laid it out here. The things you’re concerned I might snatch away from you, I don’t care for them even the slightest bit."
"Do you dare say you don’t care? Then why do you stir whenever mom and dad say you can’t go to school, even instigating grandma?" Ye Qian retorted. "Ye Ling, there’s no need for grandstanding here. You know what’s in your heart."
Ye Ling retorted sarcastically, "Why is it, when I strive for my right to education, it’s considered as competing with you? Do you think everyone in the Ye Family should revolve around you to be right? Mom and dad can revolve around you, but that doesn’t include me, Ye Ling. Also, don’t mention grandma in front of me. If it weren’t for your instigation, would grandma have died? Trust me, if you anger me, I’ll spread the news. Maybe not everyone will believe it, but some will, and your good-girl façade will not hold."
"Go ahead, I’m not stopping you." Ye Qian wasn’t frightened at all.
Ye Ling sneered, "Ye Qian, don’t you know? Do enough bad deeds, and you’ll eventually encounter spirits. Aren’t you afraid?"
"Let the ghosts come; I’d like to see too." Ye Qian’s face twisted with disdain at the corners of her mouth. "Do you think I’m a mere toddler? Use this trick on someone else. If you truly don’t care, then remember what you said today; don’t go back on your word. Don’t let me despise you at that time."
"Don’t worry, anything associated with you, Ye Qian, I can’t wait to stay away from. I remember it, and so do you. Don’t provoke me like today, attacking anyone in sight." Ye Ling didn’t mind being the bad guy. "Didn’t you say mom always doted on you? You should also know how the lice got on your head, right? Now, mom is bathing Bai Hehua, weren’t you always the good, considerate child in mom’s eyes? Then be magnanimous and tolerate your cousin a bit more."
Ye Qian’s face changed, and with a snort, she turned to walk back inside. "As if what you’re provoking really matters."
"I’m not provoking, your mom didn’t even mention Bai Hehua and shielded her. Tell me, does she care for you or her?" Ye Ling yelled at Ye Qian’s retreating figure, feeling in a great mood as she returned to her room.
After entering the West Room, Ye Qian was naturally upset. She remembered how sad she had cried in the afternoon, and mother hadn’t mentioned Bai Hehua at all. If it had been Ye Ling, how could mom possibly behave this way? There would have been an uproar already.
Although aware Ye Ling was trying to provoke her, the thought of it still made her angry. Thus, when Bai Xue came back with a freshly cleaned Bai Hehua, and upon seeing Bai Hehua still wearing her clothes, Ye Ling’s boiling anger rose again.
Since Bai Hehua arrived, she’d kept her head down and never dared to look up, so no one paid much attention to her appearance. But after cleaning up, her appearance now had hints of Lin Daiyu’s style. Though small eyes and a small mouth weren’t outstanding, these features on her face were quite pleasing to the eye, leaving Ye Qian stunned upon seeing her.
Even with her hair cut short like a boy’s and unevenly trimmed, Bai Hehua still exuded a delicate charm.
Bai Xue saw her daughter’s face, still gloomy after waking up, decided to send Bai Hehua back to the East Room first, then pulled her daughter into the West Room, "Are you mad at mom?"
"Mom, I want to be alone for a while." Ever since she was young, Ye Qian had always been the gentlest girl in the precinct.
But today, upon seeing Bai Hehua, Ye Qian felt shaken. Ye Ling was no longer a match, and Bai Hehua, surprisingly, evoked more sympathy than herself. Someone had outshone her, and that person was the very Bai Hehua she always looked down upon. The blow to Ye Qian was significant.
Bai Xue assumed her daughter was still upset over the hair incident, sitting down, "Qianqian, mom did it for your own good. Having lice needs to be dealt with properly, or it’ll become worse. I know you’re upset, but you’re at an age where your health is fragile. Cutting your hair short is better for you. Leave the nourishment for your body instead of for the hair. Once the lice are gone, let’s grow your hair out again."
"Mom, could you just leave me alone?" Ye Qian’s voice suddenly raised, startling Bai Xue.
"Child, why!" Bai Xue too felt upset, "Then, do spend some time alone."
She got up and left the West Room, spotting the tightly shut door of the East Room on the way to the kitchen. After a day orbiting around the two kids, she hadn’t had a moment’s rest, but some things were gratifying. She’d never imagined her niece could clean up so nicely. With some proper care, maybe she could find a good in-laws’ family in the city. (To be continued. If you work, you’re welcome to vote for recommendations or monthly votes on Qidian (qidian.com).
