Chapter 89: Chapter 89
We've gathered in the living room surrounding the sleeping captain.
The maids are serving us hot chocolate drinks and for themselves too. Everyone is sleepless. While Andrew is relentless with his servants' welfare, I can sense his humbleness. He says, "They could've been traumatized. It will be better for all if they take a day off once you return to your timeline."
"It will be better for Ruth if you tell her what happened to you," I replied.
"Right! I was on my way home when Avi and his minions ambushed my car. They beat me several times until I mentioned your house. They took me along to prove my words and that's when I called on the phone."
"And you told me that Afvshaganifs is your friend?"
"Yes, he can still be my friend once he redeems himself. But for real, I don't want to die twice. Once is enough. Death is too painful if you're fighting for nothing."
"In actuality, we only die once. But once you can die twice, fear shall fear you similar to this scumbag." I partially tapped my sole on the sleeping captain's shoulder. "You brought them here which saves the day although it didn't save our blood. I hope you know now that this house isn't ordinary."
"Exciting! I heard from my grannies that this house is the safest place in Plandreas."
"Yes, because this house... is like a spellbook itself." I sip some chocolate and clack the spoon on the cup thrice, the lights blacked out for a blink and after that, the mess and blood stains on the floor and on our clothes are gone and groomed. "Far better than your toys."
"That's magic, not technology."
"Enough with the chit chat." I placed the cup on the table and tapped the captain's cheeks to wake him up. He looks around, tries to shake off the bind on his hands behind, and then yawns. "The table turns again, captain! Your ship looks creepier than my house but your pirates flee because of a witch? You're under my control now! All you have to do is to tell me everything you know about the history of werewolves!" I tread my slipper on his chest.
I'm impressed with his smug smirk as he looks at my leg and at me. "Sure. Whatever you say, lady. Besides, you never ceased to amaze me. I'm falling deeper for you— Ughl?"
"And you never cease to cringe me! I don't want to hear useless words from you lest you lose your tongue again!" I warned. Manjiro, Andrew and Ruth are avoiding my glance and clearing their throats—sinking me into my seat because of this awkward conversation!
Andrew suggests, "You could've asked granny respectfully if you're into her. And you could've told me first so I can help you how to approach her the right way—!"
"Shoosh! Are you tolerating this lewd!?" I scolded and he behaved. I remove my foot from Afvshaganifs' chest. "No more beating around the bush. I saw your spellbook. Now tell me why—"
"Why is your name listed on the contributors of the creation of the world of werewolves?" he continues my question.
"..." I crossed my legs and arms. "I was asking for your knowledge before. Why didn't you tell me the truth?"
"Because that is not the truth."
"What?"
"I will tell you everything with pleasure for you lady, but not like this. I demand a comfortable interrogation in exchange for my knowledge." Refraining from my irritation, I made him sit on a single chair like a puppet on my strings, still bound with enchast behind. He crosses his leg and says, "Much better."
"Now tell me the truth."
"You weren't one with the spell contributors but you will. We've created the partial parts of the world you proposed where it is safe to bring back the existence of werewolves, and the main idea is credited to you. Your time to complete your world is today. Of course, he couldn't kill his own son in the past.
"The other… What do you call this…? moon priestess, brainwashed the human race that werewolves are non-existent until the belief was passed on to generations."
"Okay. Then why did he take me here!?"
"He visited my ship again to report the situation, and for another favor. He made a decision in the past and he wanted you to tell him if such a decision resulted in a better future. He's expecting your call."
"... He wants me to pick up his mess? Afvsha-whatever, you're the only one who knows Haiban very well. Tell me everything you know about your friend."
"Uuuh, he was a lover boy."
I threatened him with my witchy fingers.
"I'm telling a useful fact. Haiban is the most powerful enchanter I've met. His only flaw was being born a werewolf. He purposely created a small world of werewolves to protect their breed but he failed. He lost his wife in the war. Ever since then, he desired to avenge her and all the silver wolves. Coincidentally, during the supermoon, the wolves' goddess appeared to him and prophesied her will. And that includes the silver wolves' role in exterminating the whole race if her children remain wicked and a threat to the human race.
"Haiban told me about his depression, but he had no other paths to cross except acceptance. He slowly accepts that silver wolves like him are living weapons of their goddess and that his wife's death is normal. You all know that Haiban cursed the murderer and carry the burden for decades. Haiban used his son to be the bearer's demise and to keep him away from those who wanted to use him as a weapon.
"He asked for my spell before he killed himself and lived again near the time of extermination. He brought you here in the future to fulfill your desire for the werewolves, the time when the wolves' goddess forsaken her children." He's combing his mustache and when he noticed that I noticed, he put his hand in the bind again.
"But you're making it hard for me to return."
"No, it was you who's making things more complicated."
"How dare...!" I throw my high heels on him and simply tilt his head to elude. "You're right. And now I understand my father-in-law more clearly. He could have just told me directly that he wanted me to save him from the moon's will."
"You're smart to recognize that in his complex mind."
"The real problem is the Moon Goddess who aligned her will with Haiban's vengeance. And the first problem that must be solved is Haiban's." I stood up and stretched my arms. "I'll still choose to go back. Haiban ruined this future and I'll lie if I say I didn't do the same. I cannot consider continuing what you've started. Most importantly, my future is there in the past," I declared.
I almost ended the interrogation when I thought about "One last thing, the werewolves are gone because of Haiban but the mages are gone because of you. What have you done?"
"I killed them, oh, but I can raise them from the dead when the time comes that I need an army."
"Why will you need an army?"
"Against someone who wants to use me to alter the universe."
"Seriously, are there people like that in this era? You should just make yourself useless so no one will use you."
"If you can change this future."
"..." I guess he's got his own problems too. This future is a mess.
We made a few preparations and refreshments such as bathing, changing clothes, eating, and napping. Afvshaganifs is still grounded under Andrew's interrogation. He made this day a day off for all personnel of my house to recover from the traumatic incident last night but Ruth chooses to stay here, not wearing the uniform. After a few hours, I made myself ready in front of the toy and pendulum.
I unleashed my spellbook and left it levitating in the air, then I extended my right hand to the pendulum, putting the telephone in front of my ear. An enchast forms in front of the clock and the spell starts to work. The hands of the clock are rotating backward and rapidly. The only solution to call a person from the past is similar to Lanasia's spell: possessing a vessel. The best vessel I could think of is the same eyes she used to watch over Hessuel since his awakening.
My perspective changed when I found the right body. Acro.
