Chapter 514: Chapter 514 - 508: Jing Jihan Swiftly Sends Him Out with the Door Panel...
Shi Su was not overly concerned with the Shi Family’s wealth inheritance issue. When she learned that Shi Wancheng had been arrested, she was lying in the hospital ward, holding her phone, watching the variety show competition she attended a few days ago, where her guest-assisted team had won first place.
After all, the turbulence in the Shi Family wasn’t an entertainment industry event, and only a few small media outlets were speculating about Shi Su’s so-called "not acting properly and possibly returning to inherit billions of wealth" topic. However, given the substantial marketing from more contestants’ companies in that show, Shi Su was just a guest assistant, and because she and her studio intentionally did not want to drag the Shi Family affairs into online discussions, the topic gradually got buried, with no one purposely discussing Shi Su’s background.
But many still believed that she had been on an upward trajectory in the industry these past two years, along with the strong backing of both the Shi Family and the Jing Family, she would definitely be a leading figure for at least the next ten years in the entertainment industry. They thought she would appear in many TV dramas and movies in the coming years and that Shi Su would undoubtedly be the leading actress, with no one overpowering her.
However, these matters did not cause any emotional fluctuations within Shi Su.
She missed the past when in that small house, she was in a sorry state, and Jing Jihan skeptically asked her, "Celebrity?"
He said she looked nothing like one.
Shi Su lay on the bed, and after finishing the show, picked up her phone and stared at Jing Jihan’s name on WeChat.
After worrying for so many days, biting her teeth and persevering several times, she just wanted to know when this man planned to contact her.
Shi Su had some old injuries on her neck from that car accident years ago when she fell off the bridge in Jiang City, although it didn’t have much effect. But whenever she experienced a harsh impact or was under tension, a slight carelessness would cause her neck to hurt for several days, making it hard for her to move.
This time, the car first collided with the barrier, and since she wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, she fell onto the windshield. In such a circumstance, the human body is inherently fragile; being able to grit one’s teeth and endure at that time was already a miracle. Later, when she and the car fell, it inevitably resulted in severe injuries, especially the neck injury which hurt so much that watching a program on her phone made her clench her teeth in agony and endure hard.
The doctor saw her intense desire to get out of bed, fearing she might unintentionally injure her neck again, and simply put on a cervical collar-like contraption. A large ring of instruments surrounded her neck, which made Shi Su have to walk sideways like a crab to get to the bathroom.
With difficulty, she endured until nightfall, just after Shi Yuan called to say that police cars went to the Shi Family residence and took several of the old servants away. It was unclear what they were investigating, but when Mr. Shi was sitting in a wheelchair and heard the commotion, he surprisingly opened his eyes, even though it was just a small slit. However, Mr. Shi had been trying hard to look out, probably because he already had some understanding of these matters.
Shi Lingkang wanted to contact her, but Shi Su did not answer the phone. She was so injured that she walked sideways even to the bathroom, with pain all over her body and unable to deal with these not-too-close nor distant relational issues left by the Shi Family.
For instance, she had rested enough in bed, temporarily alone in the ward, wanting to get out of bed to see outside. She struggled to the window to look out and saw that it was snowing again in the capital and heard car sounds downstairs from the hospital, trying to look down.
But that glance turned into trouble...
The cervical collar on her neck got stuck in the window.
The heart-wrenching pain almost made Shi Su cry out loud at the window momentarily. With great effort to endure the pain, she raised her hand to try to shift the collar back from the window, but every attempt to move aggravated her pain to the point that she nearly wanted to jump on the spot.
Help, help, help.
What to do?!
Her phone was still tossed on the bed; she hadn’t brought it along.
She couldn’t call for help or get someone to come help her!
Jun went down to the convenience store to buy something, but considering Jun’s habitually slow pace when buying, she was held there for at least twenty minutes before Jun returned to discover her.
Such twenty minutes could be fatal!
Shi Su diligently, gradually bent her waist, trying to tilt the position where the cervical collar was stuck at the window, hoping to shift direction. Yet, after trying for so long, her whole body screamed pain, her neck especially hurt that her nerves almost convulsed, still unable to come out from there.
"Hiss—"
"Ah..."
"Pain, pain, pain—"
"Oh no..."
"Hiss, hiss, hiss—"
When Jing Jihan entered the ward, what he saw was this scene.
Shi Su was bending her waist, sticking her butt out, twisting her body back and forth in front of the window, the huge cervical collar stuck in the window motionless. The woman was hissing and whimpering softly in pain and regret, and every time the pain became unbearable, her feet in hospital slippers randomly kicked the ground back and forth, her butt sticking out even more, as if an extra push would detach her from the contraption.
Lu Zhao was just about to enter, having first caught sight of the empty bed. Turning his gaze, he had just seen Shi Su’s struggling plight at the window when suddenly the door closed, blocking his view.
Lu Zhao, shut out by Jing Jihan via the door panel: "..."
Shi Su seemed to hear someone come in, thinking that Jun returned quickly for once, hurriedly reaching out her hand to wave behind her: "Jun, quick... quick... quick... help... I’m done for..."
She heard footsteps behind her, neither light nor heavy, Shi Su was so desperate she didn’t even focus on whether the footsteps sounded familiar, having no time to explain, just wishing to break free from the window immediately.
"Hurry up, Jun, I’m done for!" She was softly crying in place from the pain, almost jumping from it if not stuck by the contraption.
Then she felt a pair of hands coming over from behind, helping her gently lift the switch stuck beside the cervical collar, avoiding her neck injury precisely. The anticipated pain didn’t come, and what was stuck for several minutes earlier smoothly detached from the window.
Shi Su let out a long breath, quickly raising her hand to support the huge collar on her neck, instinctively turned to glance back.
The man wore a light gray coat, a black sweater underneath. Due to her sudden turn, the large collar was quite a hindrance on her neck, his hand lifted slightly avoiding the collar, and perhaps because of this lifting motion, the man’s long neck, sharp Adam’s apple, and cold angular jawline fell entirely into her sight.
Possibly because Shi Su’s suddenly stunned expression lasted too long, or because there was no third person in the quiet ward outside of them, Jing Jihan put down his hand, and with a low hoarse voice, half laughed and half teased: "Stunned?"
