Chapter 22: Chapter 22

Maksimillian

“What? You’re leaving?” Zenovia’s brows furrowed.

“Are you concerned that I may not come back? That I’d break our deal even if you now know my address in Russia?”

I slowed down and parked the car in front of the four-story hotel, which overlooked most parts of the city. The glittering golden and white lights that formed into random curvy or straight lines were breathtaking.

Zenovia’s eyes wavered when I looked at her again. The engine of the car was already off, but the overhead light was still on.

“I can’t… I won’t and I don’t have the means to come after you despite the notarized agreement. It’s the reality for me. I was just hoping that you’d be a man of your word and that you’d honour our agreement.”

“Which I still have to prove to you.” I nodded. “You’ll see then.”

Zenovia stared into my eyes, and I held her gaze. I had no plans of looking away. I wouldn’t. It was almost like I could see her heart in her eyes. At least, how she felt at the moment. It was reflected in those intense-looking grey eyes of hers that seemed to pull me to her. Her fear. Her doubt.

I cupped her face, still looking deep into her striking globes. “I just need to do my job, Zenovia, but I will be back, okay?”

“But you said you have an employee that you can send to Finland, so why do you have to go?”

The corners of my lips slowly lifted into a smile. “Are you being clingy right now?” I teased her.

She smacked my hands away. “Of course not! I’m just asking. You can go to hell for all I care! I can just find another one to give me a baby! Someone who’s not as complicated as you.”

My smile faded instantly. She was about to get out of the car, but I held her fast before she could even open the door.

“Don’t you dare find another man to give you that baby you want, Zenovia! We have a deal! I will give you what you fucking want! Okay?” With one hand, I held her jaw firmly but not to the point of hurting her. I just wanted to make her look at me and let her see how serious I was.

Without any other thought, I slammed my lips to hers and darted my tongue inside her mouth when she gave me access to it. I could feel my member go rigid almost immediately, upon feeling her kiss me back.

“Maks…” She sighed in surrender.

“Chert poberi (Damn it), Zenovia! Never doubt me again, all right?” I spoke through gritted teeth when I paused kissing her.

I saw tears spill from her peepers, and they raced down her cheeks.

“Why are you crying? Damn it!” I asked, even more concerned.

“I-I don’t know. I… I just want you, Maksimillian…” she whispered and cried.

God of heavens!

I quickly got out of the car to open the door for her. I grabbed the takeaways and a couple of paper bags I could get from the backseat with one hand, and the other held Zenovia by the wrist. We marched through the open entrance and the cozy lobby, going straight to the lifts. There was nobody at the reception area, but I didn’t care, though it was a wonder why. Anyway, inside the lift, Zenovia was quiet and didn’t look at me. Instead, she just stared at the number of the floor as we ascended to the last floor, where my suite was.

As soon as the lift dinged and opened, I almost dragged Zenovia down the hallway. Our steps echoed in the quiet well-lit place, passing through closed doors. Before ending up to the last room, I stopped and put the bags down to open the door of my suite.

She looked around us, taking all in the cream-coloured walls that were bare and the red-carpeted hallway. The recessed cool white lights on the ceiling lined up in interval with a distance of a meter or so. The doors had a uniform colour of mahogany.

Noticeably, two doors opposite to mine had “Do Not Disturb” red sign hanging on the doorknobs. When I glanced at my aunt’s room, it was bare. It only meant she was out to explore the city or some tourist spots near or outside Brașov. At least, she entertained herself even without me, and she hadn’t burdened my conscience for leaving her all alone.

As soon as I slid the keycard, the door opened. I pushed it open and switched the lights on. With it, the air conditioning turned on automatically. I slightly pushed Zenovia to go inside while I grabbed the shopping bags. I dropped them on the floor to take the red sign to hang it on the doorknob outside to let the staff and others know to not disturb me.

Or rather, us.

Zenovia stepped back to admire the spacious rectangular suite. The king size bed was in the middle with its headboard almost against the wall. The huge bed was covered by silver-grey bedsheet. The pillowcases were also of the same colour, leaning neatly against the headboard.

The walls were in pastel yellow. Above the headboard of the bed was a rectangular Japanese painting of some colourful landscape with trees and flowers. It was airy, breezy and sunny. I could feel the happy and positive vibe of the painting. It was also what I felt right now while being with Zenovia.

I watched her sweep her eyes to the left, where the bathroom was; next to it was the dressing room with the walk-in closet. On the opposite side, to our right, was a white living room set, with a couple of single couches that faced a long couch. These had white leather upholstery, with three grey-coloured throw pillows arranged neatly in a line. The center table was made of glass, and a small crystal flower vase stood in the middle with a white tulip in it. Meanwhile, a flat TV was placed on the wall that faced the long couch.

Zenovia turned away from me to face the glass wall, after checking out everything in the room. The white curtains were not drawn, so we both could see the stunning sight of the night cityscape of Brașov. The hills had occasional, scattered lights that came from some edifices or homes. The golden and white lights that formed random lines and curves were lively and could take anyone’s breath away.

“It’s so beautiful here!” she whispered happily.

I was already behind her and encaged her gently between my arms. Then, I bent my head to kiss her left cheek.

“We can leave the curtains open while I’ll please you. Or not. Your choice. No one can see us up here anyway,” I whispered into her ear before nibbling the lobe.

She slowly turned her head to hold my gaze. “Yes, we can leave them be.” Her lips parted, and she closed her eyes to wait for my lips to cover hers.
